if they would of kept the art like it was in the first trailer, it would of been a win.

this 3d'ish style is just meh....but overall, nice series.

I must say, the animation was awful.
the characters are pretty cool, but they were drawn unproportional.
Dio looks very weird to me, skinny robot?!
It looks like Iron Man parody in hollywood's Disaster Movie.

sucks!

Yeah, art sucks. i thought the Dio looked ten time better than the original. Normally i ignore art but... i got used to a few types but this is harder to bear with than i thought.

Pace was too fast, things made no sense, and scenes cut off randomly. They were having a conversation, but then all of a sudden they were exiting the helicopter.

Eh bit of let down.. I want the awesomesauce art style we were shown in the first trailer.. Come on Madhouse! You can do better than that..

I really hope the captain-ish looking villian from that trailer shows up =3

Tony Stark looks like a Jerk?! No Way! It's not as if they're this is an adaptation of an arrogant, alcoholic arms dealer who has a history of treating his friends poorly.

Oh um wait. Well shit.

A true hero huh?

Anyway it certainly wasn't anything special but it wasn't completely unwatchable. I reserve my judgment after watching more episodes. Madhouse tried a little too hard to make the artwork more westernize. I don't know if that is actually better. Didn't feel like it considering the stupid faces we were seeing at times.

It's not bad but it's not groundbreaking either. It's mostly okay. Gonna stick around for this. And if the enemy is Zodiac, then we'll get one enemy per episode considering this is 12 episodes. Hope the story picks up to support the "enemy of the week" format that may happen here.

Lol. Can you spell unpleasable fanbase? It was perfectly fine. It was an ironman animated series. It seems to take place farther in the timeline than usual considering his retirement and his character has been adjusted accordingly. I suppose he mellowed out a bit with age. The art looks great and honestly I feel it's a step up from the original trailer.

All in all it's about what you'd expect from a japanese interpretation of ironman. They kept the basic elements, changed some of the smaller details to japanisize it, and then they got a bit experimental with the animation. No surprises, just the sales pitch that brought us here in the first place.

It seems decent and I'll follow it because it's not everyday you see an anime based on a western superhero. I agree with Frosti on not understanding why he wants to retire.. it seems odd since I think the Tony Stark character would like that attention for as long as possible. I dunno though.

Since my only experience with Iron Man is the movies I kept forgetting this was a different canon, haha.

I assume he wants to retire because his age is catching up with him and it's time to call it quits. Let's face it. Tony Stark was never a Batman type, devoted to the war against crime/evil/whatever. If he's at a point where every time he puts on that suit and fights off the crimson dynamo he throws his back out for a week then he's done.

Reasonably speaking he was never an athlete, and he doesn't treat his body well in more ways than one. By late forties early fifties he probably feels his age and more. A fifty year old Tony Stark has no business in that iron man suit.

Pretty much agree with what you said. I thought the majority people of MAL would be loving this but I guess not o.O

I'm actually really enjoying it, I thought this would be my low priority anime but I found it quite enjoyable. It also had a nice cliff hanger at the end too.

I love this just because of the fact that I'm watching Iron Man. Hell yes.

The pace was a bit weird and those big noses are distracting, but the soundtrack is nice and the voices are as well. I knew Fujiwara Keiji would make a great Tony Stark. Of course there's also the CGI. It's funny how the suits don't get even one scratch :P Overall this episode really wasn't that bad. I'm interested in seeing how this turns out, as the first series in this Marvel/Madhouse collaboration.

I gona rage

First of all, the trailer was 10 times better that the anime itself, they show in the trailer a animated NO 3D iron man, and the serie have a 3d iron man, Totaly crap

The art in general was horrible, the animation of iron man was horrible, Watched the first half of the chapter and the plot was completely predictable

Plz, look at the trailer then the anime again, you gona understand what i say

For being from stan lee , and show us this crap anime, i´m totaly disapointed

Um maybe you should have expected less. If historical record is any indication a show can't be adapted in a new nation without some degree of bastardization. We did it to Dragonball twice and countless other shows. Guess what? The Japanese do it too. It's not that everything Japan does is so awesome and our pitiful film producers can't handle a product of that quality. It's just something about the conversion process. Shit gets lost in translation. Once all is said and done this came out remarkable well by comparison to other similar ventures.

