Well, what an ending. By which I mean, I didn't really understand what happened but I'll go along with it. Which is pretty much my entire experience with every arc in this manga.

This reminds me a lot of Liar Game, which I feel is a lot better than this. The "gambles" all too often fall to who can pull out the biggest deus-ex machina out of their asses the fastest and the arcs. Are. So. Fucking. Long. I mean Jesus, even the minor games (anything involving Kaji) get like 20-30 chapters.

Overall, I enjoyed it for what it was but I can't really say it was ground-breaking or made much of an impact on me.

> Says he didn't understand what happened and especially on every arc
> Calls things he doesn't understand deus-ex machine

If you want to criticize then make an effort in understanding what you want to criticize, or else your comment is unwanted and this applies to anything lol

If memory serves, those two are extra chapters not counted in the main chapter count. The chapters with .5 in them are usually the extra chapters.

The start of the manga was entertaining, but it quickly become underwhelming and overly convoluted.

You all need to watch Nami.

It's really hard to tell how I feel about this one.

On one hand most of the games were fun and the characters are great... but that's essentially where the upsides end.

For a realistic setting there are too many 'shonen' elements like power levels, travel time often being a non factor and such.... physical limitations exist only during games and even then they are not always fully logical.

Second biggest downside is how there absolutely 0 thrill in most games - knowing the penalty of the game pretty much means that in most cases the MC can't remotely lose as manga simply can't continue otherwise... this results in pretty much nearly all games which included Baku incredibly boring. On the other hand the unpredictability of most small side games/stories were just perfect.

Third downside is the fight scenes - they just feel... bland? Mostly arbitrary power levels and fights which serve essentially 0 purpose aside of bloating the manga.

Aside of that the final leader game was by far the most boring one. The entire game felt like the whole purpose of it was to make the leader conveniently stay alive despite dying.

The ending was exciting however, feels like the author had a plan for series being longer but ended up doing a summary instead... I feel like he could have at least added a true finale though, one final game. Especially with how bad the final leader game was.
But I guess in current state there is potential for 2nd season if author decides on it. Not only is there the main plot but there is also the entire God Arata plot which was mostly forgotten otherwise.

If someone failed to grasp what actually happened in the end, here is summary:
1)If someone didn't figure it out since it's pretty obscure - Baku lost the 1st leader game on purpose, his gamble was likely on surviving despite losing since he knew about the memory loss thing and he wanted to avoid killing his potential ally. The entire thing is summarized in the bees book.
He likely understood that he did not yet have what it takes to realize everything for the 'Vice' takedown back then. He basically ultimately lacked one of the 4 'qualities' to be leader.
2) Continuing onto actual last chapters:
Marco has revived the leader by continuing CPR - most likely what happened considering he came rushing first.
3) Baku discovered about 'Vices' via Ideal network - it's highly likely that Baku knew about the Vices all along since the beginning and they were likely his main goal the whole time.
4) Baku as a leader easily took down most(probably all just not shown? And ideal was done from get go) of the 7 Vice organizations aside of the trickiest one.
5) Baku pretended to die and previous leader pretended to take over the kagerou again.
It's very likely that heart transplantation was in fact INTENDED by Baku as it was what allowed to use the pretending to die trick which will likely play key role in taking down this 'hardest' Vice who required such an elaborate plan spanning across literally years.

It's a bit sad how despite having some of the best mindgames in this genre and extremely well planned story(especially considering the length) I will have to rate this series kinda average'ish among the titles in the genre. Can't really give this anything higher than 7 despite it being an amazing piece of work if one were to overlook all the downsides mostly unrelated to the core of the genre.

The first 100 or so chapters in this manga were pretty boring, but man was it worth it. Air poker and STL are some of the best animanga arcs ive read. Not like ive read much manga, but I dont think that has anything to do with my claim lol.

Art was meh at first, but it was quickly improved thanks to Toshio's diligence. paneling was top notch (especially in air poker), characters were colorful, and the mind games were insane stuff. Fight scenes were very uninteresting at first but improved during Tower of Karma.

I can see why some things might seem like "deus ex machinas" because of how convoluted the cheating mechanics are, but if you read the Duwang translations, you'd see how much foreshadowing was put into these tactics. The duwang translations include foreshadowing explanations at the end of the chapter. Even if there weren't explanations, they were still slightly foreshadowed by use of paneling. For example, during Sadakuni's glass eye shit (it was weird as hell dont get me wrong), Toshio still put enough effort to give us a close up of Sadakuni's eye before the cheating tactic was found out by Baku.

I kinda find it hard to believe how planned out this story was considering how fucking long this manga is. I was expecting the arcs to be pretty separate from each other, but it felt like one long continuous build up to the STL game. Everything seemed like it served a purpose, even something like the Bulls womb arc served to set up Kyara's fight with Gyeonho (because he killed nameribone, the contractor).

The ending was also kinda odd. It's basically one of those "and the adventure continues" kinda endings which I dont really hate, but its not entirely satisfying either. Nothing felt wrapped up at the end of the day, since the leader was still alive. I felt like the epilogue was building up to something, but the climax was never shown because it didnt need to be? Eh, whatever I guess. It was definitely sad seeing Kaji and Marco end up in such a downhill state though, maybe they'd climb back up after the manga's ending.

There were problems overall but I enjoyed the ride. The last two arcs (along with ToK) are masterpieces IMHO.

In the ending pages you see that Marco and Kaji were faking their decline, along with Baku who faked his death as part of his “Plan A”. It’s implied they had to lay low after Baku faked his death so they could then appear alongside Baku and Hal and help take down the hardest Vice Vehizoma. Which goes along with the Prince and the Bee story where they team up in the end to become the strongest together. You see this on the last couple pages where the three of them are walking towards what seems the final gamble .

Here’s an explanation I found

— For those who were confused by the ending, here's my interpretation:

The last few chapters reveal that all of this entire story (500+ chapters) were part of a greater "gamble" or setup by Baku to take down Vehizoma and the Vices (who are the villains introduced at the end).

The author probably was going for a "and the adventure continues"-type of reveal, and showing that the entire 500+ chapters were actually part of a larger strategy to take down the Vices.

In terms of what's actually happening, my understanding is:

• After Surpassing the Leader, Baku tries to start taking down the Vices (part of his whole "world peace" vision that he talks about at the beginning of the manga)
• Hal is brought back to life by Marco after Surpassing the Leader.
• Baku plays against the West Darfur organization and the Russian-vice organization. He wins against them both, but the new villain "Mr. Gonen" is revealed to be even craftier. He's the one who had a gamble with Baku years ago, and got to transplant his own diseased heart into Baku (resulting in him having a weak constitution and also having to eat kariume as a form of "medicine")
• In this final chapter, Mr. Gonen is revealed and about to have a gamble with Hal in Vegas, who has retaken control of Kakerou. In the background, Marco and Kaji seem to be doing odd jobs, potentially leading readers to think that Baku is dead and they are despondent/depressed.
• However at the end of the final chapter, it's revealed that Baku is still alive. Marco and Kaji were part of a plan by him, and the ending voicever by Eko implies that he's now working with Hal to take down Mr. Gonen and Vehizoma in this gamble.
• The manga ends with him saying it's time for Plan A, implying all of this was part of his larger gamble (perhaps even acquiring the diseased heart).

@Buntaru

Ahh I see, thanks for showing the explanation. Makes the ending a lot clearer to me (or maybe I just lack reading comprehension, dunno).
