| Although I was already spoiled of the end of this arc (sadly), somehow I managed to escape spoilers for Ace's parents true identities until now. I truly missed being utterly shocked with some revelation in One Piece, wasn't expecting it at all. |
| I had thought there were two forces at play we would still be unsure of. Blackbeard and Dragon. I was thinking perhaps the revolutionary army and Whitebeard may strike and we don't even know what Blackbeard did to shake the world. Yet, this episode showed only one of those is a concern. Ace's father is dead, it was hidden from us through his refusal of talking about his biological dad and him using his mother's name. But, it wasn't Dragon, it was Roger. I think it's implied Ace is guilty of being Roger's son above all else. Roger told Garp, "they can't blame a child whose not born" after all before passing him off to Garp's protection. I went back to when Garp visits Ace in Impel Down and he says he wanted them both to be good marines implying he did raise both of them and further, that you two [kyoudai] became hoodlums. He specifically uses sworn-brothers and not blood brothers, perhaps you always use that word even for blood relations but my understanding of kyoudai is from the yakuza meaning sworn-brothers. This, to me, implied a bond and an unbreakable promise between non blood related individuals with the relationship of brothers so whether or not this is my lack of Japanese coming out- if I listened closer I could have assumed this through my limited knowledge. I suppose that whether or not Roger was Garp's son it's true that Ace is a grandson to him, and one he promised to protect which is why he's so torn up right now. The way Ace walked silently with the klanking of the chains and that dark look on his face was a little hard to watch. I kept wondering what was going on in his head. He was thinking of Luffy and something he once told him, to live free with no regrets. It makes it clear it's not just Shank's who helped Luffy become the man he is today. It was also Ace. Further, Ace showed he's quite selfless himself, worried about Whitebeard and Luffy before himself like Luffy would be like too, so I think he's devastated above all else that he went against his own words. He definitely regrets getting Whitebeard involved with this execution and putting Luffy in so much danger... On top of that the build up was awesome. We got to see the entire world speculating on the events to come. They all know how serious this is. Every navy force together nearly pairing all of the strongest forces of One Piece together like this is so scary. I find it quite amazing that this arc has been built up to so naturally in the background. I think a certain time skip is coming up soon and if I'm right about that I see Marineford as being the climax to the first half of One Piece. We had a million individual and personal adventures but they were about building up the world and the characters to make them all clash like this. If I'm right about that I'm quite shocked that the Straw Hats outside of Luffy aren't involved. Regardless it is awesome writing how it naturally setup such massive events without ever feeling like it was forceful or too much. Oda, you always impress me! P.S. I embarrassingly thought Akainu had no arms last episode because he had his coat on his back. o//o P.S.S. Talk of Shiki breaking out of Impel Down and destroying Marineford. O_O He's one strong force in the world. |

| The new opening's finally here and the song choice as well as the visuals were so bittersweet that it made me feel very sad for Ace and Luffy for having to be in this situation. I really hope that Luffy will be able to save his brother... Just seeing the overwhelming number of Marines with varying degrees of power from remarkable to downright horrifying makes me wonder about how much power is needed to even stand up to these people. The revelation of Ace being the son of Gold Roger was insane! With that in mind, I can only think about how amazed Luffy would be if he found out about this detail from Ace in circumstances that weren't as deadly as this. I also searched more about what his mother did to protect him and if she literally did keep Ace in her womb for 20 months, it definitely wasn't pretty. |

| Finally a new OP on Crunchy Roll!! It’s been “Jungle P” since episode 326, which I’m not even a big fan of. Nice build up episode, but that reveal just confused me to the point that I thought the Navy must be lying. But Ace’s reaction says otherwise. |
