▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Interview #261 - @Kii_Ibarra ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ![]() Laika Moonlight "As we stand, on the peak of our passions here, Hand in hand, each reaching to an equal length… None above another– each enlightened unto it, this highest point of truth: That sameness shall be our greatest strength." Interview conducted by: @NextUniverse Reviewed by: @Corrout Kii_Ibarra, tell us about yourself. Well, hi, I'm Laika. That's not my real name, but that's what people call me IRL, so it'll do. When I'm not on MAL, I can usually be found writing novels, playing video games or, well, watching anime and reading manga, lol. How did you choose your username? Oh, boy, that's a long story... Well, MAL's TOS says to not use copyrighted images for PFPs, so I messed around with WaifuLabs until I got an image I thought was somewhat passable and used that as my PFP. The horns in the picture reminded me of an oni's, so I picked the name "Kii" as it's the last syllable of "Ibaraki" (as in the mythical oni Ibaraki-douji who was the basis for my favorite Touhou girl) From my understanding, the kanji for "oni" (鬼) can also be read as "ki", but I didn't know that at the time. If I did, I'd probably be called "Ibara_Oni" right now, LMAO. What is the history of your time on MAL? Well, I've been keeping a personal Word 2007 document listing and ranking every anime I've seen, and manga I've read for pretty much as long as I've been seriously reading manga (I read my first manga before watching my first "anime" anime [by which I mean shows other than Pokémon, Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, Bakugan, etc.]), so MAL just seemed like it'd be a natural progression of that document. I still use that document in order to accommodate animanga that doesn't fit MAL's "standards" (such as Fantasy Kaleidoscope ~the Memories of Phantasm~ or SAO ABRIDGED, for example). Even before that, I did lurk on MAL for about... 2 years, before I joined? So I was no stranger to how things worked around here. XD How did you get into anime and manga? UNDERTALE ...No, seriously. I suppose that definitely needs elaboration? So, Toby Fox, creator of UNDERTALE, has listed the Touhou Project series as one of their main inspirations many times, and the song Battle Against a True Hero is even composed as a pastiche of Touhou's distinct musical style. So, I decided to check out Touhou since I liked UNDERTALE (well, I say that, but my best friend actually checked it out first, and then recommended it to me). After which, I checked out the official Touhou manga. And the presence of youkai and other Japanese folklore and mythology in the series made me curious to seek out more works with those kinds of elements, so here we are ¯_(ツ)_/¯. NextUniverse: That's quite an original way to get into anime. Do you think you would have ever entered the medium or cared for it if you happened to pass by it, if it wasn't for Undertale? Who's to say? It was certainly a strange way to get into animanga, lol. I think I probably would've become an anime fan eventually, what with how many western works these days are anime-inspired! Plus I wouldn't rule out that I could've alternatively discovered it during quarantine or something like that if things had gone differently. Could you recommend to everyone three of your favorite anime and manga? I'd say "just look at my favorites", but I feel that'd probably make for a boring answer For real, though, my number 1 recommendation would be the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series. I myself put it off for the longest time, due to its length, but it's well worth the investment, IMO! Each part is a supernatural action-drama, but each also has a different sub-genre, meaning that it's hard to find a single person who would dislike every part! Part 1 is a gothic horror Part 2 is a comedy Part 3 is a road-trip adventure Part 4 is a slice-of-life murder mystery The Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan OVAs are just pure high-concept horror (and super underrated) Part 5 is a crime thriller and Part 6 is a prison-break story What I'm about to say may be surprising, coming from a JoJo superfan like me, but if you just can't get into parts 1, 2 or whatever, I think skipping to one that's more appealing and coming back to the earlier parts once you're invested in the series lore is perfectly ok (although I do recommend trying not to, of-course, since later parts will inevitably spoil the earlier ones) My second recommendation would be the R.O.D series (R.O.D OVA and R.O.D THE TV) If you've seen Princess Principal (another series I highly recommend, but sadly could not squeeze onto this