Is "mainstream" anime bad?

Anyway... I am just happy for the first time in years I am going to be able to buy merch for an anime I actually liked. I thought Free was alright but it wasn't something I was going to buy stuff for. I do buy stuff for Yugioh and Evangelion. But I am mostly a DVD buyer... and manga buyer. I just really like that I can have more shirts and stuff... you know? It is nice.

I just buy what I love. If I love it, I buy it. I own things like Sensitive Pornograph. Who owns porn? Me. I own porn. lol. I actually own a lot of hentai on my shelves.

Most of what I like just, doesn't get much of anything other than the manga and the anime made for it. I think it is because I like a lot of niche things. Princess tutu. I also like a lot of old things.. like Rose of Versailles. Sadly I can't even complete Oniisama e... the third DVD collection is like... super rare. :( So frustrating.

For me, I tend to hope for certain things to get popular if only for other things to get a chance. Like Yuri on Ice means maybe more BL will be given a chance... ? I am just hoping for that. I hope more shoujo ai too.

Probably because I'm an artist, and my character designs are usually pretty detailed and my art style is pretty realistic, so If I see a character that has a very bland design (clothing wise) or 40% of the characters have the same design (Naruto Shippuden) or the art style is extremely unrealistic (One Piece), then I'll probably get triggered and start hating the anime temporarily even If I like the anime.

It won't really matter to me if the anime has old visuals. I'm more about character designs than colors.
Actually, forget what I just said. I actually prefer the older visuals a lot of times.
I've honestly grown to hate the ''light novel art style'' and the bright colors combination used in the more recent anime.
I mean stuff like SAO, Gakusen Toshi Asterisk, Strike the Blood etc.
It's almost like there artist has put no effort whatsoever into creating his/her own art style, and for some reason the colors are nearly identical in every light novel adaptation.

Also Code Geass has a very unique art style, so even if the colors were something like they are in SAO for example, I'd probably still like the art.
I don't really dislike the colors or the art style(s) alone, just when the two are combined, because the combination appears pretty often in light novel adaptations or in anime originals like Comet Lucifer.
Of course some manga have art styles similar to those as well, like Owari no Seraph, but they're usually a little more original.
I can't really say if I like the art style of Owari no Seraph or not though. It's kind of between what I like and don't like.

The fillers are actually pretty good compared to fillers in other anime.

A lot of mainstream anime isn't necessarily "bad" (though some of it certainly is) - it's just that your limited viewing time is better spent elsewhere, imo. Especially given how long a lot of the big mainstream shonen are.

That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by Death Note and Kill la Kill.
