Which do you prefer: Fantasy or Sci-Fi (Science Fiction)? I lean a bit more towards fantasy but I also love Sci-Fi a lot.

I like when a series mixes both. But Sci Fi background arts impress me more.

Well, if I were going by, say, my overall Top 5 (of series) as a sample size, three out of the five are fantasy whereas zero are Sci-Fi (I have multiple and various Sci-Fi titles starting a little further down and just outside of it).

This is a gross generalization, because it can happen with semi-regularity that the reverse is true instead, but generally fantasy can tend to be more emotionally enriching and rewarding whereas Sci-Fi can be more intellectually satisfying and thought-provoking.

Some titles in either can have a more mixed ratio of what they most and best play to and evoke though.

Like everything in life, the answer is that it depends.

I really do like Sci-fi shit but fantasy for some odd reason, when it comes to this medium, has a lot more entertainment and feel good value to me. Even going back to shit like rewatching "Rune Soldier" or even "Scrapped Princess" always puts me a good mood.

The only problem I see, specifically when it comes to the MAL database... To search for any modern fantasy titles tagged as fantasy... one has to thrift through endless Chinese Donghua garbage to actually find actual Japanese Anime (there is simply no way to filter that shit out on MAL by tag).

One of the 1st fantasy titles i was ever exposed to back in the late 80s "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind". But I really didn't get full on in fantasy Anime until being exposed to VHS bootlegs of "Slayers" in the 90s and occasionally experiencing shit like "Ruin Explorers Fam & Ihrie" on formats like Laserdiscs and VCDs later during that decade.

Even the original "Dragon Ball" feels good to rewatch even in the 2020s.

I am a bigger fan of science fiction. Fantasy to a lesser extent.