list), then R.O.D is sorta like that. The OVA is just a somewhat bizarre action movie with moments of 007 parody, but the TV sequel is where the series really shines (and also where it repays your investment for the OVA, which is basically required watching if you want to fully understand the events of THE TV)! If you're a creative - and especially if you're an author, specifically - and have ever felt burnout and/or writer's block, you'll probably find Nenene's struggle deeply relatable (I know I did, anyway). Plus the Paper Sisters are some of the most believable anime siblings I have ever seen. The only criticism I have of the series is the OVA's English dub. Most of the characters are supposed to be British and they have American accents. THE TV fixed that though, plus the lead character (who is 13) was played by an actual child, I believe, which does wonders for immersion. My final anime recommendation is Nichijou: My Ordinary Life. Humor is subjective, and there's basically nothing to Nichijou's plot, so all I can tell you is that, personally, I think Nichijou is the funniest thing I have ever watched (and, yes, that includes the Pickle Rick clip 🤣) Unlike most anime, I can't vouch for the dub, though, since it was still only available in sub when I first watched it. As for manga... despite me getting into manga before anime, I really haven't read a lot ^_^; My top manga recommendation, and the one that started my journey into animanga, would be the Touhou Project series. If you're already familiar with the games, I'd say Ibarakasen: Wild and Horned Hermit is the best one to read. It's a little too reliant on knowledge of the lore and characters, though, so my recommendation for non-Touhou fans would be Forbidden Scrollery. Firstly, and I don't know if this is a popular opinion, or what, but as someone who plays games mostly for the story, the Touhou manga are better than the games. Forbidden Scrollery was also the first Touhou product to be officially released in English, so ZUN (the series's creator) must've thought it was a good jumping-on point for new fans too. The manga stars Kosuzu Motoori, who, (unlike Wild and Horned Hermit's main character Kasen) is naïve to the world of Gensokyo and youkai and "incidents", so if you don't know what any of that means, you're not alone! As such, it is also less reliant on a reader knowing anything about Touhou than the other manga are. Plus, Kosuzu's a bookworm, which I'm sure will be relatable to at least a few people who are choosing to get into Touhou through a manga rather than a video-game XD. My second manga recommendation is Yozakura Quartet. It's still ongoing (although personally, I have a feeling the next volume will be the last, so that may not be true for long), but I find it very unlikely that the ending could possibly ruin it! Your mileage may vary if you're not super into youkai like I am (don't worry, my final recommendation won't be about youkai, I promise), or if you're put off by the blatant fanservice elements, but... If you watched the anime for Yozakura Quartet, I swear the manga is way better, IMO. (I say that as someone who enjoyed the anime, BTW) The anime skipped and rearranged certain arcs, plus the first anime from late 2008 also had an original ending which was... not great, I'd say. But those problems aren't present in the manga! (Plus the manga has way more ecchi if you're into that). Perhaps I'm just biased though, since, along with Touhou, Yozakura Quartet was probably the biggest inspiration for my own youkai-themed story YOUKAI MOKUSHI. My final manga rec is the R.O.D series (READ OR DIE, READ OR DREAM and also R.O.D Rehabilitation, but it doesn't have a translation, so I can't say whether it's good or not) Although the R.O.D anime, manga and light novels were all written by the same person, they have very different stories. READ OR DIE is just simply better than its anime equivalent (R.O.D OVA), IMO, and READ OR DREAM is a way more lighthearted take on the characters seen in R.O.D THE TV Whether you start with the anime or the manga first, I think R.O.D is just good fun. (Although, if you did have to pick just one, I'd go with the anime for R.O.D THE TV alone) Any users you like or dislike and why? Yeah, there are many users I like. I don't want to name anyone though, for fear of seeming like I'm picking favorites, lol ^_^; If we've ever interacted in FGs or profile comments, then it's more-than-likely that I enjoy your company! As for users I dislike, there's only really one, but I'm not gonna name them here either XD. AFAIK, they deleted their account, anyways, so I'd prefer to just forget they even exist, lol. Do you have any hobbies outside of anime and MAL? I do really enjoy