There has already been a remake of Generation I with FireRed and LeafGreen and Generation II with HeartGold and SoulSilver, so it shouldn't be surprising if GameFreak is looking to make an extra buck. The problem is maintaining the history which has continued for three generations. In Unova, Caitlin became an Elite Four member while Cynthia references the events in Platinum. That game itself takes place at roughly the same time as HGSS, which is set three years after the events of FRLG.

The issue arises from the implied congruency that is generally accepted from the previous remakes, with RSE and FRLG followed by the time skip to DPPt and HGSS. A remake of RS that runs along with BW would contradict past events, one of which is Steven Stone investigating Latias'/Latios' sudden appearance in Kanto. Lati@s first canon appearance is in RSE, implying that they traveled from Hoenn for whatever reason. The only way to recreate RS without breaking the lore from Generation III onward is to set it at exactly the same time as it did in the original games. Except, there would be an impression of sheer laziness as Generation III is compatible with Generation V via Generation IV, as one could argue that Generation I and II being remade worked around the cut-off point Generation III created from RBY and GSC.

Regarding story, they've set the precedent with the Egg subplot in HGSS already, so there's no reason for them to ignore the complications of an RS remake should they go for it. The big question is how they're going to solve that problem. Anyone have any ideas?

a ruby and sapphire remake do seem highly likely to happen but wouldnt just a emelard remake be enough.if gamefreak really remakes them it should be 3d like, also many places need some more npcs and story driven events to make them feel more like their suppose to like rustboro the place seemed a lil underpopulated and ever grande city needs a city and not just a poke center before victory road now as for gym leader maybe theil go for what they did in emelard.now for battle frontier a good idea can be a ship that leads to the 2 versions of it the r,s,e and plt,hg,ss.oh and finnaly what about islands that become accesible postgame that were created by groudon that will make the hoenn less water invaded...wow i just left my imagination get ahold of me

I would love it if they made a Ruby/Sapphire remake, though I wouldn't need it. I still have my Sapphire and Emerald games (Emerald being my favourite Pokemon game ever), and they both work perfectly. I think I'd probably still buy a remake, though. Generation three was my favourite, and I think it'd be worth playing a new version of it. :>

I honestly don't think RSE needs a remake because due to the simple fact that it's possible to transfer pokemon from these versions to the most recent games (BW). RSE is still fresh in my mind...even 8 years later, but I wouldn't be surprised though if it is remade.

i probably would buy a remake of it...there is just no point when we can already transfer all our pokemon the latest version and that was the game that was the beginning of there being too many pokemon and it getting really repetitive...

Oh I'm sure it'll come sooner or later now that the new DS models (DSI-3DS) don't have a GBA slot. I don't technically need a remake since I still have a DSLite and my old GBA SP, but um... I'd still buy it if it came out. Third gen was my favourite even if most people don't like it all that much, and having it run with the updated battle mechanics and all that would be cool.

I'd bet for something on the 3DS.
The order of battle seems to be three main games and two remakes per generation and console, and pumping out a set of RSE remakes for the DS now would be silly.

And ignoring the fact that third gen pokemon can be transferred, we've already got the RSE legendaries in HG/SS and DPP, so there's little reason to do it for that.

What a rather serious... no wait, that's not the right word, scratch that.

A topic with the chronological order of the Pokemon universe? My goodness. I was so surprised with the first post I couldn't think of anything... serious to say.
