I never do it unironically. I've watched anime sped up for the memes.

There are absolutely people who do this, though I’m not one of them. I actually really enjoy watching anime, so I don’t think of it as a chore to get over with as soon as possible.

As much as I would like to get through anime quickly, watching it at 2x speed won't cut it for me, especially if I can't hear the audio. I might try it once in awhile if I can listen to the sped-up audio, but for the most part I have no intention.

i do it all the time

i usually watch stuff at 1.5-2x speed but speeding it up to 4x is pretty common for me if whatever i'm watching is getting boring

i didn't used to do this years ago, but self-isolation has affected my attention span it seems

I watch most anime sped-up. Anywhere between 1.2x and 4x speed. Sometimes I go as high as 8x (above that the MPV player doesn't play sound anymore) if I'm watching some absolute dogshit 1/10 or 2/10 show, like shit that was made in the 1960s or shit made for literal toddlers.

Life is too short to watch shows "legit" if I'm not loving them, and I hate dropping stuff (I suffer from completionist mindset) so watching them at higher speeds is the only reasonable solution.

I usually watch the first 1-2 episodes at normal speed, then increase it if I feel like it's not really worth my time. I only watch whole shows at 1.0x speed if I really like them.

The speed rate depends on many factors:
- how fast the characters are talking (in some anime they talk so slowly that I cannot stand watching it at 1.0x speed)
- how complex the sentences are
- how much I like the show

Right now re-watching Bakuman at x2.2 speed.

Thank you for all the replies i enjoy seeing other peoples views on this. I wanna clarify for me if im not enjoying an anime i wont finish it most the time cuz idk its js not worth it so thats not why i speed it up and normally i dont its just sometimes i struggle to finish things even if i enjoy it and i find speeding it up helps a bit cuz i get distracted alot and find it hard to start things back up if i stop them no matter how much i like them, thats my personal reason for using 2x sometimes. If it has an actual story i usually dont speed it up but if its some comedy slice of life i sometimes do.

If you watch in 2x you didn't watch it. Literally the only justifiable case would be some of the horrifically paced older battle shonen like One Piece, and even then just go read the manga.

Unless its a rewatch or want to see how it works the speed at slow or faster at certain scenes just for fun to watch it normally later, you're not a true Anime fan if you watch Anime doing that. It's like making fun of people who watch the Anime at the pace it was created and to the creators since its assumed you don't care about what are you watching. It's like watching dubbed Anime and pretend you know know what the author and the anime creators want to show, worse if you are "watching" the dub in the background as some supposed veteran Anime fans claim to do, seriously that's so stupid. Skipping scenes and dialogue is also the same.

It's like faking your list if you either watching Anime at a pace not intended by the creators, watching dub or even skipping scenes and dialogue. There's no justifiable case.

You're not a true anime fan if you don't rewind 2 seconds back each time you blink. You don't wanna miss seeing those important frames when you blink, do you?

@Nurguburu i agree with most of that but how can you compare skipping scenes to watching in dub ๐Ÿ˜ญ. Or do you just mean that for the

As someone who has re-watched Eikoku Koi Monogatari Emma in 2x in order to make the Every difference between the manga and the anime. thread: I can't imagine someone doing this without hating themselves, and this practice should be treated the same way we treat the practice of kicking puppies.

2x Speed? Lmao such rookie numbers. Real men watch at light speed and nah you don't need a quantum computer to achieve these speeds. All you gotta do is, find a show you want to watch and before even seeying 1 second of the first episode, just mark it as completed on your list.

You're free to watch anime however you want, but I'd like to suggest another way, which is leaving an anime, even one that you enjoy, unfinished.

Personally, the idea of quickly slogging through an anime (that I enjoy) is more annoying and unpleasant than just leaving it behind.

I did it with some titles which were highly slow pace [Tsuki ga Kirei for ex.] or shows which are boring to me.

Ah and also I watch on 1.5 speed which is my deffault speed for anime, movies, live action, youtube and so on.

I do if I'm watching something raw, as I'm not going to understand the language anyway.
Or if it's a dubbed kid's anime, as their much slower paced anyway, 2x speed for one of those is not much different from 1.5 speed on a regular Anime.
Never do it for anything subbed though.

@Nurguburu I agree with you on the speed part halfway. At the same time, with the speed, I do understand if you're trying to finish a show that you really don't care for, but you're already close to finishing it and don't want to waste time trying to watch it because everyone's talking about it, or whatever else. Watching it faster definitely saves some time, but it's not like there's really a right way to watch anime anyway, and also at least the anime is getting more views, I guess. The worst is just when people are doing other things, like on their phones or whatever, and say they're watching it while missing some major stuff without realizing it or even mission minor stuff. That's just so annoying; like, you're not watching it, but once again there's no right way to watch anime, so who am I to judge? But watching it in dub can sometimes give more emotion if you don't know the original language. Whenever I watch anime in dub, I'm like, "What am I missing in sub?" and whenever I watch anime in sub, I'm like, "What am I missing in dub?" I do mainly watch all in sub anyways, but I still have occasions where I watch it in dub because I might be watching it with someone else, or I feel there's a lot of emotion that I might be missing from not actually understanding the language. Like I watched The Case Study of Vanitas in English; gosh, I'm so glad I did because it was so good in English where I could understand it and feel the emotions more. Now I understand I can feel the emotions still in the original language, but still sometimes the language you understand hits different in different anime. And I'm definitely going to rewatch Princess Jellyfish in English this summer; I've been planning that from the moment I tried the show out in both languages but decided on Japanese. I need to hear the good ol' pet names in English when he's talking. Literally love those characters. I don't know, but it's just a far-fetched comparison between watching it sped up vs. dubbed, but at the same time the comparison does make sense when you say, "and pretend you know know what the author and the anime creators want to show" I see where it might take away what they want to show, but at the same time, whatever some people might just not be able to enjoy something in another language or get dizzy reading the subtitles and trying to watch the show or whatever.
