I just wanted to point out how wrong the popular criticisms of Steins;Gate anime are in my honest & humble opinion. Feel free to disagree.

1. I will start with the most common problem that everyone have & that is the first half being boring, that even some fans believe for some reason. The first 12 episodes are the backbone of the series & it's not like they are absolutely filler. Each & every episode had importance & was necessary to the overall plot. Sure, there were some mundane moments but they were also necessary for building the world & all the characters before shit goes down. The reason why the second half is amazing & hits hard is because of the first half. Also the first half wasn't boring. Slow but not boring. A lot of things happen that should serve to increase your curiosity about the series. For the viewer to continue watching, to see all the mysteries revealed later on. This series is one of the most binge watch worthy series. They leave at so many cliffhangers as well. Everything that happens in the second half was intricately foreshadowed & explained in the first half.

2. I've seen people say that S;G has bad characters. Except Okabe & Kurisu, no one else matters. This mostly comes from those people who have watched a lot of anime & think all the characters here are the usual anime trope character. They are, sure, but that shouldn't matter(if it should matter then all the Monogatari characters should also be considered trash). What matters is how they contribute to the plot & if their characters develop throughout the series or not. Each & every character in S;G (excluding Nae) had importance to the overall plot & got decent character development. For just 24 episodes, everyone played their part in the series. I'd take a completely normal & relatable character having importance to the plot than a badass character who appears in any series just to look cool & is rather very shallow & hollow. The side cast is interesting in how they tie to Okabe himself. All the characters were revealed to be much more deeper in the second half than what people give them credit for. Offcourse they adapted only the true ending of the VN, so mostly the anime revolved around Okabe & Kurisu. That is why S;G 0 is there. Some lab members shine over there. Which brings me,

3. People thinking S;G 0 is irrelevant & trash. Yes, the execution could have been better, but it's way too important story to miss out. Also, it is in 0 where all the other lab members come together to show their friendship & dedication for Okabe. Mayuri, Daru & Suzuha are given far more importance & all three were great. The Hashida family was given importance and Mayuri & Okabe's relationship was more developed. People seem to hate on 0 because of no Kyouma is also wrong. Offcourse there will be no Kyouma. Hououin Kyouma died when he had to sacrifice Kurisu to save Mayuri. And then he became more depressed after he accidentally killed Kurisu. You expect that man to be the same mad scientist? Yeah, it's not going to be entertaining without him & that's why they had some fanservice & other funny moments with Leskinen & Maho to fill in the absence of the usual humour of Okabe's chuunibyou nonsense & his funny interactions with real Kurisu. It becomes all the more satisfying when Kyouma finally returns towards the end of 0 after seeing him depressed throughout the series.
0 may be a downgrade but it was never supposed to be superior than the original either. It's a spin-off side story, infact a backstory, that connects with the ending of the main series. Yes, pacing issues are there, yes fight scenes are not that great, yes some inconsistencies are present in the middle of the series, but what should matter the most, is the story & the characters. It's a very important, 100% canon side story. It's not supposed to be a 10/10 masterpiece, rather a side series that compliments the original series & explain some important plot points from the main story. And it served it's role quite well, despite not being a complete adaptation of it's VN counterpart.

4. People saying Okabe is dumb is also wrong. They think since Okabe invented time travel through a microwave, so it's stupid. What I like is how realistic it is. Not that a microwave making miniature black holes with a CRT TV is realistic (it's SciFi), but an accidental discovery. Okabe was experimenting with the microwave & he accidentally created the time machine. There are so many important scientific discoveries in real world which are infact accidental. Even the first ever antibiotic(Penicillin) was an accidental discovery by Alexander Fleming. Also, the phonewave is inspired by the Tachyonic antitelephone, which is a real life hypothetical device in theoretical physics. Why Okabe making some sort of time machine accidentally is stupid in a SciFi story? Also, Okabe is not dumb at all. He is smart & most importantly, he is practical. He may blabber chunni nonsense, but he easily captures the essence of a situation & plans ahead & acts on his plans & doesn't stay loose on the details. He may not be a genius like Kurisu, Maho or even Daru but he is far from being dumb & stupid. At first he may seem like your typical chuunibyou character but later on we find that Hououin Kyouma was an act & he made the lab because he is socially awkward & he wanted to make friends & he did the mad scientist act to cheer a depressed Mayuri. Also Mayuri is more than just an airhead childhood pal of Okabe. She is literally the bond that keeps all the lab members together. She is also the most socially skilled & emotionally stable among other lab members. She also plays a huge role in how they reach Steins;Gate worldline, which makes her more important than even Kurisu to the plot of the series & not a useless character.

