I miss A応P a lot, it was nice to see Nyaa's daughter getting older as a good remainder of the time actually passing in the show.

Osomatsu-san, which was known for having extreme first episodes, actually have a softer opening in its 4th season, but it actually makes me even more curious on what are they hiding from me.

The joke seems more refine, more grown-up, just like its cast. For example, this anime know it aired in late night timeslot, so putting an ASMR experience of eating ramen that induce the audience to get hungry in the middle of the night is a very cruel joke. This season try to stand on its own joke rather than relying on parody a popular culture. It's a challenging step and it's also too early to say but I'm glad that at least it's gonna be different.

Talking about season, this summer seem to be the season of comedy sequel. All the heavyweight champions are here. Panty and Stock, Grand Blue Dreaming, and Osomatsu-san.

Unfortunately (at least in my opinion, anyways) it's incredibly obvious this new season is not directed by Yoichi Fujita. The feeling is incredibly different, and quite lacking in absurdity & comedic timing compared to the 3 prior seasons.
The almost total absence of slapstick humor that is customary and paramount to Osomatsu-san is what tipped me off initially (and then I looked it up for confirmation) that the director had changed.
It is difficult to accept such a change, but I will keep an open mind and continue to watch. Simply because I truly love these characters and am still interested in their antics.

A very lame episode to start the season off with. Really not feeling the vibe, it was boring all around.
Worried for the rest of the season but I'll keep watching.

This was very normal to be the first ep, maybe they were just honoring the creator.

rather underwhelming i think, it's a different vibe compared to what im used to from this show
i miss AOP doing the ops :(
i wonder if ichi talking about wanting a cat and kara trying to build a bike are gonna be their goals for the season or end up as just a one off thing?
space part was probably my least favourite of the episode LOL
looking forward to what comes next :D

new op and ed with the horrible 3d models makes me feel insane LMFAOOO

i knew they were going a new direction with the show, they seem to be shifting more into a slice of life with gag comedy aspects rather than Being A Gag Anime. they were kind of in limbo with this in season 3 and i think this is the nail in the coffin. seems like episodes wont be separated into parts and will just be a semi-continuous story through the whole episode, next episode preview made me feel this way.

i think this first episode was this way to set the new tone, it is more grounded and slow than what we’re used to, no fourth wall breaks was surprising to me. i was expecting the first scene to go into “omg!!! we’re late!!! our new season starts today!!!” ahhaha

this season will be very different from what we’re used to, but of course i am gonna stick it out LOL. atp i’m here for nyaa, totoko, and their child HAHA

A slow but fun episode reintroducing everyone we know and love. The sequence with them celebrating tanabata at the end was particularly cozy!

"Only seen the first season, will I be ok watching this?"

I would strongly suggest you watch season 2, and Osomatsu-san The Movie ... not out of some "you missed PLOT!!" reasons (though some things do get introduced), but because (sadly) the "peak" of Osomatsu-san has passed now.

Season 1, season 2, and Osomatsu-san The Movie (the first movie) - especially the movie - are the best it gets. I wish I could recommend The Movie on its own, but I feel like it doesn't have anywhere near the same impact unless you watch the first two seasons before it. It's a familiarity thing, so then The Movie has more of an impact when you watch it. The Movie is fantastic. I'd say it's nearly perfect. They really went all-out with it (writing and art) and that's also why it's extremely jarring to see the corners cut now.

I don't see it talked about enough here, but starting with Season 3, they changed the character designer. You might think that may mean he's only in charge of upcoming characters' designs, but unfortunately no, he's the guy in charge of all the model sheets from then on. He's a good animator (he's been around since season 1), but his artstyle isn't appealing - especially the way he draws the brothers' faces. From season 3 onward, now there's a weird thing where what's "on-model" (following the new model sheets) looks unpleasant/unappealing, and things that are "off-model" (not following the new model sheets, but more resembling the old model sheets) will actually look much better.

It's not just about the artstyle, either. The animation quality itself noticeably dips (the first episode looks alright, but nowhere near as good as s1 ep1 or s2 ep 2 - and then it doesn't look quite as good as that did again). Season 3 is what I would call "okay" overall - it's not like it's all bad (there are some good skits, though some of those still have awful endings), but it's never going to go back to the quality that was there before. Even joke-wise. It's a strange feeling.

The two movies after that are very disappointing. I could write a whole thing about that, but I'd prefer to make something about it elsewhere.

Season 4 hasn't gone off to a good start, in my opinion. There are some tiny things I like, but I don't know if I'm imagining something good that isn't actually there (I do that sometimes).

My theory is that they're pushing for 6 seasons, all for the gimmick of being able to say they did 6 seasons, actual quality be damned. It's very obvious to me now.

It might be best to stick with season 1, season 2, and finish it off with The Movie. You'd be leaving the series off on a great note.

Having previous seasons's first episode in my mind I was expecting a high energy, hyper and 4th wall breaking first episode. Therefore I was waiting for the punch, the shift, the cat in the bag - but it didn't come. It was a nice SOL episode but it feels weird being the choice for the opening episode of the season. Was really heartwarming and cute seeing nya's daughter a little grown up, but it made me feel sad for the brothers as that means they are 25ish years old but still neets, kinda sad, but brave and interesting decision to make time progress in this type of anime.

This has to be one of the cheapest episodes in terms of seiyuu costs, holy shit.
I was expecting some payoff from the slow burn build up, but it turned that there was no payoff at all, that was the ep.

Dunno, S3 was already pretty weak compared to the first 2, this one doesn't look better.

@Nicoman- Is the 4th season of an anime that relies very heavily on Japanese culture for their slapstick comedy, despite some eps going hard on parodying msm.
Not a big earner in the west due that reason.

@Nicoman- It isn't "forgotten" at all, it's a matter of where you're looking on the internet. Just because people who are watching it don't comment/aren't people who are active on MAL doesn't mean "very few people watch it" (I rarely ever post on MAL, I just use my account as a list)!

I am absolutely all for DA PUMP getting more recognition, so the OP is already great to me. I liked AOP doing the openings, but DA PUMP is one of my favorite J-Pop groups so I'm immediately biased towards them haha. Super excited to watch this ep though!

First off: The CGI models for the OP and EP look weeeeeird. I Do Not Like Them.
Anyways, a very mellow summer vibes episode. very Slow but I Kinda like when Osomatsu takes things slow. Had enough humor to keep me interest.

Okay, so… the first episode was something, alright. I really love both the fandom and the anime itself, but this season started off kind of lame. It didn’t really make me laugh—just a few small giggles here and there. It felt oddly quiet.

And OMG, what was that opening and ending??? Don’t get me wrong, the song itself is nice, but the visuals…? They honestly look fanmade. And not in a good way. I’ve seen fanmade MMD Osomatsu-san models that look way better than the ones they used in the OP and ED.

Even though the OP song is kind of upbeat, the whole thing just felt flat. Like, it didn’t give off much of a vibe at all. And the ending? It actually feels kind of sad. Makes me think this might be the final season or something...

The only thing that makes me happy is that the characters still look the same and not like they do in the official artwork. (Still, S1 and S2 art style is top tier)

@Fantomu-1 You are aware this is a 4th season, aren't you? Really don't recommend starting here even if it seems like an episodic slice-of-life comedy. You'd miss a lot of context and background story for all the characters and your understanding of jokes or even who is who would be limited. If you enjoyed it enough, better start with season 1, which is actually much better than later seasons. And it introduces everything you need to know so you wouldn't be having such simple questions.
