At least it isn't the Kia commercial with dancing rapping hamsters.

I liked this one better.

Just as others have pointed, if I were your average American seeing that commercial on my TV, my immediate thought wouldn't be, "Wow! I wonder who 'Hatsuni Miku' is!" or "Wow! I need to buy this car!"

My immediate thought would be, "... What the crap did I just watch...?" Ellipses and all.

Hey, Crypton, here's an idea. How about you advertise and/or release the product in America first, so when people see that commercial, they will know who you're talking about?

Ok, this would be acceptable if this was an Asian or Japanese commercial but the US, oh god what the hell and localization first makes me wonder why do it here first?

Yeah, me too. It's weird they chose Hatsune Miku to appear in a US orientated commercial. And like someone here already said: That scream just before she's on the podium just scares people off.
And they should have chosen someone with a Japanese accent too voice it over.

It's just a great failure.

I'm more curious of the thoughts of people who haven't heard of Miku who watch the ad than people who have heard of Miku and are raging that she's getting notice in mainstream US culture.

I don't understand how this is bad. It's not like the US is going to affect the Vocaloid franchise in Japan. You can always just ignore anything US related. (sorry for my semi-rant)

The commercial would only annoy Americans with Miku's high pitch and worsen the stereotypes of the Japanese people. Satisfies me though.

Hey, an actual reasonable response. Impressive.

Also, didn't they say they wanted to market Miku to the west? If so, expect to see more stuff like this, assuming the idea doesn't flop completely.

*Looks at the commercials*

*Looks at the Toyota Corolla Miku official website*

Oh cool its a picture of Hatsu- BLEARAHAAARUUUUUGHH (vomiting noises). That... thing is an abomination... of Miku...

The moral of this story:

American business needs to do a better job at introducing foreign stuff to its population.

Why not choose Megurine Luka? Ya she might not be as famous as Miku but the latter sucks.

I don't really get the point of this; the general audience isn't going to give a fuck about Miku unfortunately.

It's quite funny, though no American will know who she is. They will probably think it's Toyota's new mascot.

there are now a mandarine and cantonese version of the same ad.

mandarine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qYFnKF9WXg&feature=feedu
cantonese: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7s9-hXpvxk&feature=feedu

mikus voice is now not so loud. means the scream isn't that hearable.

That is a strange ad to air in the United States. It would help if Miku's name was pronounced right though.

I'm sorry but I don't get why people are so "speechless" or think "WTF does Toyota think they're doing?" or "this is ridiculous"...

Contrary to those who thinks that way, I think it's great. The first time I saw the commercial, I thought of the tragedy that just happened, and I think it's great that Toyota is actually trying to move forward and gain its grounds. I saw it as an effort to take the powerful next step from what happened just months ago to say that we're all right now.

I don't think it's solely the Toyota company in the US that made this decision, it's like going to its roots (to what's originally from and embraced in Japan).

Just my thought. And I also agree with @Squarebox's comment.