It's Japan taking their own take on an American property. On the other hand, are you going to say that America taking on a Japanese property does it any better? (Dragonball Evolution)

And what the hell you bashing Stan Lee for? You know he's not putting his input in for this show? He just okayed it for Madhouse to make an anime version of Iron Man. You think Stan Lee is in Japan speaking Japanese to the guys at Madhouse? No, he's at the New York Comic Con. Just saw him there not that long ago.

It was a good episode to begin with and the battle scenes were quite enjoyable to watch. There were quite a few similarities with HoTD in terms of overall style, like the background, but the CGs made a big difference there. :)

Stan lee was there all the time supervising all the work, is part his fault to let the show looks so cheap and crap

I`be following stan lee work`s for ages, trying to "Like" all he`s work from superheroes, and he came with this?, is totaly unaceptable, even the crap movie Hulk was better that the iron man anime...

Wow more amazed by the amount of people freaking out than anything else. Of course Iron Man was hardly the superhoero I followed the most in the past so I'm just curious what they will end up doing with this series.

Thought it was a solid first episode. Plot doesn't seem crazy and should get some solid fights along the way. Will probably see both humanoid mechs and the more 'creative' types like the one that showed up near the end :).

Lol. This has become a shockingly common complaint. As far as I can tell tony stark looks like tony stark in cg. At some point it might be worth my while to put together a comparison shot just so we can decide with them side by side.

It also surprises me how many people seem to be watching ironman for the hot chicks. I should reread some of my comics to try and figure out when exactly this became a marketable feature. May I also add "Sweet crap it's like no one here has ever tried to wrap their dick around a new visual stylistic!"

Well whatever. Enough people agree so clearly I should not have walked into the iron man anime expecting animation that differed from 90's tv series or whatever the heck we're comparing it to.

Seems like this thread is full of angry 14 year olds who only know Iron Man from the movies.

I thought this was ok. The character design is a little bad with the weird shininess that Madhouse uses for it's second/third tier shows. Tony's voice isn't how I imagined it to be in Japanese, which is weird since the guy who I think is perfect for the part is doing it. Maybe it's the dialogue? Anyways, I'm with belatkuro on the 12 episodes/zodiac of the day format. It should be serviceable, but since I hate Tony Stark's personality in general, I wonder if I'll like it in the long run.

And for the record, Stan Lee hasn't been apart of the day-to-day decision making at Marvel for a very, very long time.

Although i didn't find the episode to be anything spectacular, i have to say that this comment is soooo true.
I couldn't stop laughing how everyone had in their minds that it must be like the movie. The movie isn't the original Iron Man ether. The comics are. And considering this is animation it would have made more sense to compare it with the comic instead of the movie. All this movie comparison is ridiculous.

Is there some kind of quote from the creators saying this is based on the comic version and not the movie version of iron man, because I see alot of visual similarities with the movie version.

Iron Man Trivia

Here are some trivia comparing the early Iron man cartoon of the 60's to today's Iron man the anime:

-Before Col. Rodney Rhodes, Tony Stark's sidekick is an ex-boxer name Buckley who also double as his chauffeur.
-Instead of a miniature arc generator in Tony's chest, his chest has a metal breast plate.
-The early Iron Man cartoon, Tony's armor was pack in a suitcase which he has to find a secluded place to put it on-manually that is, instead of having Jarvis to automatically help him put it on.
-The early Iron man cartoon, Tony Stark need to get himself charge every once a while or otherwise he'll die, compared that to today's Iron man were the arc generator in his chest keeps him alive.
-From the early Iron man cartoon to the Iron man animated movie, Tony Stark usually have different kinds of armor for different environment usage.
-The Arc Generation was never mentioned in the early Iron man cartoon.
