| Nah it's Gabi Mikasa comes second though . I would say that both are overhated . Mikasa is easily the worst out of the EMA trio but she's still pretty good IMO . |

You perfectly summed up Mikasa as a character. I personally like to say that she is just a hollow character. Cool appearance, superhuman power, but nothing more than that. While putting it that way is correct, it is still general, that's why being more detailed - just as you were in your comparison between Mikasa and Zofia - can show Mikasa's "holowness" even more clearly. Indeed. Zofia was also a talented person and had cool design as a character, but she didn't have as much luck as Mikasa to be main character's simp and thus become somebody pretty much invincible. |

| damn forum boards on MAL are always full of mikasa hate. Sad. Mikasa is overhated, but she is def not the most hated lmao. I'm wondering if any manga readers actually still think she's one dimensional? Cause if so... uhm anyways. Mikasa is not the resident badass like levi is. She is FAR from a mary sue. She has legitimate flaws and makes mistakes, mistakes that actually are really important. And she grows from them. Yes she is strong, yes she is op, but there is more to that. (also some of yall forget that being an introvert is a real life thing and completely makes sense given her history). It's sad to hate a character that actually embodies some of the more important themes of aot (like how eren embodies the strive for freedom) nakkki said: Ah. Yes. | Not at all. Gabi is definitely the by far most hated character from Aot. Floch has gotten a lot of hate as well. And I completely disagree with everyone shitting on her character. Mikasa is a very good character. She is very badass. She is cute as hell. She has good character development in the trost arc and also has amazing development much later in the manga. She has several really good decision-making scenes. The best one being when she gave up on Armin in episode 55 after Hanges speech (which is a very overlooked and underrated scene). That moment is honestly amazing and I would consider that as incredible character writing. I like that she seem to have a clear "priority list" when it comes to people she care about (something that makes her feel more human and relatable). This is shown in episode 36 when she tries to kill Ymir without hesitating when trying to save Eren, but when Historia protects Ymir she hesitates and gives Historia the option of choosing a side before deciding what to do with her. Mikasa also has good character writing related to her backstory. The fact that she basically got so traumatized by her parents death that she changed personality and stopped being a "cheerful and happy" girl, but became a much more silent and introverted character is imo solid character writing. Last but not least, Mikasa has an amazing voice actor. |

| for the "mikasa is a bad character with no development blah blah blah" people: How mikasa changed from s1-s3 (simplified version): In season 1, Mikasa's world was armin and eren. and she wouldn't hesitate to risk other lives, including her own for them. In s1 ep5, when Mikasa thought eren died, she initially gave up, but then decided to hold onto her pride. She stood up and decided to fight- she wasn't relying and being completely dependent on Eren. She took what Eren taught her. Another important moment was when Mikasa misunderstood Eren's reason for being happy for knowing how to balance on the wire things during training. Her not understanding eren is a flaw, and a very important one (continues in manga spoilers). Flaws point to a more nuanced, 3d character. Now the after: in season 3, Mikasa actively states that she trusts armin and eren, and does not step in even when their lives are in danger. This is not like before, when she rushes in head first to try to save them herself. Later, Floch says that "mikasa gave up in the end". This is a very underrated moment. In season 1, Mikasa would not have given up on armin. But now, her world doesn't just consist of eren and armin, but also of the scouts and humanity as a whole. Her priorities and perspective changes. CHANGES, it's called DEVELOPMENT. This is perhaps in direct contrast to eren, who goes from wanting to save all of humanity to prioritizing his friends and people. Isayama says himself that Mikasa expresses herself through facial expressions and actions (like introverts often do). She is not outspoken like eren, she does not go through extremely obvious internal dilemmas like Armin, she did not have a fake personality and then a specific character arc where her entire persona changed (cough Historia cough). So her development is more subtle. It's overlooked. But it's there. Anime s4: Mikasa completely rejects Louise, someone who strove to be her and wanted to blindly stay by Mikasa's side but also misunderstanding her (mikasa). Reminds you of someone, hm? There's not much yet, but her dilemma arising from Eren's actions, and her continuing misunderstanding of him, is definitely being set up. Perhaps Mikasa is not as complex as eren reiner zeke erwin, etc. But she definitely is relatively well written and has development. also, WIT lowkey did manga mikasa dirty btw. | Nah, Gabi is most hated character in AOT, Mikasa is just overrated for never getting any development. If she was the most hated character there was no way he wouldn't be the 3 most popular characters in AOT with Eren and Levi. |