These are some of the most popular criticisms that S;G gets most of the time that annoys me. Come with some other actual criticisms of the series( for example Reading Steiner unexplained). I may have missed some other common criticisms. But those above that I see most of the time are wrong opinions that a lot of people seemed to criticize Steins;Gate with. I want to make it clear that I understand Steins;Gate series will not be perfect for everyone. But for what steins gate gets criticised MOST OF THE TIME that I see in MAL, they are wrong to me. Just my opinion.

Yes the 12 episodes where important but I would be lying if said that they where not boring compared to the second part I I even dropped this show after 6 ep and came back to it 5 months later and I wasn't disappointed.
That's my only criticism the other one's are pretty stupid.

Unpopular opinion but i enjoyed the earlier episodes. It was probably because the banter between the cast was quite unique and okabes charisma kept me entertained

The only criticisms I agree with is the humor that falls flat and the somewhat uninteresting side characters. Unlike others, the first half of the show didn’t bother me at all, but I can see how others might get a bit bored.

1. I dont think that the first half is boring, it just focuses on other aspects of the story and personally i liked it very much and dont want to devide steinsgate into 2 parts, because everything belongs together and is equal good. Many anime watchers are way too focused on plot nowadays, and dont care for the dynamic between characters and the build up.
I am pretty sure that I binged the first half

2. The Characters are definetely not bad, i like most of the cast but its true that Okabe and Makisu stand out, obviously because theyre the main characters. Could be less females for me, i didnt like some of them and didnt remembered some of them when i watched S;G 0

3. I liked it, it was Something different and had a completely different atmosphere but the story was still interesting, even though it was a little too constructed.

4. Yess, Okabe is not a Genius i guess but he is pretty clever and practical like you said. The time machine was more an accident then planned obviously, and since you cant build one in rl its scifi explanation and thats all we need.
I have seen people who wanted to know how the time machine works like bruh they cant explain except saying its scifi shit ^^

Steins gate isnt one of my favourite Shows but its very good and i liked it :)

The main criticism I've heard about steins gate is that the first half is boring which I think isn't true at all, I think it was really good for a build up and did a good job in making the audience curious by raising questions. The only problem I did have with steins gate was that I couldn't understand the first episode at all but I think I might like it a lot now especially since I've finish steins gate and I've grown quite fond of non linear episodes

The first half being boring is an understandable thing it’s pretty slow so that critique is merited even if those episodes are important

My main problem with the show is that Okabe gropes Luka (a CHILD) and only receives a slap on the wrist. He’s still portrayed as a good dude despite molesting a child.

Not to mention how Mayuri forces Luka into wearing a costume, which meant she had to forcefully undress Luka. Luka is constantly disrespected and even sexually assaulted and nobody acts like that’s a bad thing. The fact that nobody seems to care that they’re traumatizing Luka makes the characters irredeemably horrible people to me, therefore I don’t care if they succeed or not.

Wtf am I seeing, who cares about molesting a child when you are suffering a life crisis and it's matter of life and death.
Not to mention that child likes okabe too.

1. the entire show was boring, not just the first half. The foreshadowing was so extraordinarily blatant that my experience of it became just waiting for what I knew was going to happen to actually happen.

2. I haven't seen monogatari yet, but if the characters are as one note and annoying as the ones in steins;gate; they're also trash.

3. Didn't watch 0 since I hated the OG

4. No opinion

The worst part is that it's so obviously based off of a VN and I'd probably have enjoyed the story more if I had played it instead of watching. (I didn't know it was a VN before watching it.)

