I notice the gender first because its well first.

That said, seems kinda messed up to double standard your opinions based on someones genitals.

Well... I'm a girl.
But generally speaking, I usually go to the profile of a user and check out the gender first.. I don't know why exactly either:D

I usually check compatibility first, then gender.

If we have good compatibility and their gender is female, I get quite allured... as creepy as that sounds.

I don't look at gender at all. What does it matter whether someone is male or female?
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.

It shouldn't matter but to me it does I suppose. Especially when it comes to Sienen anime. I would think it would be great if a dude gave it a 10 other than a female...

Maybe it's just me.

From favorite anime maybe not but from favorite characters yes. The same goes for me though.
Btw how did you managed to have 8 favorites? I want that too.

Huh! 0_o. What's so great if a guy gave a senien anime a 10? That's usual.

I am actually a girl in real life. I only say I am male on my profile so that people take my opinions seriously.

But not from anime or manga, which is more relevant of one's taste eh?
Back in the day when MAL was glitching you could take advantage of this lack of synchronization between the servers, as far as I understand this technical mambo-jumbo, and get your self as many favorites as you were fast with your fingers and a mouse. I know people who had 10 favs.

I'm afraid it's impossible now.

I always look at age first. Then I wonder how they are able to access the internet at 5 years old, but begin to think it would explain their taste.
Then I realize I'm not in 2001 and they are teenagers.
Then I am disappointed.

Gender isn't remarkable since almost half of MAL is female.

Meh, when I visit a profile I check the Anime and Manga List Views first because kill me for this I don't know how the counter goes up. I mean, does it go up when somebody views my list or if I view others list? Or does it go up when I view a particular anime/manga page? I'm a clueless wart = __ = );;

After the list views, I look at the last list updates! Honestly, everything else comes last.

Maw, poor oldie. :p :D

I'd tend to look at the compatibility first, then the favorites, then the profile picture, then the profile description and eventually the gender.

I must say I'm a bit curious about the gender as I used to think that your avatar was supposed to be a bit of you so I always thought that people with female avatars were female... which is compleeeeeeetely wrong on that forum. :D
Beyond that, I couldn't care less. :p

Naturally, when I check a profile my eyes does tend to wander and see what gender they are. However, it's just curiosity, so it holds no real importance to me in the end.

Considering this is the internet and people can LIE about that quite easily [like lying anywhere else in general], you really have no way of verifying someone's gender, and that doesn't just go for those who say they are female, it goes the other way too.

Thus I really don't care what someone says about what their gender is and don't really pay attention to it until I hear them in an actual voice chat, which I wouldn't care to take the time to do for probably anyone on MAL.

I can see how on some things there may be a difference in rating between how a female might view/rate it compared to a male, but I think in most general cases it will not be anything significant. I just find it rather pointless to have gender influence my opinion of how effectively they can rate a show as long as they can back it up with a sensible opinion.

I'm so happy that girls exist. Don't really get this thread though. But whenever I get a positive comment on my profile from a girl, I feel like flying over the rainbow while melting away in the sunset, chasing my dreams to an overdimensional warpgate of destiny, where love can be boundless.

Ah refreshing, but no, seriously whether the user is female or male does make a big difference in the perspective, because in general both grow up in difference social contexts and also females have an inferiority complex towards men hidden deep down; that being said i get the thing OP first said, where i see a message and go see if she's a female, keeps my senses sharp when i'm bored. And yeah i also look at the age when one posts something juvenile or viceversa because no matter how hard i tried to not generalize in the end it proved much simpler.

Did you really just say that women have an inferiority complex to the almighty man? I can honestly say that I have never once felt that way. In fact, I have more education and a better paying job than a lot of men I know. I'm just going to let this one go right here because I'm guessing you just know no better.

Being a female really has nothing to do with my taste in anime or manga. If you look at my lists, it's typically darker, bloody and brutal things. I like dirtiness and griminess and love stories really get on my nerves. I mean, I run a guro blog, is that feminine?

This whole thread is really revolting if you think of the underlying contexts of it. The whole "girls like pink, boys like blue, derp" mentality really shouldn't fit in on this type of site, I would think.

When something is good - it's good. Does everything have to be super mature and super intelligent to be good? No. 99% of manga/anime is full with bishounens and bishoujos. Even in Monster, lol. I'm serious xD.

I usually look at the country they are from than the gender.

You should know those things aren't the only thing that matters. Something mature and intelligent can be butchered by sh*tty presentation, music, colors and stuff like that.

That would be an example of an anime that failed in its presentation. Mindless anime's that lack a cohesive plot and don't possess any form of intelligent plot progression, on the other hand, seem fairly lackluster. But I see you're a fan of Bleach, so my argument might not make sense to you :/
