Disastrous Life of Saiki K is the first that comes to mind, and it has brilliant comedy. The main character himself is transgender (born a girl canonically). The show definitely has 'gay vibes' AKA very much male appreciation of each other. There is lots of questioning of sexuality and there are a lot of characters where it's not clear what their orientation is. I think you should give it a shot :)

Asagao to Kase-san - Haven't watched this myself, but it looks interesting.

Adachi and Shimamura - Same as above, haven't watched it, but looks interesting.

Bloom Into You - The best lesbian anime I've seen. Cute, sweet, and has many kissing scene.

Otherside Picnic - The "gay" aspect is not the main selling point, but imma still mention it here.

Candy Boy is about two twin sisters that love each other, of course if you’re not into incest that might not be something you want to check out

(before i give suggestions, i feel i should say that i am a lesbian)
revolutionary girl utena is what comes to mind first. utena and anthy canonically have feeling for each other + there's a romantic sideplot with a side character who just happens to be a lesbian
riddle story of devil was a short anime that i really enjoyed, the whole plot surrounds around a class of assassins trying to kill one girl but the protag (also a girl) has a crush on her and decides to protect her
kill la kill has a lot of sapphic undertones, especially between ryuko and mako. the two even go on a date at a point in the series
new game is a really cute slice of life series that has such strong sapphic relationships between the characters that i'm surprised its not labeled as such
my next life as a villainess: all routes lead to doom has a very clear bisexual protag, with a harem of both genders
and while i haven't watched it yet, wandering child apparently has good lgbt representation as a whole

PLEASE don’t watch Dramatical Murder. The visual novel was just recently translated and its so much better in every single way.

I’d say try Given or Sarazanmai for some more positive representation.

MAL has a strange unbalance in tagging: all anime tagged Yuri are all Rx (hentai) rated, but not all Yaoi. So some of them have seriously good plot and do not focus on the sex and domination game part. R+ means "adult ecchi" grade, like Highschool DxD & Co. No genitals. Here are two very gay yaoi anime I enjoyed as hetero guy, for the story:

https://myanimelist.net/anime/2238/Fuyu_no_Semi
Romeo & Julia story set in 19th century civil war Japan, Tom Cruise's "Last Saumurai" is the same era

https://myanimelist.net/anime/719/Ai_no_Kusabi
Dystopian Sci-Fi and very early yaoi (1992) which has a domination scenario, but plays it far more psychologically and politically than sexually

There are older ones which are equally good takes. If you liked this couple main focused romance, you might also like ...

https://myanimelist.net/anime/36214/Asagao_to_Kase-san

I'll leaving out anime more complex shows like Utena, Maria-sama ga Miteru etc. which have multiple couples and/or more complex stories than a romance between two people. There are many recommendations for those in this thread anyway.

And: Anything Ikuhara ever made is mandatory. Penguindrum is excellent but hasn't the strong homosexual themes of those here:

As a fellow gay I feel that. Others have mentioned it but Yuri On Ice is obviously the big one. Given is apparently good though I haven't seen it yet. I really enjoyed Doukyuusei which I watched fairly recently. Love Stage is kinda ugly but is on the better side story-wise.

As for girls, Utena and Yuri Kuma Arashi are both hits. Kill La Kill as mentioned above has some gay vibes too.

Definitely a miss... not only did they strip out all the gay, it's also just really bad. Plus the game deffs falls under the "toxic" category. Almost every sex scene is uh... to put it nicely, very forced.

A few BL wholesome shows:

Given and Given Movie

Doukyuusei

Umibe no Etranger

I like the first two more and I'd start with them.

