there should be a new feature added where you can have an option if you want to get an e-mail sent to you when someone quotes one of your posts. a lot of times i don't want to watch a thread but if someone quotes me and asks something by about post or anything i want to know so i could respond to them and the topic

I personally wouldn't use it. If I comment on something (like here this thread) I would also check it out every now and then for evt responses. And for those who don't browse a lot of threads here on MAL there is the "Watching Topic" feature, which you can enable e-mail notification on so you'll get an e-mail whenever there's a new comment to that particular topic.

In addition, I'm not sure it's easy to make this feature, as the quote system is pretty much free to manipulate with. Example:
The day before yesterday Xinil-sama did NOT say the following, but let's just pretend that he said:
Woah popcorn! I LOVE POPCORN!
... Even if I took time to write alot of intelligent words of deep thought and meaning in my signature, would you really care to read and comment on it? ...

I wouldn't use it either and I don't even think it's possible with the current forum software. And a lot of times when responding to a specific post I don't quote, instead I use:

@soul4soul:

or something like that. Seems fairly useless, at least to me. Even if it is possible.

I actually prefer going back through topics and reading them. Because then you're not just responding to people who respond to you, you are also reading their conversations and can interject as well.

I can only imagine what would happen though. Like I post something really suggestive, everyone quotes me and get like twenty e-mails or something.

Also would this work if users quote the person quoting me? Would I get e-mails for that too?

I would end up annoyed and turn it off.

I think this is a great idea I never know what threads I postin, but with this I would become more active within the MAL community. Of cause you would need to add the ability to turn it off.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this suggestion before or not or if this feature already exist. (pretty sure it doesn't but I tend to overlook things that are right under my nose alot. XP)

Anyway, Whenever I add a reply to a topic I'm always wondering if someone has replied to my comment or not. So I'm always going around checking the topics I have commented to. I was wondering an e-mail notification option could be added to MAL, notifying you that someone has replied to your posted comment. Kinda like how Youtube does.

I apologize if this has already been suggested before and if this is a stupid suggestion.

If you're the one watching the thread change the settings here under General Settings or here under forums post (find All) it will take you to the very first post you made on a forum you're looking for.

I think we should be able to have an option to receive a notification (through email or whatever) when someone quotes your post. The reason is because many times when someone posts, someone else will usually reply/respond to your post by quoting it and putting in their own opinions. However, due to many other posts accumulating on the topic, the reply is rarely ever seen.

Personally, whenever I post in the anime/manga discussion threads (you know...the specific episode/chapter threads), I sometimes look back and see someone reply to my post with a question or usually an answer (and other times it's their opinion), but I never see it because of how quick the thread moves.

I know I can just scroll through the pages since it's not that hard, but I feel like this deserves its own option just like how there is an option to be notified on new posts on a thread you are watching. The only real issue with this idea is the fact some people quote the original OP and give a general response - which the reply button would have been better. You might also think this defeats the purpose of the reply button and having threads, but I feel that it is not always adequate enough if you want to point something specific regarding someone's post.

That's all. I don't want to type anymore since it feels like I'm losing sight of what I'm trying to say.

It's not necessary for this to be implemented. If you really want to keep track of whether anyone quotes your post, just add the thread to your watched topics and check on it.

*We'll just have to wait for the "Find All" in the profile to be back.

I think it would be pretty useful to get a little notification that you had been quoted in a specific thread. It would make it much easier to stay in conversations rather than searching for the topic over and over. A good place for it would be in between the site menu bar and the "Forum" bar. An example would be:

"You have been quoted in the _____ forum at ____ thread"

(the blanks being the links to the said forum and thread)

Sorry if this was suggested already. I went back about 5 pages in the forum and didn't see a suggestion for this =/

Agreed. If we can at least have the search options we had it will be happy tears.

Anyway great suggestion but unfortunately the site fails keeping even basic features it use to have so it will probably need a miracle to see this happening.
Hell i don't even know why a suggestion place even exist in the forums considering how it's being ignored. I saw some smart suggestions that are amazingly popular and supported and still after years and years they ain't realized so yeah.

I like that notification idea, I really hope they add it. As for who suggested "Find All", you have completely read my mind.

It kind of pissed me off there was only 'Search: anime, manga, people, characters, clubs, etc.' without one of them combined. There isn't even a 'search for related keywords' in the forum area to keep the same type of post repeated.
I mean, if it is a rule to not repeat them, shouldn't they make it easier for us and not lock our topics if it was simply an honest mistake? It's seriously a pain to look manually.

Well, apparently only a single guy is moderating this area. *You know what, there should also be a rate suggestions option. They should also be put in three catagories: Most Popular, Most Commented On, and Newest Suggestions. That way the moderator knows what MAL community wants, and it will be easier access for all of us.

(* someone make a new post suggesting this, because I can't be bothered to do it myself, lol)

I the watching topic thing isn't as good when your email gets spammed for every post, I 'd rather be notified every time someone quotes me and I can respond as fast as possible.

I've seen this on another forum I use and I must say its extremely useful. Basically if you've been quoted on a thread you get a notification, a notification like when you receive a message.

The point in this would be so that you don't have to keep going back to a thread you previously read. For example you wrote something on a thread and went offline, the next day that thread has been spammed so much that you don't have the time (or don't want) to read all the messages, however with the quote notification you wouldn't have to look through all the posts if you didn't want to, you simply click on the notification and it takes you to the right thread and right page to show you the post that you were quoted in.

Sorry if this has been suggested before but I don't think the search option works and I read through the things that had been rejected but didn't see this suggestion.

Please tell me what you think of the idea.

Why do you not just toggle watching and watch the topic you are waiting for a post on? Then when you want to know if there is a post, just click, My watched topics.

A thread is not simply a question and answer thread. Sometimes people open up a conversation, and quotes your posts (like this). If that happens and they happen to ask you a question, you wouldn't know, and you won't get to reply to them as fast. Not unless, you get back to this thread by chance and read the post after you, up to the last post. That's why I think it's better to have notifs.

You can put threads on a watched listed and under forum settings you can set it so you get notified (not sure, but i think via email) whenever someone posts a reply to watched threads.

You can click on the tiny blue arrow just before the name of a thread, it should take you to your first unread post in the thread so you won't miss any replies.

sometimes clicking that will redirect you to the first post of a thread instead of the last post of the thread, if that happens the moderators said to report it to them

I think when somebody quotes your comment in the forum you should get a notification, because it's basically just like a reply to your comment. And the only way to know if somebody has responded to your comment is to manually browse the discussion/thread. Also this would make discussing anime or other topics with users easier.

You can toggle watching on a thread if that is ok with you, but it would be nice to know if someone mentioned you in a quote, multiple times I have not replied to someone quoting me because I didn't see it

No, I don't think that would be good because sometimes names can be misspelled, plus some of the users have their user names the same as anime characters. For example if somebody had Naruto as their user name they would get a notification almost every week because of the episode discussions.

It can be set up to the whole

@jayvon type of situation where you have to have the @ first. Nobody would write @naruto by mistake.

I don't really care about this suggestion, but just saying. A lot of forums use that method already and even have a special little page for all the @replies to you.
