I got this message on deviantart and decided to share it with you all. From the last time I've checked, we need at least 38,000 signatures.

"SOPA 2013

This will make you a felon and be sent to jail for copyright because you uploaded copyright material on to YouTube or any other social media.

♦ So to make this simple, you will be a felon for:

› Making fanart
› Covering a song
› Writing fanfiction
› Let's Plays
› A song playing in the background in a video

And from what am hearing, SOPA is not just for US citizens, but anyone who has internet access.

Here is a petition to stop SOPA: petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/stop-sopa-2013/LMzMVrQF

♦ This petition needs to reach it's goal by September 21, 2013 to stop SOPA"

Good luck, everyone. We don't have too much time left
These faces are so cute that I might just leave them here (#`Д´)´∀`)・ω・) ゚Д゚)゚∀゚)・∀・) ̄ー ̄)´_ゝ`)

Who believes in this anyway? Nothing will happen now nor will anything happen in the future. I'm sure there isn't enough capacity in worlds prison anyways if we are talking about people going to jail for those kind of things.

When will they learn that there is such a thing as impossible? Piracy cannot be stopped no matter what they try. Just look at thepiratebay. How many times have they been "caught"?

Politicians doing something useful? I don't know what you used, but that is one hell of a dream you had there, buddy.

I'd like an actual link to the proposed bill, but you read these and you just know it will never pass. Hell without some of these, Youtube and Devientart would go out of business and 1/4 of the country in jail

Not exactly government, even though government is involved. Instead, throughout history, there have always been those at the top, who seek and wish to control information. By controlling information, they'd have the power to control the world. It's always been this way throughout civilization.

However, every time some new communication technology comes out (like the Internet and the printing press), new avenues of free communication strikes out virtually unregulated.

As much as I press for regulation in various other issues (like guns), when it comes to information, this must be free, to allow unscathed flowing of all sorts of ideas. To those in power, free flowing of information often gets in the way of their plans and ideals.

Unless they start conscripting masses of people into police forces world-wide regardless of background and qualifications, turn Australia back into a prison island for all the people who violate it, and devote at least a GDP's worth of resources to it, it will not happen.

To say nothing of the non-physical absurdity of it.

It is perfectly obvious that it will not happen, and if you actually think it even might, then I bet you also have some really cool opinions on reptilians and the Illuminati and fluoride in tap water.

Oh great. This shit again.

Well as benefit if this goes through: Those who make bad AMVs will be charged as felons. The more idiot DBZ, Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Sklipnot, Creed, and Nickleback fans in prison, the smarter society will become.

To those who says it wont happen:

You probably won't be imprisoned.

Youtube's server, Google's search engine, all uploading websites, anything else that violates their law, will. Remember Mega-Upload(and 20 other websites)? well yeah it happened last time, and where exactly is the proof that they can't do it again? and carry it out completely like it was SUPPOSED TO?

but don't get me wrong I don't think it'll happen either, just that people are obviously thinking the wrong way. American eh

MegaUpload isn't a good example. It wasn't taken down by SOPA, so even if this version doesn't pass, that doesn't mean other sites won't suffer similar fate. Just wrong place, wrong time. Hell, the Digital Millennium Act has taken down several websites in the past, so I consider SOPA to be a lesser threat.

Well, this is probably one of the reasons why TPB and Nyaa. Including others are changing to ".se" (which is the swedish domain). I know TPB did it last year to avoid any trouble with American authorities and now I noticed that Nyaa and a lot of others are also changing.

"One of the most wired nations in the world, Sweden has long been a battleground between those who support file-sharing and the music and film industry. The Nordic state gave birth to the world's largest file-sharing website, Pirate Bay.

Registering the Church of Kopimism is a way to avoid "persecution," said the website of the group, which was given official recognition by the Swedish state last month." (This is taken from 2012, it wasn't actually last month, just to make clear)

1/6 eh? If this passes and if it's true that this is for anyone who has internet access, the entirety of Maldives will be in jail. There's a reason why I like to call it the "Holy Land of Digital Piracy"..... well, fuck. I hope jail has internet access.

I'll try something different; It's one thing to act against piracy, but acting against privacy is something completely different. SOPA... is not an act against piracy and thus, needs to be stopped and burned.... burned with fire and spiders.

Whats neat is that its being attachted to the latest US/European Trade agreement to bum rush it under the rug, also given the details of the Economic rules, and the fact the US has justice department dealings with all the EU states it defactoly allows/forces them to fallow it as well. Something they can't do by default in most of the parliments will be a matter of mutal agreement and keeping to the terms of agreement.

Its funny that the Western Lands long known to themselves at least as centers of Democracy are anything but in the modern era. Google as far as I'm concerned is little more than a mouth Piece for the dictates of washington.

As to what you said on Google Dan. Bullshit, they hand over there Data to the NSA without twitching a eyebrow. Money...oh Sorry Freedom is only important when its aimed at "them There" Damn Russians and Red Chinese.

I'm pretty sure it's the other way around. The NSA takes it from under Googles' nose.

I love what the USA is supposed to stand for, though ever since the 1930s it's been heading into a big muck of turmoil and debt. SOPA only made me facepalm more at the government's stupid intentions, and what's worse is that it's meant to actually be something good, yet can't even properly fulfill that intention.

I'm a somewhat supporter of capitalism, but this is one of the times I want to smack a politician in the face and throw him in jail for supporting that cause too far. People that destroy the knive should be punished, not the ones that use it at all.

Exactly. Google readily hands its data over to the NSA. The media has seen fit to not mention that as of late.

All they need to to is to have the law passed, then they have the power to enforce it if they want to. They can screw an individual real good to set an example. That's not good. This thing must not be passed to begin with, but the lobbyists will keep pushing this again and again until it's passed, or until people actually realize that their so-called "representatives" are not working for the people, and vote those politicians out.

Well as they say " the price of freedom is eternal vigilance". The phrase certainly wasn't made for nothing.
They keep trying and trying so people will relax and say, "it won't go threw we don't have to react" or just not be able to catch on it etc.

That's cause they ain't on the payroll of Hollywood and entrainment big colossal companies only but with private prison companies too. Putting drug users in prison is another excuse to feel their pockets and copyright can be a new unlimited source.
