The bullying thread by waalex11 consider possibilities to reform our education system, and one of the ideas that arose is that instead of treating primary education as just another motion to go through, we should be actively giving the students a sense of purpose and direction, and how school (not necessarily just the class material) will help them in the long term. One of the ideas I had was if college-age students, maybe slightly older or younger even, could write a paragraph-length letter about life lessons -- thoughts or ideas that developed over the course of when they were, say, 13-25... Things that not only do they wish they've known, but might also be applicable and helpful to future generations, so obviously it can't be anything overly personal.

Basically, the topic is this: Write a paragraph (or a sentence or two for you lazy people) about the the most important things that you've learned over the past few years.

Find employment as soon as it's legal for you to do so, otherwise you're fucked.

College isn't necessary, but it certainly helps.

If you're American, it's easy as shit to get a driver's license. You don't even need to try.

Sorry, what? Also you can't cheat in proper exams, not in a UK university anyway. Cheating in your exams is merely lying to yourself.

It's way better to pursue your dream and fail achieving it, rather than not even trying. Whatever it is.

That's exactly what I'm experiencing right now.

Oh and also, NEVER, under ANY circumstances, keep from pooping for more than 4 days.

In junior high I used to have no cheating policy. But in national exam all of my classmate cheat and I don't. The result is my score is lower than them even tough it's my highest score that I get more than all the preparation exam score I get, and in that preparation exam I always get top 5. As a result I get to a second grade school because of it.

Exactly my way of thinking back then. Why would I cheat if my grade is good? Aparently in my country result is all that matter so if you are stupid but with one night wonder get a good score at national exam no matter what your past result are it doesn't matter anymore.

My paragraph:

Don't be afraid to try life out. Weed won't kill you. You will regret driving drunk. Don't worry about what other people think about you, unless that person matters to you, because people are pretty ignorant. Learn about science, at least a little, before trying out religions. Don't try to get a degree in something for the money because you will end up hating it. Math is really cool, so learn it. There are a lot of online resources for learning if you simply look. Don't be afraid to cheat. Don't be afraid to get in a fight if you have to.

And finally; you better work smart and hard to get what you want out of life because no one will do it for you. People die every day and life goes on. So make it happen.
"Expect nothing, or you will get caught up in the future and not pay attention to the present. Just do the practice diligently, do it because you enjoy it, do it because you believe in it. Don't wait for results, don't wait for it to happen." -VD

Oh and also: grades in school mean nothing. Grades in universities, too. Grades themselves are wrong, they are numbers (or letters) which are supposed to mark the worth of a person in certain subjects, which is deeply wrong. Schools and professors are there to build your character, even if it doesn't feel like that most of the time. So do not hate your professors.

Except those who are really stupid. They only deserve an RKO.

p.s: most of the first things I said in that short paragraph came from the mouth of one of my high school professors, at least once per year, both in class and in his own blog. Many of us couldn't consider him as our professor, we couldn't help seeing him as a second father.

I've learnt a few important life lessons. Most of them are controversial, but at least for me they have proven to be true.

*Whether something is right or wrong depends on the situation.
*Sometimes it's necessary to deceive others to get the best outcome for everyone.
*There's no reason to care what other people think of you.
*Those in authority aren't always correct.
*Everyone makes mistakes, so know when to forgive others.
*If you assume everyone is out to get you, you yourself will be the reason they betray you.
*Some people will delude themselves into thinking you're at fault for something, when in reality they are the ones at fault.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do.

Never ever put your elbow in your ear.

If you're not going to piss, for God's sake get off the pot.

Do not scratch or shake for more than 3 seconds or else it is considered tossing.

Be as stupid as possible. It's more important for politicians to be able to take advantage of you than it is for you to have basic human rights.

In job interviews, it is always prudent for you to blurt out "you want the truth; you can't handle the truth!"

The drunken perspective is one of unihibited honesty. You will always tip your hand as to exactly how big of an idiot you are during the art of conversational enebriation.

Two drunks = one sober person.

Make sure to take as many university level classes as possible that have nothing to do with reality. You will ultimately become disappointed with reality and need something useless to fall back on.

Pay close attention to reality TV shows. The lessons in behavior and decision making will help to carry you through a life just as crappy and meaningless as theirs.

Always use good source material in your research papers such as Al Jaffe's Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions or the Restroom Book of Trivia.

In life we "fall off our horse" even when we're doing so,so well. Sometimes it can be because of a weakness we haven't stripped from ourselves.

A long while ago, after feeling down about myself and such, I decided to become a stronger person mentally, emotionally and physically and I was doing well. I was at one of my best moments; a better version of myself. Then I fell off the horse. I started to give into my worries and fear of letting other people down. I let it control me like a puppet and I was just too anxious about the future and upset at myself.

