Wow! what a dark read! I couldn't stop once I started it. I was a little confused by the ending though. Anyone care to share what they took away from it?

I was really expecting her to kill herself at the end, but it was refreshing to see that being the character she is, she held on and is still fighting~
I totally could have gone for more, but the ending wasn't really bad per-say~

she killed herself. the one we saw at the end was her "sister".

The circumstances of the author is certainly unfortunate. Not sure how much of an effect that had on the ending. Very interesting read. I quite liked all of the characters. Flawed. Would have made for nice juxtaposition if her sister's transformation was completely natural.

It's definitely Ririko at the very end. The investigator stopped her attempt at public suicide, and the pool of blood in the next scene was from her gouging out her eye. Thus the eyepatch in the end. She also had apparent difficulty talking or moving, while her sister was seen several pages earlier, extremely lively.

What was the reason for her gouging her eye out? Seemed to cure her of the disease in her skin. The "deterioration". But it was unclear so I'm not sure.

The last panel is certainly up for interpretation. Has the deterioration really cleared up? Could just be make-up. Could be more plastic surgery. It's of minor significance, as she's still taking medicine and has trouble moving/talking, so she certainly isn't fine. Reason for gouging her eye? Same as her planned public suicide, which she explained in the chapters. To leave her mark, before she no longer has the means to do so.

Thanks. It's the smaller details that are ambiguous.

It's been awhile but iirc none of the women who underwent the surgery actually died from the side-effects of not following through (at least as far as was shown). Their deaths were self-imposed. Is that right? Makes sense then that Liliko is still hanging in there.

Some things were hard to follow, like the dream sequences. I don't really understand the connection between the investigator and Ririko, or how he was able to stop her from committing suicide. Seemed like an illusion in her head? And she was able to get away w.o anyone seeing her? Without an eye and huge blood loss? Uhh ok. There's messages here but I don't think I care enough to dig deep.

Nice atmosphere overall though.

This was a VERY dark, yet intriguing read. The ending was confusing and her thoughts were hard to follow at times though. The things people do to look beautiful though.

"Tiger Lily's Bizarre Adventure", huh. Apparently Moyoco Anno was involved in getting this volume published in 2003, interesting. I wonder what are the differences between this one and the original serialization (if any).

Sad to know that Okazaki suffered from an incident. Wikipedia lists some works after that date, but I guees those are some older ones republished? Or is she fine now and has some new works? Helter Skelter seems to be the last one translated into English.

P.S. So Ririko's sister got involved with who's implied to be Mr. Harada, I guess. It was him who she was seeing back in chapter 8 ("offscreen"), and it was his wife back in chapter 7 who visited the clinic? So the cycle continues and Ririko's sister change was due to surgery?

This is torture porn ... It tried to be deep but it was shallow as our protagonist.
Art is terrible , like horrible ! Looks like sketches, if they tried to sold us the Beauty of something well FUNNY, it was horrible all together but i know this was not on porpuse to send a message, is just lazy art.
The story of the clinic make no sense and feels like an excuse to condone plastic surgery all together. Vanity and body dismorphia is a thing, they could use that, but no. Almost felt like the clinic used some type of mystical treatments that cause dependence... Half baked.
Protagonist.... Oh boy, our female lead is way pass the hedonist Paty, she is almost a sociopath, she Even r4ped her assitancd.
Hate this story and it was not as deep anf it want to come across.
