It's the platforms. You can't do much with platforms when you're designing your world as a parody of a human city. It's pretty bizarre too. Is there an explanation for why the opening area is on a tiny island really high above the rest of the city and has traffic? I have a link here that skips to that.

A few seconds later, Mario jumps down twenty stories without taking damage. What's up with that?

Ironically, the game starts to look more appealing once they go to a world that isn't human, the Sand Kingdom.

That hub world also has boring platforms, though. It starts to look better a few minutes later when they actually begin playing a level in Sand Kingdom.

I don't understand the 3D Mario games' focus on hub worlds. In the old games, the hubs were, thankfully, just simplistic maps and the focus was entirely on platforming levels.

That's just a few levels that they showed, i'm pretty sure in 4 months it will be filled with enjoyable platforming levels of other worlds and such. And it's been 7 years since the last 3D Mario game, i really can't fucking wait to play it. I wanted Super Mario Galaxy 3 tho...

You don't take fall damage because you have 3 hit points as a base which doesn't permanently upgrade, and coins don't restore your health.

I think the game is overhyped for sure, but it still looks pretty fun.

This song is probably better than the entire game lol.

Yeah well remember the last time a company's mascot visited the big city and it felt out of place?

Well, Sonic 3-D games suck in general. Mario, on the other hand, had amazing sandbox titles - namely 64 and Sunshine. And if Ninty bring back the charm from those games into Odyssey then I really don't expect it to fail.

Lol
Haven't watched anything but no falling damage is something you put to favour exploration.
It's also called Odyssey because mario likely goes to a different place, or a world, kind of like that guy from that book, learns things, and probably has players wonder about going back home to their childish mario places as he goes through hub worlds, if the title is of any indication.

I thought it looked lame too but *shrug* what do I know? Certainly, Nintendo could never screw up as badly as sega did with the sonic franchise. I'm not all too worried.
