It annoys me that people will decide something is good before watching it. This anime has only been out a day and already has twice the votes of Phoenix.
| @Lucifrost Well: 1. It had better advertisement 2. It clearly has a much bigger budget 3. It's on netflix, which has a bigger audience for stuff like this compared to disney+ 4. It has a dub, Phoenix doesn't even have a proper sub, it's CC 5. you average old anime fan thinks monster is a masterpiece, and this is the only other anime by the same guy. and your average manga reader already has one of Urasawa's works in their top 5. 6. The Jojo composer is doing the music 7. The people who have seen it, all are rapidly recommending it, because to a lot of people, me included, pluto is mind blowingly good. I knew this would be good before watching it, because from the staff and teasers I knew the visuals would be great. and frankly, there are times where you can just tell how good a writer is. Monster is imo one of, if not the best written anime I have seen. and having read one chapter of pluto, I knew pluto's writing was the same. I simply could not see a world where pluto is below a 9/10, and to me and seemingly most others it was not. I actually plan to watch Phoenix too. If It had a dub, I might have seen it by now. |

| @APolygons2 I said I'm annoyed. Like Pluto, everyone who has read Phoenix says it's good. Readers had one of Tezuka's manga in their top 5 back when he was alive. Urasawa has not and probably never will achieve Tezuka's mainstream recognition. I'm not the slightest bit surprised by Pluto's hype, however, for the reasons you've said. It's only natural that people will not know to watch another good anime when only Pluto is being talked about. I suppose MAL and ANN will advertise whatever makes them the most money, even if it means losing my trust. You also make a good point with the dub. Though I have yet to hear anyone in real life discussing Pluto, I know some dub watchers who I could recommend it to if I wanted to. I can't even recommend my favorite Astro Boy since the dub sucks. ☹️ |

I think? and this 4 episode thing was just one of the stories, which I guess was not one of the best stories. I think if the whole manga was adapted from start to finish, that would also really help it's popularity, people normally don't care that much about 4 episode shows that come out of nowhere. Don't loose hope though, Sometimes all it takes is one super fan to make a really good youtube video about some show. who knows, maybe the next story they are adapting from the manga, which I think is coming out in a week or two resonates with people so much that it gets popular by the word of mouth. Although without proper advertising, that is sadly pretty rare. |

I think the latest anime is an improvement over the manga, but there's only so much that can be done when adapting "Nostalgia" of all things. I guess they picked it because everything better had already been adapted. https://tezukaosamu.net/en/manga/398.html Next week's movie will the same story as the ONA but with a different ending (the ONA does not follow the manga ending, in case you're wondering). I don't see it becoming any more popular than the ONA unless it gets a wide release outside Japan with an English dub and an Oscar nomination. A pipe dream, I know. The 2004 anime adapts 5 of the 12 arcs, giving it the feel of a complete adaptation. The problem is that some of the arcs have to be badly rushed to fit them into 13 episodes. The 3 80s anime are rushed too, though I personally like the Uchuu-hen adaptation. I can barely believe these all have higher scores than Eden17... 2772 does not count because it is anime original. |

@nwssx Complete 180 for me. I think Pluto's got the most harmless urasawa ending after 20th century.
| @MeMentosMorium funnily enough 20th cb is the only Urasawa ending i find to be legit kind of middling, Billy bat's I'll defend to death as a smart conclusion that sells the theme of the series, Monster is one that leaves alot to think about, Pluto's is a love letter to the source material, 20th Cb just sort of feels like it was going through the motions and ended on a fairly mundane note doesnt deflate it too much though cause its my favorite urasawa work. |

| How much does it contain "philosophical" stuff? I did not dislike Monster - according to my list I gave it 9/10. Might give it only 8 nowadays. It was not bad - but took some time to get good if I remember correctly. I dislike if there is too much talking and stuff like "robot ... robots are like humans?" talk. If it is like "humans are humans and robots are robots and we are going to to a investigation and also talking - for solving the crime" ... then it might be interesting too watch. I strongly disliked stuff like Ghost in the Shell, Lain ... and western movies like Blade Runner. (While western movive Gattaca on the other hand was a masterpiece. Also a lot of interesting stuff and talking. But no robo-human philosphical thing with the chars all still being humans.) |
