So in the latest episode we were told that the reason mushrooms have the stigma of spreading rust is because mushroom keepers use(d) it on large rust areas to help lessen the rust in those areas - however I have two questions about this (if it's explained in the source material please also tell me, just mark it as a spoiler):

1. Why have no scientists realized that mushrooms help against rust, especially since this is a huge thing that affects the whole world as well as it's inhabitants to the point of most living beings having gone instinct

2. why didn't the mushroom keepers just tell everyone that mushrooms help against rust if science was
apparently too dumb to figure it out? I mean they obviously knew before the stigma around mushrooms even existed so there shouldn't have been a problem just telling the public as far as I can tell?

thanks for taking your time to read this:)

I haven’t read the LN, but I think the government is trying to hide this information front the public, there’s subtle hints that could be alluding to this, which could explain why misinformation is spreading so quickly and why the government is making out the mushroom people are painted out to be the bad guys automatically.

Scientists that found out where probably silenced if this were the case.

Most likely government is concealing this information and keeping the population in state of panic, because this disease gave them so much power and allowed to subjugate the population by fearmong, so they would never want to let it go.
Thank God nothing similar could have happened in real life, right? RIGHT?!

I think that summarizes them all. I haven't read the LN but there were several hints in the first two episodes supporting this view.

Clearly it's a government conspiracy.

Alternatively the show is just meant to be stupid and fun.

I mean, we all know that mushrooms are just fruiting bodies don't we, what exactly are these mushrooms fruiting from ;-)

1: It's probably being kept a secret for some reason.

2: Bisco tried to, but people don't listen to "terrorists".

thanks for all the replies, that makes a lot of sense, should've thought about that before posting this lol - still kind of insane how well they're able to keep it concealed though

Control the media, Stalin anyone who says anything against the narrative and eventually the people themselves will do most of the work for you.

1st,this is just my theory, the rumor that mushroom make rust make no scientist want research on them bc the observation of rust place have mushroom is enough

2nd,they litterally said the mushroom keeper are really bad at communication then latter on thay have the terrorist on their name

As many have said, its likely got to do with the government hiding stuff. And the mushroom keepers are regarded as terrorists so most would likely not even believe them, as was the case with Paw.

true, though they only got that reputation because they're spreading mushrooms so I thought they should've been able to tell people before mushrooms were considered bad - you know, educate the people on what mushrooms do

Well, its possible the government spread rumours before they had a chance, thus giving us Sabikui Bisco's world as we know it.
