There is another topic of this but the poll is behind by 100+ episodes and includes all arcs rather than just serious

I have to say the Yoshiwara in Flames arc was the best. New characters were introduced that would stay in the show, Gintoki beat a Yato, showed a little of what's going to happen next with Harusame, and he basically saved Yoshiwara becoming it's savior.

Yah its probably my 2nd favorite arc in the show

Also sweet if ikkoku keisei is getting votes and its not even been animated yet then im getting really excited, god damn this 2 week break for shows on tv tokyo, your screwing me out of new gintama and new zetsuen no tempest

The Ikkoku Keisi arc seems like it has a lot of previous characters in it. That makes me look forward to it more, I'm expecting it to be like 5 episodes long. Yeah a lot of shows go on break at this time, the time when you really want to watch them is when they go on break.

Apparantly the only character missing in the ikkou keisi arc is katsura

Hell i even heard takasugi appears in it, like fuck yes this arc will rock

Also im expecting about 6 episodes, they usually animate at 1.5-2 chapters per episode, with ikkou keisi being 14 chapters and apparently the 2nd longest arc in the series.

Ikkoku Keisei personally... Oboro and Shigeshige made that arc the best for me.

I never really considered the Yagyuu arc to be serious... With that whole toilet scene and all.

yah i know its a stretch but the last 2 episodes plus that fight hijikata had were serious enough, i mean it had about as much comedy as the baragaki arc had and the show itself even said that one was serious so i guess yagyuu counts too

Also god damn it, how good is this next arc going to be? I mean i find it funny that apparently the 2 best arcs in the show involve prostitutes

Yah kagura vs abuto, one of the best fights in the show.

Also i really hope to see 4 divas arc grow in votes, that arc was just so good. Its so emotional, intense, heartwarming, and all around fantastic, its the reason i gave gintama' a 10, it felt like a really good movie along with the animation that is normally associated with a anime movie, both gintoki vs jiroucho and them vs the bodyguards were downright fantastic

It will always be Yoshiwara In Flames Arc for me. Beating a Yato means that you can beat most of other opponents.

Kagura's Rage Mode, Gintoki's perseverance, Shinpachi's will, family's bond, and Tsukuyo's hotness (though not as hot in Red Spider arc). It's awesome. Hoping that Sunrise to reanimate it in high definition with more details. Kagura's Rage Mode SAIKYOU!!!

Kagura's fight is the most unforgettable scene for me. I loved it.

The Four Devas arc was definitely my favorite. It just felt really... epic. I mean, it brought back a lot of the characters from the earlier episodes, almost every major character was involved and Gintoki was just overall a beast. The ending was also very emotional and satisfying. Not to mention it was paired with the ending song "Samurai Heart", which I seriously loved.

Second would be Yoshiwara because of Tsukuyo's appearance, Kagura going complete Yato and the Hosen fight being awesome.

I voted for the Kabukicho Four Devas arc, and no doubt it is my favorite in the series. Besides the exciting plot, top-notch animation and amazing soundtrack, I was really impressed with the characterization portrayed in this arc. This time round, the fights between Yorozuya and the antagonists felt a little more personal as it involved Otose (who obviously has been a constant mother figure to a lot of the characters), plus Yorozuya + Otose & Co. were being forced to defend their homes.

Gintoki’s rage upon seeing Otose in such a state was one of the best scenes in Gintama, in my opinion. I also loved the character dynamics between the Gintoki, Kagura and Shinpachi shown in this arc, esp. Shinpachi’s powerful speech/reminder to Gintoki about protecting the things they cared about together, and what the Yorozuya truly stood for.

The fights were done extremely well, esp. Gintoki vs. Harusame. I absolutely love it when Gintoki uses a Katana rather than his usual wooden sword.

Umm, you didn't include the Fuyo/Android arc (69-71) and I think that was my second favorite after Yagyuu and Yoshiwara in flames arc. Hard to decide between those two.

The end of the toilet episode was one of the most touching moments in Gintama, for me at least. But yeah, a lot of that arc isn't very serious..

Shinsengumi Rebellion and Baragaki are on my top. Gotta love Hijikata, and the hole overcoming the curse was pretty cool... and Baragaki also has the cutest and deadliest Nobume, can't beat that. Can't wait for next arc

But Kabukicho is my favorite. Jirocho is the most badass black dude in anime ever.

that wasnt all that serious, it was kind of like the last 10 min were and some of the backstory was but it was too short in numbers for me to have it count, Alot of gintama arcs get serious, hell almost every single one does but im asking for people to pick the ones that really get serious like the ones listed do, For example the ones i have listed all include some form of a fight scene, like a legit one that doesnt just have 1 swing here and there,

Plus i dont think anyone would really vote for it

P.S. Should i add the arc after the current one? Cause the op made it seem like it got serious, obi-one i think it was called.

for me, yoshiwara arc(139~146) > four devas arc(210~214) = shisengumi arc(101~105) > benizakura arc(58~61) = red spider arc(177~181) -- in that order.
i don't like baragaki arc at all, i think it was kinda boring... and in my opinion, umibozu arc(40~42) & fuyo arc(69~71) are both serious arcs too.

yah i know umibzou technically counts, but i dont know theres a big differance between the ones up there and the umibozu in terms of seriousness, all the other arcs up there kind of have that drop off point where things get darker and will ahve little to no comedy till the epilogue, Umibozu doesnt have that, Fuyo i barely remember but would anyone honestly vote for that?

Like im not counting every arc that gets serious, cause almost every one of them aside from a small number of them do at some point near the end. Even some of the most absurd did, but im asking for those specific arcs where shit really got real that really let the drama take the majority of the screen time, that being said i should have left yagyuu off.

Shinsengumi Rebellion arc. Love the Shinsengumi. Went in depth with Hijikata's personality(s), and I was happy to see Sogo's strong loyalty to Kondo. Loved how Hijikata and Sogo explained to Kondo that they were the sword to protect his beliefs. Isao was a great antagonist, and was very satisfied with his resolve. Gintoki vs Bansai was cool, but Yorozuya in Shinsengumi uniforms were awesome!
