LoneWolf said: AltoRoark99 said: LoneWolf said: ... Yeah that doesn't really make sense m8 It's like asking if lesbians like dick... they don't. That's why they're lesbians. You're assuming all yaoi is pornographic. We're mainly talking about innocent boys' romance stories. Well if you're gonna go with that, I guess the only yaoi, I've enjoyed is MW, but that was written by the god of manga himself. I tend to dislike romance in general, I don't see how making it a romance with two dudes suddenly makes it better. I don't mind if there is yaoi or gay stuff somewhere in the story or some characters happen to be gay. I watch a lot of T.V series (Spartacus, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story) where they have implied gay sex and I don't care, cause it's not the main focus and its' not what I'm watching those shows for. Why would I go out of my way to watch/read a story that focuses on something I don't care about? Same-sex romance can do things that straight romances cannot. For example, they can touch upon how society views homosexuals, and how the two main lovers overcome this struggle. I'm not a yaoi reader, but that's what many yuri stories I've seen tend to do. aidafairbairn said: No they can't. If a "straight" guy says he likes yaoi, he's not entirely straight. He must be at least bisexual. Why would a straight guy like to see two men making out? Same reason why I wouldn't watch yuri. I'm simply not interested. Can they watch yaoi? Of course they can. But between 'watching' and 'liking' there's a damn huge distance. It's not always because they like to see two dudes making out. Some read/watch it for the story alone. Not all yaoi and yuri is pornographic. |

Well technically a lot of the guys in yaoi look like girls except with dicks anyways, so why not? I can't really speak for straight people myself because I really don't have a gender preference. If I see a well written love story, despite the genders involved, I'll watch it. I'm sure it's like that for a lot of straight people as well. I'm also sure there are a fair amount of guys who don't realize that they're bisexual or gay who watch yaoi. Not everybody goes through life knowing all along that they are actually attracted to the same gender. |

Thought Banana Fish was good . . . And that had some Yaoi undertones in it. Would say it is possible for a straight man to like Yaoi, however doubt it isn't extremely rare that a straight man prefers yaoi over heterosexual romance, I am guessing it is just in rare cases you will get a guy who says something along the lines of "I don't mind Yaoi". I really can't imagine someone being straight and "preferring" yaoi though, it makes me question why they prefer it and the only answers I can come up with are not leading me to believe they are straight. Also would like to mention that from what I have seen, Yaoi seems to be very similar in style to Smut series . . . So unless they somehow are very similar in title / art / themes / etc., but written much better, I highly doubt people go to Yaoi and think "Damn, the plot in these is so much better than in other sub-genres". In other words, even if someone was straight but had no preference over whether the couple was a girl and a boy or two dudes, I am going to guess they will still prefer the girl and a guy because the quality of the works is on a different level. Not too bash on yaoi, however asking for depth in characters / plot from a book about two homosexual males written by a female for females is asking for just a bit much. |

You get aroused because there are sex scenes in it, not because it's romantic. And Yaoi/Shounen ai is all over the place on this. Some Yaoi Manga don't even give you a sex scene in the "real plot" but release an extra chapter, in some it's so short and non-explicit that you'd be hardpressed (hue hue) to get aroused at all. So I agree with you on the "like"-thing. If you just enjoy it for the romance storyline, sure, why not. If you get off on it, you're probably not totally straight. But really, it's not inconceivable that someone is turned on by something they see in fiction and not in reality. There's a huge incest/rape genre in Hentai. Because that's what the OP is implying, @badwolf45f. While yaoi can be about romantic relationships too, being homosexual is also being into romantic relationships with males, e.g. wanting to have one. If that's why you watch certain entertainment, then yes, you are homosexual. Not if you watch yaoi, that is. Because of what @Dr_Mantis said himself. Since "love" is associated with "sexual attraction" too. There are little to no "romantic" relationships that do not involve sex. |

Yeah ; I mean i don't consider Yuri relevant in this case since ''Straight'' guys don't even watch shojo most of the time on the first place. Guys in general don't watch Yaoi since it has Romance and it's homosexual. They could watch Yuri , but like hell they watch it for the ''plot'' , that's a lie. In fact , i would argue that most fans of both homo genres are actually FEMALE since while sometimes explicit , it contains lots of emotional stuff and has romantic themes , something that commonly females like. I don't know a single ''Yuri fan'' that's male and that actually respects the genre for what it is , instead of treating it like lame fanservice. Yaoi on the other hand , is in a much better position thanks to it's female supporters , and while some of them are pretty much dumb as hell only caring for the fanservice , most of them care about the plot setting and if a series is actually good they would watch it. In the end i see no problem with ''Straight'' guys liking Yaoi , considering that , you are who you are and nobody has the right to tell you ''you aren't straight'' just because you watch something they don't. It's really stupid , people who judge pretend they are that person , when they aren't. |
