| I honestly haven't come across anything all that similar to films like those in anime. Maybe you would like Genocidal Organ. Or Sky Crawlers. Most military related anime I've seen focus more on the impact of war on ordinary families (Grave of the Fireflies, Barefoot Gen), or it's just space/mech stuff. I'm a fan of Gasaraki, it focuses very much on the psyche of a soldier as well as political motivations for war. You can also try the anime adaptations of Starship Troopers. I didn't really like the OVA, but I haven't tried the films. |
| Try Youjo Senki or Izetta: The Last Witch. Violent Evergarden has some war drama, but it's mostly in her backstory. There are tons of moe war or battle-related shows out there, like Girls und Panzer, Strike Witches, KanColle, Azur Lane, etc. Also a lot of shows where the MC is a soldier (such as Golden Kamuy) but isn't really in a war (although I recommend it). Finding something like an animated Full Metal Jacket...um, yeah that's a tough one. Anything even close is going to have a fantasy twist to it, at least from those I've seen. |
