You know how capital letters work - by now you have to have noticed that you start a sentence with one. You know periods exist, hell, they do in a lot of Japanese text nowadays as well. Commas exist, you see them, you're seeing them right this second. You know apostrophes exist, you're seeing them now too. You know not to continue one line of text for ages without stopping because, hey, look at that, I'm not doing it.
