Just as the title says. I should put Metal gear solid from Psx since it really was the greatest game ever created, in my opinion of course.

Got really addicted to sengoku rance and can't remember how many times I banged my keyboard because of dying senselessly.
Some time's I'd cut my sleep to 3 hours just to play it more.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.

Tales battle system plus two mobile characters, pokemanz, and a story about young romance. Pretty much perfect. Although I am like the only one in the universe who believes this.

This completely. I don't think a game has gotten the, "You're a normal guy vs an impossibly big monster." theme right since. The atmosphere was also perfect and its minimal story telling still told a great story.

Been there done that. Played it for almost 2 days in a row without sleep.
So fucking hardcore.

As for me, I feel that Persona 3 is one of the best games I've played so far.

Glad to see another MGS fan! Well, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Bayonetta are a tie for me in this regard. ^_^

I love how MGS3 embraced the notion of the classic spy-and-espionage vibe (complete with ridiculous sci-fi and the supernatural) and set in the Cold War era at that. I also liked how it finally (and effectively) utilized the basic concept of soldiers being used as tools for the government in the most simple but heart-wrenching way. As for Bayonetta I absolutely love its intricacy as a hack n' slash game (contrary to what some people may believe). Also the game design and the scale of the boss battles were glorious eye-candy, that and I enjoyed the nonchalant tongue-in-cheek humor it had.

Best, implying perfection: Portal
Favorite: Dark Souls (With mods Prepare to Die Edition is even better, save for the freakin forced surround sound.)

Can't really say one game, so I'll do it by genre that I mainly play XD.
Fighting 2D: Guilty Gear
Fighting 3D: Tekken series, only 3d fighter i play lol...
Stealth: MGS series, Snake in a box.
RPG: FFVII
MOBA: Dota 2 - played LoL, and HoN but got bored of both. (more or less biased lol)
FPS: Counter-Strike 1.6, if only it was alive where I live.
Sport: Fifa, just enjoy it.
Racing: Ridge Racer, drift city 24/7

hmm, cant think of anything else.

There is no such thing.

I've played many games I've enjoyed, but I can't think of a "best" game, and just because I like it doesn't automatically make it 'the best".

Hm, the difference between "favorite" and "best" is not insignificant. Favorite would be a draw between Shadow of the Colossus and Mother 3. Best? Well I finally got around to Cave Story this week and have to say it's a perfect game in every sense of the word. I'll have to think about the question a bit more.

Same here, all in all I'm probably around 200 hours in total. That's a lot considering it's "just" a Visual Novel with gameplay elements. The game doesn't even have real depth but it's fun nonetheless.

Anyway, it's hard to name a "best game" because they are all too different. For RTS games, it would probably be Starcraft: Broodwar and Age of Empires 2. FPS games, Call of Duty 2 and 4? That's more regarding the multiplayer, singleplayer-wise it would be something like Half Life. And then the RPG, sandbox etc games...uff.

Planescape: Torment - for completely turning the established RPG tropes on their heads with what so many considers the most intriguing story ever told in the medium.

Half-Life - for seamlessly blending story and g'ameplay mechanics with absolutely superb level design.

System Shock 2 - as Chris Avellone himself worded it: "There's a reason I continually cite System Shock 2 as a "design doc" for developers - it got so many things about the experience right, it's a must-play title"

Some honorable mentions: Deus Ex, Baldur's Gate II, UFO: Enemy Unknown, Thief II, Alpha Centauri, Fallout, Heroes III.

Metroid Prime. The story is only as prominent as you want it to be, the loading screens are very well-disguised, the graphics are some of, if not the best, the Gamecube has given us, the platforming is perfect despite working in first-person most of the time, the music is incredibly atmospheric and fitting for each area, and the controls are fluid unlike most FPS.

This isn't even counting the sequencing breaking you can do in that game.

Fallout - in pretty much ever aspect the best game I've played. Simply amazing, story, writing, sound, gameplay, design and maybe best of all atmosphere. The game is absolutely amazing. I still replay it even to this day.

It's such a hard decision, so many games I have played over my life, but I think I have to go with Super Mario World. It was the first game I ever played, and it was platforming perfection. I can't think of a game that I have played to completion more times, the replayability is so high, the level design is so tight, the controls are responsive.

Last time I played Metroid Prime I had to consciously remind myself that you're *not* supposed to get the Space Jump Boots at the beginning of the game.

SNES = Earthbound
PS = Digimon World (The first one)
PS2 = Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater
PSP = Tales of Eternia
PC = ATM none.

And... Special mention

PC = IB

No, I am not kidding, IB is literally my very favorite game atm. A 100 megabyte masterpiece.
