I watched the episode twice and I don't know if shin imagine the content of the letter or if nina really wrote that thing that was seen in the letter.

Shin did not even opened that letter.
Everything we have seen was just his paranoia and survivor guilt making his imagination run wild and expect the worst.

He did open the letter. When he picked up the second one it went to a flashback of when he opened the first one and what was shown is what was on the letter and that led to his breakdown in battle. Everything in the battle was imagined but the reading of the letter was not. He opened up the second one later after the meeting with the general and it showed the drawing of the headless reaper.

haha that will be a good moment to see. Or maybe shin will let Marcel live so he turn into the legion and then they figth again