writing. And, as you may have guessed, from my earlier mentions of UNDERTALE and Touhou, I am quite a gamer. Outside of UNDERTALE and Touhou, which are both indie titles, most games I play are actually first-party Nintendo titles. I'm also fond of drawing, although I don't think I'm very good at it. And I've recently started getting more interested in fashion, especially the cosplay side of things. How do you feel about how the site is run? Especially in regards to the moderators and admins. I have nothing but respect for the moderators and admins. My main problems with the site are more about the rules when it comes to what is/is not allowed on the site, or how things are labelled and stuff like that Basically, if MyAnimeList includes Chinese and Korean cartoons too, then the favorites category shouldn't be "Favorite Anime", IMO. Likewise, since light novels, Korean comics, Chinese comics and novels are all on the DB, "Favorite Manga" should be labelled "Favorite Books", or something. And the less said about Memories of Phantasm apparently not being "real" anime, the better, IMO. Plus I wish charting your watching progress on desktop was as easy as it is on mobile, and that literally everything else was as easy on mobile as on desktop, but whatcha gonna do? XD. How/when did you first get into JoJo? What were your initial thoughts? Was it "love at first sight"? From @MeanMrMusician Well, one of my friends from high school recommended JoJo to me, actually. Because of that friend, the first anime I ever watched, knowing what "anime" was actually the 2000's Stardust Crusaders OVAs! I didn't finish it at the time, since I couldn't tell what the fuck was going on since they skipped parts 1 and 2, LMAO. Polnareff was my favorite character even back then though, so nice to know my tastes in anime haven't changed that much. Lol But one day, I was just sitting at home with my roommate with nothing to do and we thought "Hey, we've got time to kill. Wanna try the modern JoJo this time?" And, yes, it was basically love at first sight, lol. Dio, The Invader is still my favorite first episode of any anime to this day My initial thoughts were the same as most people's, I'd assume. That is to say, I was wondering when the Stands would show up. X'D And also if the series would stay as "grounded" as Phantom Blood. Spoilers: it didn't That was in early-to-mid 2019, and we got fully caught up with the series about a month before Golden Wind's dub was announced Further elaborating, my initial thoughts for part 2 and beyond were that Joseph was almost immediately more appealing than Jonathan, Stardust Crusaders was way better than the OVA version, Golden Wind's main cast (bar Mista) were weaker than previous seasons' and it was jarring hearing the word "fuck" used so often in STONE OCEAN's dub when the only "fuck" in the entire series prior was in a single Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan episode. Didn't really have initial thoughts for part 4, since I binged the entire season in 2 days, lol. You've said before that "Dio the Invader" is your favorite anime episode of all time. Is that simply because it was the start of JoJo, or is it actually your all-time favorite? From @MeanMrMusician I just thought it covered so much in so little time! From introducing and defining both JoJo and Dio as characters, to showing what made them tick, setting up the tone for the rest of Phantom Blood and introducing the basic premise of act 1 with the inheritance, the poison, the Stone Mask and everything else! This'll probably feel like an odd metaphor, but if A Silent Voice to me felt like it told the entire story of a miniseries in just 2 hours than JoJo episode 1 felt the same to me after just 1 episode. JoJo's mother dies, George owes Dario a favor, JoJo meets his crush, George adopts Dio when Dario dies, Dio sets his plan to become the favorite child and take the inheritance by killing George into action, the Stone Mask briefly shows hints of its power, Dio tries to provoke JoJo by stealing his girlfriend's first kiss and killing his dog, JoJo figures out the plan, to be continued I just don't think any other first episode that I've seen has set up quite so much plot while also (IMO) not feeling like it's too bloated! My favorite anime episode in-general, rather than just first episodes...? That's a trickier question to answer... Some of them include Khnum's "Zenyatta" and Thoth's "Mondatta" (JOJO's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders episode 27), Outing (School-Live! episode 4), A Place Further Than the Universe (A Place Further Than The Universe episode 12), Ripper Dipper ( Princess Principal episode 9) and Pure Play (FLIP FLAPPERS episode 6) If you could sit down