| Was...Was that a Pearl Harbor joke? Pearl powder, Tora Tora Tora, and the "sneak attack" on Kawachi, huh. For many reasons, an English dub of Yakitate Japn would be difficult, ranging from the bread jokes involving Japanese wordplay, to the various countries getting represented in ridiculous ways. This particular joke seemed a bit awkward to throw out though, as I'm not exactly sure who the target of this joke is, nor how the joke exactly works. It just seems like a reference made flippantly. This is something I'd expect from The Legend of Koizumi, or some other absurdist black comedy show. It seems out of place in Yakitate Japan. |

| I guess this is my limit. This show started out actually pretty good and got more entertaining on the first episodes, and it was funny and wacky too but I think it was since the Monaco Cup started that it started going waaay too overboard and it's just all over the place. And the fact that I find Pierrot completely unbearable doesn't help either. Too bad cause there are things about this anime that really crack me up (like Kidd, every time he shows up), but oh well... |
