Hear me out... it's still shounen-ai but 'Sasaki To Miyano' is very VERY good, it's a manga tho so idk if you're into that but it's getting an anime adaptation soon! It's so fluffy & wholesome, which is why I love it so much, it really erases all the tropes & fetishes that usually come with BL, and it's very realistic & refreshing. I really recommend it, it's definitely my favorite LGBTQ manga ^^
- Another one is 'Moriarty the Patriot', the whole cast is just HOT males so it's bound to have SOME gay undertones, but the relationship between the main protagonist & antagonist is what really gets me, their sexual tension is so palpable lol, and /kinda spoiler/ but they're basically canon in the manga & have canon feelings for each other too. Oh and there's also a CANON trans male in the supporting cast who actually plays a BIG part in the anime, you'll love him trust me. Also the plot is just SOOO good you NEED to watch it.
- And 'Kabukicho Sherlock' is probably the gayest & most underrated anime I've watched before lol. It has a lot of LGBTQ characters & a few of the supporting cast is trans, although there are some questionable moments with them, so it's not really the best for true representation (to be expected from Japan tho). But the whole anime is riddled with heavily implied homoerotic undertones especially between the 2 MC's (they're so gay for each other XD), and they're actually canonically in love in the anime, tho it's supposed to be platonic love at first, but by the end of the anime it's clearly meant to be more than platonic. umm yeah they're basically endgame so I love it haha <3
- Also 'Appare Ranman' which is a really good racing anime, ironically has a lot of bromance & homoerotic undertones between the 2 MC's & with the MC and a supporting character as well, which actually pleasantly surprised me. Also the MC is clearly supposed to be queer-coded, & he's just so much fun to watch I really love him.
- 'The Case Files of Richard Jeweler' is really good & it tackles LGBTQ issues very well, they even have a whole episode about a lesbian woman who struggles w/ her sexuality & eventually learns to love and embrace who she is & it's so beautiful. There's also a canon asexual/aromantic girl in the supporting cast (I love herr). The 2 MC's also share a very deep bromance filled relationship (I could watch them all day), I'm pretty sure they were meant to have romantic feelings for each other, or at least it's implied they do in the manga/light novels. Yea it's good stuff!
- Lastly 'Wonder Egg Priority' dips its toes into some LGBTQ themes, & it lowkey says TRANS RIGHTS in one episode too, although the anime itself is straight-up depressing sometimes, but it's really good nonetheless.
~Hope you enjoy! :) |