I can’t believe I’m actually seeing someone say that child molestation is alright in the context of a life or death situation. On top of that, saying that it’s only forceful if they resist. What a disgusting take.

Personally, the only thing I've seen people criticize about s;g is the first 10 or so episodes. Having s;g in my top 3 fav anime I understand their point of view. The problem with the first half is that it's slow paced and really confusing so that's why it may not be suitable to a lot of people. After all it's because those episodes are the onset of the plot and the action. Without them I don't think the second half would be as memorable and emotional as it is now. Yeah it's pretty hard to get past the first half but if you manage to do it probably you will really enjoy the rest

I always check people's lists when they have very different opinions, usually makes sense and it's just personal preference, but how the hell can you justify the ratings you've given, is your list made by rng every time you watch a show??

I disagree with every complain listed, the first half set the ground for the second half, it was extremely important to have that first half for us to fall in love with the characters. The second criticism about the characters may be the only arguable one and still it isn't true, at least in my case I only found Faeris to be a bit annoying but I don't think she's even that bad. The third complain about S;G 0, I personally loved S;G 0, it is not as nearly as good as the original but it is still really good and it is optional for people to watch it. And finally about Okabe, tf you mean dumb, I don't even have an answer to that, he's a great main character.

I watched and enjoyed the anime, my only problem with it was the CHEESY romance and love triangles that the whole story revolved around. It's like the author had a cool time traveling concept but didn't know how to apply it so he just thought "Oh...I know! Romance! That's a good reason to travel in time, right?" While a lot of people enjoyed this and made ship wars and all. I personally think it's ridiculous and it could've been better. I think the dystopian future thing is an enough reason, if the author expanded on that somehow and we saw countries fighting about who's gonna make a time machine first and the team trying to stop them and save the future of humanity, and if we get a glimpse of what that future is as well, that would've been way better for my personal taste. I think the romance wasted a good idea with some good characters who had potential, especially Okabe.

Good point! That's something I didn't think of when I first watched it because I was young I guess. Now I'm an adult and I'm starting to notice these things in anime. Literally all anime has pedophilia and sexual harassment being played off as a joke. No wonder people who don't watch anime think it's for incels, they have a point with that. Mangakas can be pedophiles and perverts projecting their twisted ideas in their works and justifying it as fiction. Knowing well enough that they'll always be people defending that and even clapping for it because they identify with it. And that's something that's making me reconsider watching anime. It seems it isn't worth my time anymore because of how perverted, generic, predictable, and repetitive it can be.

Ofcourse there are exceptions, but unfortunately they're the minority and the need to dig really deep to find them. The terrible things are what becomes mainstream.

Personally I love Steins;Gate (my best anime), the 1st half was indeed slow but it was necessary for the buildup but the reason I absolutely love Steins;Gate is because of the 2nd half which was amazing.

I hate Steins;Gate 0 though, that one was fucking garbage and I already explained my reasons for disliking that shit plenty of times around here so I won't explain it again. That being said, it did had some really good episodes (episode 8 & 19 are awesome) but it also had some shitty episodes which completely killed Steins;Gate 0 for me (episode 17 & 18 was utter garbage) and Kagari was simply the worst character in the show, she literally ruined the anime and Leskinen was boring and Judy Reyes didn't even exist, so many things went wrong with Steins;Gate 0.

My reasons for disliking Steins;Gate 0 is way more than that but I don't feel like writting a wall of text about it.

this is absurd, you are making a big thing out of this,
In your school days have you never seen boys groping each other just for joke sake. Cause I have. Here ruka was female but okabe didn't know

Ruka was a "she" at that point and yeah, she was totally into it, that was probably one of her many fantasies with Okabe.

I mean yes I absolutely hate this scene too but, one Okabe did it in the moment. If anything it’s close to a stupid realistic decision, BUT it’s blown over and nothing is really said. People make stupid mistakes like that in the moment especially if they might be socially awkward like Okabe. Now the whole Mayuri thing really ain’t bad at all, it’s really exaggerated to say Sexually assaulted lmao. You don’t even know exactly what happens in there and you could assume the worst but I assume Mayuri just has to start. This isn’t even that bad compared to the shit I’ve seen out there but truthfully I love this show so I’m still really annoyed at the Luka scene and wish to god it just could be removed.