I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

Hear me out... it's still shounen-ai but 'Sasaki To Miyano' is very VERY good, it's a manga tho so idk if you're into that but it's getting an anime adaptation soon! It's so fluffy & wholesome, which is why I love it so much, it really erases all the tropes & fetishes that usually come with BL, and it's very realistic & refreshing. I really recommend it, it's definitely my favorite LGBTQ manga ^^

- Another one is 'Moriarty the Patriot', the whole cast is just HOT males so it's bound to have SOME gay undertones, but the relationship between the main protagonist & antagonist is what really gets me, their sexual tension is so palpable lol, and /kinda spoiler/ but they're basically canon in the manga & have canon feelings for each other too. Oh and there's also a CANON trans male in the supporting cast who actually plays a BIG part in the anime, you'll love him trust me. Also the plot is just SOOO good you NEED to watch it.

- And 'Kabukicho Sherlock' is probably the gayest & most underrated anime I've watched before lol. It has a lot of LGBTQ characters & a few of the supporting cast is trans, although there are some questionable moments with them, so it's not really the best for true representation (to be expected from Japan tho). But the whole anime is riddled with heavily implied homoerotic undertones especially between the 2 MC's (they're so gay for each other XD), and they're actually canonically in love in the anime, tho it's supposed to be platonic love at first, but by the end of the anime it's clearly meant to be more than platonic. umm yeah they're basically endgame so I love it haha <3

- Also 'Appare Ranman' which is a really good racing anime, ironically has a lot of bromance & homoerotic undertones between the 2 MC's & with the MC and a supporting character as well, which actually pleasantly surprised me. Also the MC is clearly supposed to be queer-coded, & he's just so much fun to watch I really love him.

- 'The Case Files of Richard Jeweler' is really good & it tackles LGBTQ issues very well, they even have a whole episode about a lesbian woman who struggles w/ her sexuality & eventually learns to love and embrace who she is & it's so beautiful. There's also a canon asexual/aromantic girl in the supporting cast (I love herr). The 2 MC's also share a very deep bromance filled relationship (I could watch them all day), I'm pretty sure they were meant to have romantic feelings for each other, or at least it's implied they do in the manga/light novels. Yea it's good stuff!

- Lastly 'Wonder Egg Priority' dips its toes into some LGBTQ themes, & it lowkey says TRANS RIGHTS in one episode too, although the anime itself is straight-up depressing sometimes, but it's really good nonetheless.

~Hope you enjoy! :)

+1 Akuma no Riddle
+1 Asagao to Kase-san
+1 Doukyuusei
+1 Liz to Aoi Tori
+1 Revolutionary Girl Utena and everything Ikuhara
+1 Yuri on Ice
+1 Kill la Kill and New Game I guess (edit: if we're adding in these types of shows then I propose IDOLiSH7. Two of the characters in the second season are promoted in-universe as a married couple and there's plenty of gay undertones between everyone else.)

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned No.6 yet

Also shouldn't this be in the recommendations board lol

"I think I wanted to attack something. Like betraying people or hurting people. And, well, it's not exactly nice, but hurting the readers too... In all honestly, I feel that's what I really wanted to do. For me, as a reader, when I think, "this manga will remain in my heart," it means, for example, it phenomenally hurt me: It's those kinds of experiences I'm after." - Pajime Hisayama (My favourite hurting author).

This. The thought of someone watching it instead of the original novel gives me physical pain lol but although it was a bland and uninspiring adaptation, at least they put some effort into it, in my opinion. I wouldn't say it was as horrible as Togainu no Chi adaptation, that thing was a nonsensical mess, if I ever saw one. Nothing happening there made any sense whatsoever, so convoluted.

Wandering son its abt trans girl and a trans boy. though they skiped the first part in the manga i still found it as a great representation that rarely seen in anime at all.
If you read manga there is:
shimanami no tasogare- lgbt+ in general
bokura no hentai- crossdressing, transgenders and gender as a whole, homosexuality, bisexuality

Surely non-yuri/yaoi LGBTQ media would just be BTQ media?
Well I for one already loved Lain.

What do you mean oversexualized and toxic? Yuri is the purest love to ever exist. Plus, why don't just read manga, you have more variety there you idiot