and interview Araki (assuming he could speak English), what would you ask/tell him? From @MeanMrMusician Well, firstly, I'd thank him for creating the greatest animanga of all time, as well as that I reference it all the time in my novels. If he was up for it, I'd definitely ask him what my Stand would be and if he could rank all the existing Stands or characters in terms of how much he likes them as the author. I think it would be interesting to see how his preferences would differ from the fandom's. I remember during part 5's run he did a personal top 10 favorite characters list, and put Shigechi (who is very unpopular with fans) on it, lol. Hi, what's up? From @Kuroni_Kuru Hi, Jade. I was just dropping more bad anime that you like! >:) ...But, seriously, I'm fine. Thanks, lol. I have an idea, but I'd like to hear it from you. How did the touhou spam requests start? From @3miL Ah, ok, yeah, that's a pretty funny story, actually. See, Kuroni_Kuru and I have secretly been competing to see who will be the first to get at least one depiction of each individual Touhou character on their profile comments. Been going strong since October of last year XD (As of when I'm writing this, I've only got 47 left to go until I get a "bingo"). Plus, the variety in what kind of images and which characters show up is fun as well. Sorta the same appeal as a gacha game, LMAO. When one of us wins, we're considering trying again but attempting to get fanart of all the Pokémon! ...Haha, I jest. Can you imagine? That'd be too insane, even for me! How did Jojo become your favorite anime and same question for your other faves like Pokemon and Touhou? From @3miL I just really vibed with 'em, I guess? In JoJo's case, it's because I have a real soft spot for action and dramedy series. Plus, unlike most battle-shounens, fights in JoJo rarely come down to just "which character is stronger", which is always a welcome treat in my eyes. With Pokémon, that's basically all on the gameplay and the monsters themselves. Controversial opinion: the writing in the games wasn't even good until Black/White, IMO! Touhou is basically the same, but substitute "monsters" with "youkai" and "Black/White" with "Wild and Horned Hermit.", lol. Pit's likely gonna be my fave character for as long as I'm on the site unless The Doctor from Doctor Who ever appears in an anime/manga. Kid Icarus Uprising is my favorite piece of fiction ever written, after all. If someone were to tell you that "life is better" now (in whatever definition suits you best), would you ever return to college, and why? From @3miL No matter which definition we're using, my answer will always be the same. You couldn't pay me to go back to college, LMAO! I didn't learn anything there and I thought it was a total waste of my time. It was a digital art major, and y'all have seen what I'm like at digital art! When I first heard your username I was reminded of "Crisostomo Ibarra", a character from a well-known historical novel in my country. I'm pretty sure you're not from where I am but it's a weird coincidence since you write novels and all. What are your thoughts about that? From @3miL Ooh, interesting... After looking it up, it seems you're referring to Noli Me Tangere? I can't say I've heard of it, before (although, in general, I'm surprisingly not very "well-read" considering I'm an author). It is certainly an interesting coincidence! I think another user said that the "Ibarra" in my username made them think of some rapper I've never heard of, too? But that's sorta off-topic… How do you fold the toilet paper at home? or do you have the automatic anal cleansing thing they got in Japan? From @3miL Sadly, I do not have a bidet. 😔 But, yeah, I just pull off a few pieces and fold them over each other. PS: The end of the roll faces outward, not inward, on the roll holder. I've never actually met anyone who puts the end facing inward XD. Is Bigfoot real? How is he related to Dosto? From @3miL No, I don't believe in sasquatch. I'll let you decide how that relates to Dosto for yourself. If you weren't ace, how many times would you have gotten laid by now? From @3miL I've been told I'm actually quite physically attractive, so IDK... still probably 0, since I'd still be super introverted and avoid people where possible. XD. What's Obama's last name? and why does he prefer his pizza with pineapples? From @3miL His last name is Snow, and he likes pineapple on pizza because he's part Grass Type 🤣. How do you feel about Elon buying Twitter? Should he also buy MAL? and why is there shit on your bed? Are you friends with Amber? o.O From @3miL Elon Musk bought Twitter? 