I gave all these eight scores and I rarely see them recommended. That said, one person's (ie. mine) hidden gem is most other peoples' trash so I've never ascribed to the "everyone should watch it" point of view.
13-episode series:
Kageki Shoujo -- More under-watched than underrated. Has a 7.73 score & can't believe only 80k people have this in their list even after 3 years from airing time.
Sasameki Koto -- Why are so many good yuri shows cut off after one cour is beyond me...
1-Hour Movie:
Kaze to Ki no Uta Sanctus: Sei Naru Kana -- The only BL I've ever watched but I was attracted by the art style, setting and period (1880's France). Aired 1987 and only 11k people have seen it or currently watching.
1/2 Hour movies or short OVA's:
Harmonie -- First watch my only beef was the abrupt ending but after a few re-watches I'm actually ok with that now. Pretty amazing 30 mins.
Yuri Seijin Naoko-san (2012) -- Besides the humor the animating was also very good (by Tetsuya Takeuchi).
Hiyokoi -- Hiyori is seriously cute.
Shorts: (Shorts being easy targets for low scores apparently).
Ichigeki Sacchuu Hoihoi-san -- I don't know how many times I've re-watched this when I needed a quick laugh.
Fushigi no Kuni no Miyuki-chan -- There's some risqué bits but I'm sure it's just CLAMP having a bit of fun. Really catchy music in spots, too. I've always loved CLAMP's "leggy" art style.
Cheat rec's: (26 episode series):
Mouretsu Pirates -- With an alternate name of "Miniskirt Pirates" one would expect some ecchi/fanservice slop but this is actually very respectfully(?) done (no upskirt shots even in zero-g), funny, nice music, good chars I was quite taken aback at how good this was. Ok, aside from the bonkers premise (space liners allowing their passengers to get robbed 'cause covered by insurance (as an entertainment event)) but I was too busy enjoying it to go all "realism Nazi" on it. It even won a Seiun Award for Best Media :0
Gokujou Seitokai -- Even crazier premise than ^^ (ultra-rich, ultra powerful student council) with totally over-the-top slapstick humor but the real star of the show was Tamura Yukari's voice acting, not just the female mc but also her sentient puppet companion. Brilliant. Rest of the characters also well voice acted. Bonus for a pretty cool conclusion. OP & ED are also quite catchy.