The thing is, I learned that I was at my best during points on my life. And the reason why I'm sad is because I'm far too attached to those moments. "I'm not what I used to be" became the new mantra.

I decided to let go of those good moments and accept it happened because when you overcome your troubles now you'll be way better than before and when you look back you'll realise you were an inferior version of yourself anyway. It's hard to let go. In fact, I had this sudden realisation when I was working out.

It's not a simple matter of letting go and moving on. For me, it's about placing things in perspective. My perspective of life actually came from Elliot Hulse, and it's helped me so much. Life is like a gym and each challenge is similar to a something such as a barbell. If you walk away from the heavy ones, you'll never come a stronger you.

Do not expect that someone will help you if you can't even stand on your feet.

By the end of the day, family is the best thing you can get in your life. They might be not all that friendly bunch who says 'I love you' every day, but they will help you out through hard time in life. As you grow older you will also realize that even your best of friends will have their own families to care about.

Doing something right is not always doing something 'good'.
Even in most cases, it will makes everyone feels bad, including yourself.

Prepare for the worse, and hope for nothing.
In this life, there are no second chance for failing, and you definitely shouldn't count your chick before it hatches, because in this life shits happens all the time.

Save every penny you can during highschool, whatever you want to buy it's probably not worth it.
Don't stand out in your workplace, if you're better than your boss you'll be fired.
Workout.
Don't get married unless you have something to gain from it.
In college if there's a class you think you can't do you probably can, just keep hammering and on exam day something will come out.

In my home country, you'll have a hard time in getting a job if you are just a high school graduate (even a menial job requires you to have stayed at least 1 or years in college)

Speaking of that, one time my professor said this to us during our class: "It's okay to cheat, as long as no one catches you." I think this one has the biggest impact in my college life. Not that I rely on cheating all the time. I don't cheat if I know I can do it. It's just that sometimes you have to cheat just to accomplish something.

Also:

You can't please everybody (Although I know this one long ago, I learned this the hard way when I was in college)

Don't spend if what you're spending for isn't necessary.

The number one lesson I've learned?... Life's a bitch, plain and simple. Things are almost never going to work out the way you want them to. Loved ones are going to die sooner or later, friends will move away, loves will become too far to reach, friends are going to drift away and leave you behind, things will change, and you might even find yourself feeling alone while everyone has moved on. And yet, every time these things happen, you're only moving a square ahead in the game called Life. The only way things will get better is to plow ahead, hoping you'll land on that square that'll put you in a position to win it all.

I'm lazy and therefore will not write paragraphs lol. but here are some things Ive learned in life:

- The only thing that you are guaranteed at birth is death. You have a right to that. Everything else is earned.
- Hard work is more valuable than talent. Talent has limits while hard work has none.
- Good judgement mainly comes from experience - but a lot of experience comes from bad judgement lol. That said, always try to learn from the mistakes of others, not your own.
- Knowledge doesnt necessarily make you wise.
- Life isnt about going through it without any failures. It's about how you respond to failure. You are really not judged by or remembered for your failures, but your success. most successful people tried and failed in many ventures before they finally found the right one for them. If you keep stepping up to the plate, you will eventually hit a home run. You'll always miss 100% of the shots that you don't take.
- If you want the best of life, you have to give life the best you've got.
- "The harder you work, the luckier you get."
- Always move forward in life. if youre not busy living, youre busy dying.
- Understanding is the key to everything.

Here's my two cents... take them as needed...

Make sure you pay attention to the situation before making a judgement. Situations have great power over action, and not all actions are a result of a core attribute.

Do what you want as long as you believe the consequences are worth it.

Know what you do and do what you know.

In order to get someone else to do what you want, the first step is to absolve them. Make them feel as if they will not be held responsible for their actions.

You can always, and I mean ALWAYS, blame the Internet.

Learning how to B.S. is life's most important skill to learn.

All advice is B.S. Good advice just happens to work out for more than one person.

I'll just post one of my favorite pieces of writing.

"One has to come to term us with one's own mortality.
And you can't really help people who are having problems with mortality,
If you've got problems of your own.
So you have to begin to sort things out,
And I thought I had sorted things out until I saw this excerpt from this book,
Of certainty I shall remember what it said:
"Life is not the opposite of death. Death is the opposite of birth. Life is eternal."
And I thought that it's the most profound words I have ever heard about that issue and it really put me in peace.
(I felt it was a wonderful story.)
And that's it.
What else is there to say?
Heh.
Life is eternal.
Surely the opposite of life is not the death, but life is eternal.
There is no opposite.
And so, what happens is, I suppose,
(and isn't it a raging or outrageous)
State of pure consciousness, stillness and silence?
Yeah, what we are looking for now,
We are searching for and we have been searching for,
Now we've become closer it and now we know it's already there,
Is there for ever to seek,
It's there,
And it's going be there,
All the time,
Forevermore.