🤔 Yeah, sure, he can buy MAL too. I think we'd be in good hands if Kagerou Imaizumi bought us out. (Yes, this is a real tweet) I'm guessing you mean Amber Heard? Is that trial still happening? Lol. Proofreader Note: That trial ended. How did you feel when Chris got slapped? Do you think it will start a dangerous kink revolving around slapping? From @3miL As someone who really liked Will Smith, it was a slap in the face, in more ways than one. I hope he and Chris Rock can settle their differences in peace. And I'm sure there are already a few kinks involving slapping. So long as you're only slapping people who are into that, I guess it's fine XD. How many pokemon do you think will be there until the company goes bankrupt? From @3miL At this point, I think it's likely that we'll go extinct before Pokémon ends, lol. I'd say there'll probably be at least 1,500, anyways, by the time that happens. What are some general misconceptions about yourself? From @3miL Hmm... the one I get most often (and also the one that annoys me most) is when people think that my best-friend is my "alternate account", lol. Inline with one of MAL's few(?) unwritten rules, I only have one alt, which is a really barren hentai list (and I mean "REALLY barren", lol). A few people have also asked if certain things on my favorites (usually TheAnimeMan, CDawgVA, Free! Eternal Summer, Wario and/or Felonius Gru) are "meme picks", "trolls" or "ironic" or whatever. They're not. I genuinely like Joey and Connor's content, I think Free! and Despicable Me are way too over-hated and I legit don't know why Wario is surprising to some peeps, considering half of my favorite characters are from video games, lol (over half, if you count Kasen who debuted in a manga spin-off of a video-game series). I also once got someone asking if I hated Madoka Magica just to be a "hipster" or something. JoJo and DEATH NOTE are in my favorites. I think that answers that question. XD All my scores and tags are reflective of my genuine opinions about the anime/manga in question. ...And on that topic, I don't even "hate" Madoka Magica, lol. I think it's passable. I do hate Rebellion and Magia Record though, so that might be where people got that idea from. Do you think I asked too many questions? I want to ask like 20 more lmao (I kid.) From @3miL Hmm... Nah, I think it's fine! I had fun answering 'em all! (Even the ones that might end up cut from the final interview ^_^;) Feel free to ask 20 more questions in the comments of this thread, LMAO. What or who inspired you to become a writer From @pompeo I'm not really sure, TBH. I've wanted to create stories for as long as I can remember. Back when I was a child, I always used to come up with dumb adventures for my plush animals to go on, so I suppose it evolved from there ^u^. Are you a bar soap or shower gel kind of person? :o From @Purpose Definitely shower gel. All my handwashing soaps are gels, too. What music were you into back then and now? Does music inspire your writing? From @Purpose I was never really into music outside of TV theme songs growing up. Nowadays, nearly all the music I listen to is video-game, movie and/or TV soundtracks. Yeah, I think they inspire me. I'm always listening to music while I write, so it must have some effect. ^u^. If you were a fruit, what fruit would it be and why would that fruit suit you best? From @Purpose Hmm... I'm not sure. Maybe a lemon because we're both sour? Haha, I jest That is a tricky question. I don't eat fruit, so I can't really draw parallels to taste and/or texture. Maybe a dragonfruit, because they look cool, lol. Growing up, what is a rule/advice that you believe in and follow up to this day? From @Purpose Ooh, this is an interesting question! My parents did teach me a lot of valuable lessons. Simple things like not being a sore loser, saying "thank you" and "sorry" when appropriate... The one that really stuck with me is that you don't have to forgive someone just because they apologize. I know that probably sounds pretty basic as a teenager or adult, but to a kid like me, that was groundbreaking. Sadly, my developing mind took "don't talk to strangers" to the extreme, and now I have trouble interacting in person with anybody I don't know. Cashiers, waiters, doctors... ^_^; If you have a parent of 2, what would your 2nd child's name be? From @Purpose Morgan. Probably surprising to anyone who doesn't know Fire Emblem how quickly I came to that answer. But, yeah, it'd be "Morgan". ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Do you see yourself winning MAL x Honeyfeed Webnovel Writing Contest! one day? And do you keep planning on writing more Novels each year? (PS - Read and Love them all) From @Coolest1234D (Wow, thanks! I'm glad someone did, lol) I certainly plan to write each year, provided the prompts suit my liking. I mean, I say that, but I'm not thrilled about the prompts this year either, and I'm still entering. XD I think I could win eventually. I just need to wait for a year before I can enter YOUKAI MOKUSHI or something. XD Even then, the competition was tight last year, and I'm sure this year will be no different, so it's still not likely. (stranger things have happened though, I suppose) You've answered a little on this just before, but what pushed you to actually take writing seriously and make novels? The first time I ever pursued writing seriously was during high school. I got the opportunity to meet a director who worked on a few moderately successful indie films and was given the opportunity to present them with a script of my own. So I pulled an all-nighter writing a film script with nothing but pen, paper and my imagination, lol. Looking back, it was definitely more than a little rough, and the movie project fell off once I graduated from HS (we did actually get the first scene completed over the course of a few years), but it did give me my first real taste of writing a story! ^u^ You've made some contributions to the MAL database. What do you think about the database as a whole? I like how expansive the database is, although I wish it would be updated more frequently (several of my submissions are still not approved). I'm also not a fan of the somewhat arbitrary-seeming rules about what doesn't count as an "anime" or "character". For example, the anime Fantasy Kaleidoscope ~the Memories of Phantasm~ has been submitted for approval many times, from what I can tell, and has always been denied. I believe the reason given was that no "industry professionals" worked on it (even though all the music was made by the same band who performed the Komori-san Can't Decline! ending theme). And I can't even fathom why JoJo Stands don't have character pages, lol. And, of course, obscure series (manga especially), also tend to have very few of their characters submitted in general, but I think that's to be expected. But no database is perfect, and MAL's does come closer than many others to perfection, so I think a few blind spots are welcome trade-offs. A more personal gripe I have with the DB is that it prioritizes the Japanese names over the official English ones, which seems kinda odd to me, considering that we in the forums are only allowed to type in English, but whatever. I know that most users prefer using Japanese names, so it makes sense, at least. (To that end, I've tried correcting Watamote's English title here from "WataMote: No Matter How I Look At It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Unpopular!" to the correct "WataMote: No Matter How I Look At It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular!" so many times, and it's never been approved) Do you think the pair of you and Kuroni is something special on FG? I've never really seen Kuroni and I as much of a "pair" on forum games, outside of being best friends. I can certainly think of a few more users who are more of a "pair" or even a "trio" than we are XD. Cream, 3miL and Dosto; Crow_Black and Fario-P, Musician and Ingenate, I think... I suppose I do appear "closer" on the surface to Kuroni than most MAL friends are to each other, since we are best friends IRL too, LMAO. I've seen you use other boards aside FG, what do you think about the discussions there? Well, I'm glad Current Events died, I'll certainly say that much, anyway. 🤣 As several users before me have pointed out, CD is becoming the new CE and I'm not too thrilled by that prospect. There's a time and place for everything, and I don't think an animanga discussion site is the place for many of the topics users are making these days. : Aside from that, I think Creative Corner and Anime Discussion are pretty cozy. And Casual Discussion is pretty fun, whenever people aren't discussing more heavy-handed or sensitive topics. What is cosplaying like for you? Which characters do you like to cosplay as? I'm still relatively new to cosplaying, having only bought my first outfit about... 