and how did I get that info? What sense would it make to adapt only up to 131, leaving 10 chapters out, which is, basically, 4 EPs, at most, of content?

It’s 8 Chapters, and if we follow the presumed Adaptation-speed of the upcoming season as well as Part 1’s, that amounts to at least 5 more episodes.

It’s impossible to do the final episodes of a big dramatic action series justice if your studio is working on 10 different titles throughout the production of said series.

There are leaks of a movie to end the series. Obviously, it's upto you to decide whether you are going to believe in them.

I think it will be worth the wait for the movie. Even if it releases 3or4 months later. Because watching the final episodes as a whole will have a different feel to it. That's the best way to end such a masterpiece.

Well to grab money they can surely do this. The odds are pretty decent if you look at KNY. They released a film and then remade that into 7 eps of series.

Please, there's at least 3 other threads asking the same question. The answer is still the same. WE DO NOT KNOW.

As far as we are all concerned, this part not including the ending is a mere rumor/leak. MAPPA did not confirm me, and I don't think they would.
I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

According to the leaker, Part 2 will cover up to chapter 131. The series could end with a movie, but it's currently just their assumption based on the amount of content that would be left.

No, we'll have more. We just don't know in what form. Movie would be the best as Part 3 would just sound ridiculous.

You are mistaken if you think we are getting a movie only 3 or 4 months after the P2 ends. If we DO get a movie it will be a late 2023 release at the earliest.

Ugh. I’m heavily anticipating an alternative ending in the anime as well as an alternative vol. 34 and I really don’t want to wait that long.

Given the few number of episodes suggested to air, I'm predicting either an additional part/movie or a different ending because there's still so much left for the anime to cover. I can see it ending nicely in the form of a movie if they tidy the messiness of the ending, but no matter what happens I think I'll enjoy it regardless.

Do you actually believe we're getting a different ending? I don't think there's any chance for it and to be frank, I don't really want it. What I want is them to do their best to execute the manga ending better. Vol. 34 is a mess and I'm hoping they could ''rewrite'' it in a way that it still ends the same, following the themes as it does in the manga. Something like the Uprising arc in the anime but not to that extent and rather just certain scenes.

Again, I wouldn’t mind if they went the Persona 5 route and ended the series with a few double length specials instead of a movie. I feel like people might lose interest if they have to wait until late 2023 for the conclusion.

I’d rather want it to be exactly what it was in the manga than a re-worked version of that. Something that bad should either remain bad (I kinda want to hear Kaji’s interpretation of ''that'' scene) or become subtituted by something entirely else imho.

I would also much rather they make improvements to the existing ending instead of completely changing it. Frankly, if I had to pick between a fully unaltered adaptation of the original ending or an alternate ending that essentially regurgitates the AnR theory, I would choose the former.

Oh, ''that'' scene is remaining for sure. Isayama is very proud of that one. Voice acting and OST choice could elevate it greatly. I am still for reworking the current ending since I believe it could turn out great if given a quality adaptation.

A new ending would, IMO, only be acceptable if Isayama wrote it again. Kind of a what if, alternate ending. Otherwise, it's just disrespectful.

Something like ANR but written by Isayama wouldn't be unwelcome. The people behind the current fan project don't realize how inferior their product is in comparison to the real thing they hate.

I feel that AnR, at least the way it's normally interpreted, would fly in the face of the themes that Isayama was trying to convey with the ending. Also, the general attitude of the Jaegerists in the fandom since the manga didn't play out the way they wanted it to has led me to resent the theory.

I’m always stunned by the fact that people believe Isayama is actually proud of that. He and his editor are having too much fun with this. Not a single serious interview was published post-139.

@littlewillie610 The current ending already goes against innumerable amounts of the story’s central themes though.

I don’t mean to stir anything up. Just checking how people on MAL position themselves in regards to the ending.

An alternative ending (in both mediums) is btw only possible if it was Isayama and Kodansha’s original intention to drop a bait ending on us. I’m leaning heavily towards that side, though I’m not an AnR supporter.

The additional profit would be amazing for Kodansha’s money grubbing executives, too.

@littlewillie610 I believe AOT is a story that touches on a lot of themes and spheres of life. I feel like both the current ending and something like ANR could work if done justice, To me, it feels like Isayama didn't wanna stay on one side so he was writing a story that could end in multiple ways. Him choosing one ultimately means the other will be left unexplored and therefore fans may be dissatisfied he chose one approach and not the other.

@MironBiron I do believe he is serious about liking that scene but it should be noted that the scene itself isn't serious at all and I read it as something comedic, at least that page.

I don't think it's executed very well or I don't think Isayama managed to portray what he wanted with it which is why I'm hoping the anime will pad around it a little to have it land better.

The result of people trying to twist something that isn’t meant to work, into something that works.

It’s a deliberately bad ending. Lore isn’t going to stop working and characters aren’t going to act like total idiots because of an alternate timeline.

The 3 timelines theory gives too much credit to 139.

4-5 episodes of tremendous fighting on scales we’ve never seen in attack on titan. Will require a lot of time to animate