1) disagree, it not boring for me
2) 50/50 characters are good, but not that awesome. Also I hate it's visual novel route format character (every girl having attachment to mc). Could use more male character to balance the no of females
3) disagree, steins gate 0 is as good as steins gate (u are one of those people who think steins gate 0 is bad...lol)
4) okabe and mayuri is a great character. Okabe obviously have some really really engaging phenomenal dialogue. But I not gone do iq test for fictional character, that's stupid. Mayuri was great in steins gate 0 and was a important and necessary character. But am not gone judge her by power level...lol

1. the entire show was boring, not just the first half.

Disclaimer: Just because I hate the show you like doesn't mean I'm attacking you personally.

Okay munou na nana

Agree to disagree. I don't care if you can't understand why I like a show. I'm not a petulant child like you.

1. The first half of Steins;gate was so long and calm compared to the second half, that when the tone shift actually happened I had to take a break. Not a complaint, both halfs were entertaining in they're own way.

2. Steins;gate characters are mid. I didn't watch it for the characters but for the story. The only fun characters were Okabe and Kurisu. Having relevance to the plot doesn't make a character good. If thats the case then every plot device is a amazing character as well. The character development was mid too since the anime was mostly focusing on Okabe and Kurisu, and the character development the other characters got was just annoying.

3. Steins;gate 0 is actually really good imo and I don't understand the hate. Anyone who calls it "irrelevant" or "waste of time" should just not watch it. Most of the time I disprove of not using show but don't tell, but in this case I approve. The reason being since people would say steins;gate had a "bad ending" and Okabe coming giving a message to his past self was an asspull.

Its also interesting to see an alternate timeline.
I gave up on character of the week since it takes too much thinking. I'll just change my forum pfp to whoever I want every week lol.

Just finished and I thought the whole show was good. The second half was just a little better than the first half (which was already good). A solid 8/10.
Changed my mind and now is a 9. The more I think the better it gets.

S;G0 was complete trash the animation was trash and the storyline was to some extend boring except for the last 6 to 7 episodes but before that it was like me watching a high school boring anime with nothing but empty feelings

Just my opinion.
yep that moment when it felt like Hououin Kyouma returns it made me have the biggest smile in my whole anime history I was like damn I love it .I loved Steins gate zero.

weak critisms, also you know a show is legendary when the primary reason for hating is it being boring, cuz there aren't lots of other things that are bad

SG0 is pretty mid, I was expecting more interesting twists and turns but instead they tried turning it into some slow psychological show with very few interesting moments.

The characters are fantastic, I love every member of the cast. I think they’re highly entertaining.

The beginning of SG is not really that uninteresting to me, but that could be because I really like SoL shows and rarely watch action

I haven't watched it, but for anime in general if the first part is boring it is boring. Even if necessary for later eps, it's still 4 hours worth of boring content you got to get threw. Lot's of people would probably drop it if i didn't pick up so hard like the show did.

I can’t believe I’m actually seeing someone say that child molestation is alright in the context of a life or death situation. On top of that, saying that it’s only forceful if they resist. What a disgusting take.
this is absurd, you are making a big thing out of this,
In your school days have you never seen boys groping each other just for joke sake. Cause I have. Here ruka was female but okabe didn't know
On the top of that, why didn't luka resist when he was stripped? Did he cry after that or what? Obviously he didn't care

Oh my christ you are a disgusting person. You are the reason anime continues to have characters like Daru who are openly pedophilic and make sexual innuendos about their own daughters ruining otherwise excellent shows. You are also the reason anime fans have a reputation as creeps, because you are a pathetic, perverted creep proving them right.

S;G0 would be good if Daru wasn’t a disgusting pedophile who sexualizes his own daughter and the show actually spent time on Okabe/Kurisu’s relationship

Ruka was a "she" at that point and yeah, she was totally into it, that was probably one of her many fantasies with Okabe.

holy shit, i pray for the women in your life you monster.