2 months ago, maybe? I really enjoy it, but, like with any other article of clothing, buying online often means I end up buying a size too small. ^_^; My first "cosplay" was this hoodie based on JoJo's Guido Mista. paired with tiger-print leggings. My first "proper" cosplay outfit was the female UA uniform from My Hero Academia. With a black pantyhose and an Ochaco Uraraka wig (which currently sits atop my rotating fan since I don't have a wig stand, lol). I didn't realize the wig came with a wig cap, so my hair is actually still growing back from shaving it all off to fit in the wig. X'D I miss my long hair, lol. Outside of that, I have outfits based on Saber from Fate/Zero and Tanjiro from Demon Slayer, but since I haven't seen either series, I just bought them to wear casually since they look cool, LMAO (I can't find reference pictures for either of them, but even if I could, I probably couldn't post them on MAL anyways, since they were clearly designed to be "sexy", and the models on the Amazon listing definitely wanted you to be aware of that fact, lol). I also have this kimono styled after Cirno from Touhou. In the future, I want to get a Sekibanki cosplay, since I've always thought I'd be able to pull that off. Now that I've started watching Kaguya-sama, I might borrow Kuroni's Kaguya cosplay some time too... Do you ever think there will be an anime worse than Pop Team Epic? Well, putting aside that I can't separate art from artist, which automatically makes shows like Samurai X and Please Tell Me, Galko-chan! worse in my eyes… In terms of actual enjoyment, I'm sure there are worse anime out there already, that I just haven't seen yet. In terms of anime I have seen, Usagichan de Cue comes very close and it's likely I'd hate that series more than PTE if I actually had the patience to get further than episode 1, lol. (Compared to PTE, which I completed.) Nagatoro-san is another anime I feel I'd hate more than Pop Team Epic if I completed it. Do you see yourself leaving MAL in the future? Anything's possible, but I don't currently have any intention of ever leaving, at least not while the MAL x HF contest is still a yearly affair. 🙂 Is there anything you wish MAL had? Memories of Phantasm on the anime DB, LMAO! No, but seriously, I wish it had a better "block" option. I don't understand why sites like MAL and Discord have it so that blocking a user prevents you from seeing their posts. That seems like a very "out-of-sight, out-of-mind" approach. It should be the other way around; blocked users should be unable to see what you're doing, lol. In recent memory, MAL has been making this question harder and harder to answer. We can now display titles on our lists in dub. We can sort voice actors better. We have better genre tags... Since MAL now has the writing contest with Honeyfeed, and the art contests with whoever it is (I'm sorry, I'm too bad at digital art to take much note of them), I think it'd be cool if they had a "game jam" event at some point, too. Video games are my favorite medium, so more is always welcome to me. Is there something unasked that you would like to talk about? Hmm... did we talk about JoJo yet...? JK, JK. I'm kinda surprised nobody asked about youkai and such, all things considered. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ If you could choose three users you would like to see interviews from, who would they be and why? My first pick would be my best friend @Kuroni_Kuru. Not only is she my best friend, but I know a lot of people get us confused with one another, so hopefully an interview with her would bring to light some of our differences, too. Secondly, I think an interview with @AlexPaulLEWZ would be pretty interesting. As a review mod, an officer here of MAL Interviews and a fellow Touhou fan, I'm sure they'd have a lot of interesting things to share. Thirdly, I'd be interested to see an interview from @NextUniverse. You did a great job with this interview, so perhaps it'd be fun to have the tables turned one day? Well then, that's the end of the interview. Thank you for your time, Kii c: No problem, thank you for having me! :D |

Hmm, the pair of Musician and Ingenate. Really takes me back. I'm not sure why Nate left MAL, but never fear, he's perfectly fine. Wasn't "fuck" said once in Part 5? I'm not sure what you're talking about regarding blocks. I have a few people blocked on here, and I can still see their pages and posts just fine. (I think they can see mine as well; they just can't PM or comment with me.) Anyway, you still have a valid point. Anyway, awesome interview! It was very interesting to read. Keep being awesome! |

XDWasn't "fuck" said once in Part 5? The only other possible pre-STONE OCEAN "fuck" in the dub was the grunt that Chili Pepper makes when The Hand slices him in half MeanMrMusician said: Thanks! You too! :)Anyway, awesome interview! It was very interesting to read. Keep being awesome! |

This was a really really fun interview to proofread, probably my longest yet (with over 450 bbcode instances), but WOW it was a fun read, but one thing is I think you need a filter on your friends they asked some crazy questions. |

@Kii_Ibarra Wow... I forgot to ask something before doing the interview, sorry 😅. However, it has been quite fun and interesting. Oh and by the way my congratulations to @NextUniverse and @Corrout for the work doing this interview. |
