Crunchyroll has/had the genres listed as Romance and Shoujo and that's completely wrong. If there's a hint of ship fuel in the story, though, I'm not mad😅
The main story isn't about romance, though.

Nah he expect confession and kiss, and maybe marriage at beggining. I think this is fine cuz its growing into something amazing which makes it worth 1000 times more and it looks casual and normal. This type of romance is far more worth waiting and u can still see them at earlier episodes. It kill all fun when there is couple from first episode.

It's a slowburn romance, in my opinion. Mitsumi is starting to have interest and Sousuke seems to pay attention to Mitsumi in a different way compared to other girls!

The theme of the show is not focused on romance but a romance can easily fit into it. I personally don't want a confession here. The atmosphere is far more natural to disrupt it.

Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

There is don't chemistry between two main leads, but IMO romance is not necessary, to convey the message of the show.
People need to stop immediately assuming, they having boy and a girl as a protagonist means they'll fall in love.

Yes, I agree. I wouldn't classify it as "romance". It's about a girl starting a new life in a new environment while she confronts the hardship of being a teenager and some feelings that appeared. But it's not just about what she feels with the boy so... no, I don't consider it as "romance".

Actually I was searching a romance anime now and I was surprised that this anime and others have been put under that label when it's not the main focus. Incongruences here and there :S

It’s more of a coming of age story than a romance. The romance elements are part of the “coming of age” tho but don’t mistake that for being a true romance

However, Anime like Tonikawa are either exception or the examples which contradicts it

Ikr xd. Dont get me wrong tonikawa is good but the way they handled first season first episode is kinda lacking. She asked him to marry him after several months, i cant feel romance there that much. Shikimori is yea lacking in every field possible. Well but as long they deliver us good romances. Still better than those empty 2010-2018 age where most of romanced end up " i l... Its nothing" ending sentece where beggining is same as ending nothing happened

Don't think you've read the manga, and as you've not read it you should wait for the anime to be complete before making assumptions about the same. It's not Tonikawa that they'll get married in the first episode and fuck in the next, just be patient.

I do feel like there's some romantic undertones and, honestly, this would be a better romance than most actual romance anime.
