Also a lot of them are "rarepairs" and therefore, extremely self-indulgent. Extremely.) Kondo and Hijikata from Gintama. These two are my EVERYTHING, they're like, one of my favourite ship headcanons ever. I loooove a good boss/right-hand man, ride-or-die type relationship, and as much as the anime is goofy wacky nonsense, I feel like they just make sense to me because Kondo seems whipped for Hijikata, and Hijikata in turn would do anything for Kondo, despite his chief being a grade A dumbass lmao. At least, they make more sense than the most popular ship in the fandom--which to this very day, I totally cannot get behind even though I am usually a double-ikemen enjoyer. I guess the dynamic of KonHiji is more interesting and appealing to me overall. For Bleach, I have a LOT lol. But my OTPs have to be Ichigo/Chad, Byakuya/Renji, Kyouraku/Ukitake, Kensei/Hisagi, Ikkaku/Yumichika, and Ginjou/Tsukishima. I could probably write a 10-page essay on each of them but I'll have mercy and spare you all. I will say, though, because I always get raised eyebrows at ChadIchi...y'all never heard of best friends-to-lovers??? I don't make the content, it's literally right there *furiously waves arms and points at the whole Ichigo saving Chad backstory and them vowing to be by each other's side for the rest of their lives* I CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP!!! Plus the gentle giant x small(er) angry gremlin dynamic is just *chef's kiss*. VegeKaka (Vegeta/Goku) is another one that I really like. Classic tsundere x himbo shenanigans. I think I've read every single SFW doujin of them available at this point lmao. Takeshi and Shingo from Initial D with their whole NO HOMO BRO schtick which I can see through from a mile away. And God forbid we forget Shingo's designated eurobeat track, "Don't Stand So Close to Me," of which I rest my case with this pairing. Kuroko no Basuke had me in a CHOKEHOLD when I first watched it with all the headcanons I came up with, it was literal ship heaven lmao, but the OTP has to be Aomine/Kise. For a long while, I was stuck on Kise/Kasamatsu but then I fell through a rabbit hole of fics with Aomine's past with Kise and I've shamelessly converted to AoKise ever since. +1 for Shinichi/Heiji from Case Closed, they were one of my first BL pairings ever. Only God knows how many nights I spent as a middle schooler/high school freshman watching AMVs and reading fics of them... Finally, Conrad and Yuuri from the MaruMA! series (mostly speaking from the novel, because I ABHOR the manga, and the anime cut out most of the content focusing on them, but I digress.) This last one is somewhat controversial for a lot of people in the fandom, but, God, if it isn't the dearest ship ever to my heart. I don't even ship them in the sense of a couple that much because I feel like that's kinda shallow and it would do a disservice to their profound bond. More like platonic life partners. Their relationship is so beautiful and poetic and pure. Every single thing Conrad has ever uttered to Yuuri is said with genuine affection and he's just completely devoted to the dude. Like, time and time again, Conrad just casually mentions how he would die for Yuuri. I wholeheartedly believe you cannot get more whipped than this. I could go on for HOURS about ConYuu but bottomline is, they are the epitome of a healthy, loving relationship, romantic or otherwise. This ship is also why my standards for IRL men are eternally fucked. Because if he's not like Conrad? I don't want him. |
