What? Slapstick comedy in my "no violence" anime? The nerve!
And goddamn, Ylva out there truly rewriting Vinland Saga's whole power scale after this episode lol.

Now jokes aside, what a heartfelt and comforting way to conclude this season after all the bloodshed and suffering. Thorfinn finally reuniting with his mother after 16 years was touching and seeing him receiving so much support to accomplish his goal truly left me feeling quite warm inside.
Not to mention that montage with young Askeladd gave me the chills. For better or for worse, he sure ended up being another father figure to Thorfinn, huh?

Well... what else can I say? Marvelous adaptation and probably MAPPA's best work till date. Excellent storytelling as well as amazing direction and cinematography. Character development throughout these 24 episodes has been incredible and the same goes for both OST and voice acting. For real, so much love and passion was put into this project I'm honestly moved. Easily of the best this media has offered us in recent years.

9,5/10 -> 9/10 - AOTY contender without a single doubt. Also yeah, Season 2 is definitely superior to Season 1. And by a large margin, I must add.

The humor in this episode felt so out of place considering how serious this season was. Still, I absolutely loved this season. So far, it's definitely AOTY for me.

The only thing I disliked about this episode was Thorfinn's haircut at the end - I liked his rugged, long-haired style a hell of a lot more.
Now he looks like bearless Knut. Coincidence?? :P

Great season, was kinda afraid Mappa would botch it in regards to artstyle but thankfully that stayed pretty much intact.

The content of this arc was more entertaining in the anime than it was in the manga.Kudos to MAPPA.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! This is so real. I can see actual humans in this anime, each with their own lives, hopes, regrets, etc.

The previous episode was perfect and could have been a great ending too. Here the tone strayed a bit into comedy, but I loved seeing a bewildered face of Thorfinn, who was knocked out with one hit from his sister.

The goal for Vinland is set now, Thorfinn looks very handsome and determined.

As a whole, it was a marvellous journey. 10/10

As the manga reader, I'm absolutely amazed. The artwork is very detailed. The animation is stunning. The voice acting and addition of scores also make a huge impact for this anime to be this great. I hope we get the official confirmation for season 3 & 4. I don't care if it takes 3-4 years. As long as they keep this vibe and it's properly produced like season 1 & 2.

I binged the first season in anticipation of this journey, and I'm so bloody glad I did! Thorfinn's journey has truly been a delight to watch and is certainly a highlight of the year, if not more.

Ylva's reaction honestly made all the sense in the world, xD. Thorfinn doubting who exactly Thorfinn really is while looking lost on the edge of the harbour was hilarious. But got to give it to the mother for being able to spot her son and giving him the push to continue what he's found his purpose in life to be. It was nice to see her drawing her own experiences from the past, that really added weight to that scene. Leif-san finally lived up to the promise, can't thank the old man enough for making the whole reunion possible in the first place.

Thorfinn's new look is a bit interesting. On one hand, it's like an homage to his teen look. But then, on the other, it's too similar to Canute's which kind of lessens the impact, imho. Maybe it's to draw some kind of parallel but I'm not feeling it yet.

On a funny note, I wonder if Ylva's the real warrior genius, lmao. It just took her one punch and she already went far and beyond that Viking with 100 attempts.

Compared to the first season, the tone of this part was totally different but it was much needed for the story to progress, and I'm glad the farming arc was just as good as the manga readers were hyping it to be. Another solid 9/10! Really need that S3 announcement. Mappa's been doing God's work for a while now, can we just get one more instance of that here?

They just cut off the sibling talk between Thorfinn and Ylva were she cut his hair, I'm really disappointed, I wanted to see this scene animated so much

Good ending to a great season. Ylva managed to one punch Thorfinn, the man who took 100 punches straight, lol. Mother Helga recognizes her son 100% of course. A mother just knows.
Leif is a real one, he kept that promise no matter what and saw it through.
Thorfinn has fully healed both mentally and emotionally with the family reunion and the unpacking of everything's he's been through, now he can completely focus on the next task with bro Einar. Got a new cut, let's fucking go.

Mappa knocked it out of the park with this one. This was some good ass anime. What the medium is all about.

I'm not familiar with the manga, only with Vinland Saga anime adaptation, but I wouldn't lose my hope to see it adapted, if I were you. Perhaps Season 3 will feature this scene? I think it'd be something really nice to be put in an episode introducing viewers to the newest season. Something like Einar's past, back from the first episode of Season 2.

A nice epilogue-style episode to end off this arc. Masterclass storytelling, it was AOTY from the first episode. Season 1's open ending left me wanting more, but this season's ending felt like it would be a good place to end despite also having an open ending. But it doesn't matter, season 3 is bound to be on the way. As for the farmland arc, not much else to say than what has already been said countless times. This is anime at its finest.

9.7/10

I wonder if the slapstick would have landed better for people if they hadn't excised so much of the humour from the earlier part of the arc?

Anyway, Thorfinn's beating at the hands of Ylva is essential.

This was a perfect ending for the season and from the way the very last scene looked with thorfinns hair cut off and him walking to the boats it seems like we are 100% going to get a third season without a doubt and I feel like spring or summer of next year would be a perfect release date for it. Absolute fucking masterpiece of a show 10/10

kinda crazy it took nearly 50 episodes before the characters from vinland saga to go to vinland
Its gonna take way more than that, since

Isn’t the expedition arc the sailing to Vinland? I haven’t read the manga but I just know a few bits and pieces of the arcs.

Originally, I thought the anime would end during the handshake, but they managed to make the reunion the final.

Nothing else to say, I cherish this series, and with the existence of Vinland Saga's faithful adaption, I have no doubt the seinen genre will see a bright future.

Hopefully a better studio could readapt Berserk or Vagabond.

dude 100% correct.
I would have dropped but I hate dropping.
But yeah it blew hard! The whole feel bad for deranged escaped slave that killed all the guards who weren't doing anything other than protecting the farm. And the feel bad for for female slave who went with insane husband really lost me.

That was a beautiful, long-awaited reunion. I've, we've, been waiting for this moment since Season 1. Thorfinn has finally returned. Although Ylva couldn't believe it (that was hilarious), his mother immediately reognised him.

I don't really remember who Ari is, but I'm guessing he was one of the young men who were so excited to go to war with Thors. Ylva hasn't mellowed with age it seems lmao. Lots of kids too. I'm glad Thorfinn was able to return while everyone in his family was still alive, especially the mother.

Once again, that was really beautiful. We've finally finished (I hope) with all the death and destruction, and a more peaceful path lies before Thorfinn and Einar now.

9/10.

And now, we wait for season 3 if it ever comes.

Also, who was that young man putting a flower on a grave and putting his sword on his belt? Was that a young Askeladd?

A brilliant ending to an excellent season of Vinland Saga. The moment of happiness with Thorfinn and his family was so surreal to see and made the conclusion more wholesome. We get glimpses of new characters same as S1 did, I'm an anime only so I don't know yet. 10/10 No doubt about it.
Thanks for this adaptation Shuhei Yabuta and staff.
