lol @ those who skip work/school for anime

like seriously, if your going to skip, then do something that's at least worth mentioning to make up for skipping

"I skipped school to flirt with girls/ or I skipped work because I was too tired from the sex last night" not "I skipped school/work so I could finish a full season of Naruto"(or whatever you were watching)

Lame is Lame

even the MMO'ers at least did something(like "I fragged 2 shitty gnomes who got lost at Kalimdor")

Many times. Not work. I never skipped work, but school, quite a bit.

I had a lot of trouble sleeping in high school and I still do really, but it made it rough to wake up in time to go to school. I'd often fall asleep at 5am and have to be awake at 7am. It just didn't fit together very good. So often times I'd just sleep in, skip school, wake up and watch anime, maybe go to school the next day depending on the week. If we had a lot of homework, I'd go. If we didn't, I just stayed home. I missed A LOT of school in high school. Not just to sit home and watch anime (that didn't help any), but because I didn't really need to go. I still got A's in B's in all my classes so actually attending wasn't necessary.

I hate this kind of logic. I mean what the hell makes you think you shouldn't go, just because you're naturally intelligent?

I've never stayed off school, college, or work to do something like watch TV, or for any other reason apart from being ill or on holiday.

I mean, of course school gets some people down, maybe they hate it and it affects them in a serious way psychologically, then maybe i will accept their excuse for not attending. But come off it... 'i still got A's and B's so it doesn't matter'

You should of got all A's...

I could and should have tried harder in school. I'll be the first to admit that. I just never liked going to school. Especially my school. I live in a small town where most of the teachers really don't care, and the few that do, hardly make a dent. Most of the teachers really didn't teach. Their method was, "here's the worksheet and book, worksheet is due tomorrow." or "Read this book, write a report, and turn it in tomorrow." So I didn't learn much while being in school. I took it upon myself to learn the subjects I needed to at home through studying. Granted, a lot of the time I did just glide by because of natural intelligence. However, some classes (Though not at school) I studied quite hard for (Anatomy & Physiology) to name a couple. So it's not as if I wasn't learning anything, I was just going about it in a unconventional way.

However it's not something I intend to do upon entering University. I actually plan to attend all courses and get the best education possible. I'm much more confident that a University is going to have professors who can actually do a good job of teaching. Not "here's a work sheet, here's a book, I'm going to go sit down and read the paper now."

Then i'm glad to hear that. I wasn't having a go or anything, it just came across like you didn't go simply because you thought you knew everything anyway. Uni is very different to school and the teachers should definitely know what theyre doing. Alot of it will be individual learning though, but that seems like itll suite you.

But yeah, anyone skipping to watch TV in my opinion is extremely sad.

I understand. I should have better stated my situation. Last thing I want to do is come off as a smug know-it-all. I'm far from it and I really do enjoy learning. I just couldn't stand my learning environment so staying home and learning individually through text books and online documents, served me much better.

It's not to say that doing so didn't have negative consequences. I often dealt with threats of truancy and expulsion which go into your transcripts. So unfortunately, in attempting to do better for myself, I caused some damage I wish I could have known about before hand. Assuming I can get into University, I plan to change that all around though and become a model student if possible.

Nope. I've watched anime in class though. But it was kinda awkward since I had to look over my shoulder to make sure a teacher wasn't wondering why I was watching a cartoon with people inside a stip club... Oh Black Lagoon x3

Same here. High school was a joke. I take college much more seriously, since I'm taking classes I want to take, and that it means something to me.

School is for learning so your not a dumbass your whole life. Work is to make money so you can eat and pay bills. You should be responsible enough to not do such things while your at work.

My God, you'd have to be really idiotic to skip work or school to watch anime. I've downloaded and watched anime in school, but that's a different story.

No, I've never skipped work or school for an anime series. I don't see why the hell I would. I have more self-control than that.

Now, anime conventions I'd probably miss school for, but I think the bulk of them (that I care to go to) are in the summer, so... meh.

Anime - gets you nowhere in life(maybe if your damn lucky you could become something in the anime industry because of watching anime but i dont think so.)

school - will get you somewhere in life and also is kinda an insurance you can keep buying/downloading anime/manga in the future.

i think you know my answer.

I voted yes, but now that I think about it, I don't actually remember any specific instance where I skipped school just to watch anime. I've skipped school on the release of WoW TBC back in the day when I was a WoW addict though.

I think it's usually more of the pattern that I don't feel like going to class that day, skip, and then just end up watching anime or lazing around.

Kind of surprised that it seems to be a big deal to skip class for some people here. XD

I never skipped class to watch an anime. Not enough of a reason for me to skip class. I skip class when I don't 'feel' like going to school.

Besides, I don't need to skip class to watch anime...

...I'd just watch it in class anyway.

I'm not going to bother with bullshit statistics, but you're more likely to get a job after going to school than skipping to watch a show. You can't write "I watched Death Note in one sitting!" on a resume and expect the employer to be impressed.

Actually, if we are talking about a career as an anime writer, the chances of getting a job by watching Death Note is higher than by going to school, indefinitely.
