This is a silly comparison, but lets say you have two people; one rocking a mohawk and studded leather jacket, the other with jeans and a shirt. Which are you going to assume listens to Punk? The former. Even if it isn't necessarily true, you're so used to seeing this image being related with X and Y that you instantly connect them both together. What I'm trying to say is, not all of those guys with a lisp and waving wrists around are gay. Also when you're part of a smaller group, some people get heavily engrossed into it. To give an example, most LGBT people I've met in person and online were by no means stereotypical, and none of them flaunt their sexuality or give too much thought about it. However, the few times I've gone to a gay bar out of curiosity, these stereotypes were somewhat more common.
