How i rate a anime is by Oppai, Character designs, Animation, sounds, and how i enjoy the anime. i usually give anime an 8 because the anime doesnt have oppai in it. i'm a visual watcher. i enjoy looking anime that have two cool looking people are killing each other or an event is happening with a cool animation sequence. idc if theres a plot, as long theres no romance in it. do you watch it like this and what do you think?

How much I enjoyed it. Keyword is "I".

Even though I haven't rated any anime yet, I plan to later.
Anime like Highschool DxD get an extra star for plot.

Well, various people watch anime for various reasons *shrug*
You're good as long as there is oppai and cool animation in it without really caring about the story, that's uhh cool.

As for me, I'm good as long as there is bromance in my anime, I care about characters, their interactions and development the most, also the plot, then the sound/music and art/animation.

I'll just answer the question in the title.
Since I don't read reviews or summaries of the anime I watch, I never know beforehand if character and plot is good or not. So I guess one could say "yes, I do"
I think romance can be nice sometimes. But oppai =/= romance.

Depends on animu.
If I like the story and character development, I'll watch it mainly for them.
If the plot/char development is shit, but the show isn't boring or terrible enough for me to drop it, I'll watch it for tits, lolis and so on.
Why don't watch anime for both though?

I watch based on the story's startpoint. Characters are not a factor, as long as they do what they were created for.

The holy saint character development is the biggest non-issue in watching a movie, show, reading a book whatever. People here are just happy they can throw a litterature concept anywhere and look intelligent or cool. (the exact same problem with the word "deconstruction")

It takes an anime with really great visuals to get my attention.

Space Dandy is an example of a show that's visually beautiful, while its story isn't too impressive because of its freeform nature.

Yep. I go in and watch it all the way through with exceptions being whether I place it on hold or in the very rare case, drop it (in other words, only Elfen Lied).

I judge anime as a whole. You can identify plot and characters but you cannot separate them. It's like the soul and the body in Aristotle. I judge by how they interact with one another.

I usually give the plot the priority, as well as the characters and their development, but lately I find myself giving more importance on whether the anime itself gives me some feelings. I've recently finished watching Mirai Nikki Another: World, and despite it isn't a masterpiece and sometimes questionable, the love story between Yuno and Arata gave me a lot of emotions.
So to sum up I'd say that the plot is really important for me, but can be overlooked if iy triggers my emotions

I usually watch the highly rated series even if I find them garbage just so I can say that they are garbage.

There were occasions that I knew that the anime was not good, but I enjoyed it. Not "so bad it's good" kind of anime(& honestly, so far I have not found any anime like that). It's simply because even though the foundations of the anime(writing, character development, etc.) were not strong enough, I enjoyed the little unimportant things that really pleased my personal preference. For example, Heroic Legend of Arslan. The characters were not developed at all, the plot was crumbling on the halfway of the season, plot conveniences all over the place, etc. But, it's so enjoyable because of the epic-movie vibe of it, the setting of it, & how some of the action scenes were actually really good so I kept watching only for those few action scenes. Another examples: F/S N UBW, Ga-Rei Zero, Gatchaman Crowds, Howl's Moving Castle, Valvrave season 1, & many more actually.

I see. You're the kind that feel some obligation to finish an anime after you start watching it. Not my thing, but I respect that.

Well, first and foremost, enjoyment. I can watch a show with a terrible plot and no character development whatsoever until a point where it's still enjoyable. However, once that too fades away, so does my interest in watching the anime and so I'll either drop it out, put it on-hold or force myself to get rid of it.

I see. I agree with you, but your concern about people putting character development above all probably is just your imagination. I do not see any people like that, in fact what I see so often is people confusing character development with characterization.

Never give a shit about character development. As long as I think I can enjoy it then yes,I will watch it.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

So you mean it has more of an episodic type of storytelling? Just like Cowboy Bebop then.

What do you enjoy out of anime specifically though? Ecchi scene? Mary Sue protagonist? Or something else?

EDIT: Adding question.

It really depends on the anime and the mood it creates for me. But most of the time I'll end an anime I watch in order to have an opinion upon it. For example I dropped DRRR 4 eps before ending because it did't make me excited anymore and on the other hand I watched all of Bleach without passing the fillers. It's all on the mood and if you enjoy the anime.

Character development and story is overrated, real men rate based on how much cancer the show gave them.

After enjoyment, characters and plot are by far the most important things in anime/movies/tv series. So if they are bad it heavily affects enjoyment. If enjoyment is affected it becames hard to watch it. And if it becames hard to watch then droping is the most probable. But i still give them a try since could exist some redeeming factors.

If I came in knowing that the anime had bad characters or plot, but pretty art, animation and great soundtrack. I would continue watching.

I rate on basicly everything the anime has to offer
