| I hate to make a thread like this but whenever I saw some threads comparing yaoi to yuri, I just shakes my head. Those people don't realize they already wrong even before any arguments started. First the compared yaoi to wrong genre to begin with, yuri. While it quite obvious that yaoi is made by and for straight women but yuri in other hand is very different. They are some authored by men, some by women, some marketed towards men and some for teenage girls. Not all yuri mangas and shows are as 'sexy' as most yaoi mangas and shows but there also very shoujo-ish yuri shows like Maria-sama ga Miteru series and Aoi Hana and ones that appeal males better like Maka-Maka(manga) and Strawberry Panic. So far I never saw or heard some yaoi that appeal straight and gay men better than women. I'm may have slight pro-yuri here as I'm a straight male but I think people should compare yaoi to hentai instead. Hentai is, at least from our understandings is a very pornographic shows featuring hardcore sex scenes, be it straight or lesbian ones. In fact some men avoid yuri because all they want to see is hardcore girl-on-girl actions, not some sappy lesbian love stories. Yaoi is pretty much women's answer to hentai. Lot's of sex, little to no plot at all and very 'sexy' to them. It is almost every fujioshi's dream to see two or more bishies doing 'sexy' things with each other while you sit there and enjoy their show, much like a man seeing a two or more women doing the same 'sexy' stuff. In other words women are just as guilty when it come to porn, in fact they never hate porn. They only hate men's porn as they can burn your copies of Playboy or any other similar men's magazines but they also kept yaoi mangas in their secret stash. Women are just as hypocritical as men are. Stop comparing yaoi to yuri, which is unfair to yuri in first place. Compare it to hentai instead because hentai have bigger market and better appeal than yaoi. |

| Yaoi= boyxboy Yuri= girlxgirl Therefore they are comparable. You can say you like one or the other better. They are the opposite of each other therefore are open for comparison. Both Yaoi and Yuri do not have to include sex, while hentai is usually sex for the sake of having sex. |

| This is completely foolish. Yuri and Yaoi can be compared because they are both genres dealing with same sex couples. Yaoi doesn't have anything to do with hentai, the two are not the same genre. A lot of times the two genres are intertwined as a sort of fetish - and I for one personally wish their was more pure, loving, non-hentai yaoi series out there. To say every yaoi series should be labeled hentai is just plain insulting. Perhaps as a 'straight' person you should stop meddling in shit you don't even comprehend. Also just so people know, yaoi is not just a genre for females - they're gay and bisexual males who enjoy the genre as well. Whodathunkit?! |

Yes they are heart-breaking for most female readers but for most men like myself, that's not how real men behave. Same goes for yuri as well. They often very friendly to each other but real world is not like that. Most women hate other women than men unless they are feminazis or such. About heart-breaking part, no thanks. I don't find men crying to each other as appealing. I rather see a brother who gave up his life in order to save his sister. That's many time more heart-breaking than any BL out there. |

Sorry to burst your ignorant little bubble, but a majority of gay guys really are very in touch with their feelings and like to show that when with their partner. And I have it on good authority many secure straight guys are the same way when they are in love and past puberty. Pretty sure now that you are just a naive kid.
