----------------------------------------
Starting out, we had a great show of guts from Morita. He has already gambled with his life on the line, he has already been ready to die, so after a few panels of hesitation, he decided to risk it all and act. In fact, we didn't even pay much attention to his emotion, he was an uneasy machine, and by working with the old man’s dog; the two of them freed him! It was a pretty cheesy and cool moment, and what followed showed Hidemine Kamui’s competency! The man grabbed a sword and fought his way outside alongside Morita and Saori-’kun’.

I'm not sure if I actually said it, but when Saori was introduced, a part of me wanted to say they "appeared as a female". This rather than stating they were a female with certainty. I'm not sure where this feeling came from, the only crossdresser I know Fukumoto has drawn in the past is quite masculine, but with the feminine appearance and name ‘Saori’ I thought this was a foolish thought. Hell, it very well could still be! But if anything's going to lean into the theory, it would be the way Hidemine is addressing them. In fact, if you want to get really crazy you could posit that Saori is actually the secret 5th son of the Kamui family, they were the one who mentioned the rumour were they not? I'm throwing out the 'Morita is the metaphorical 5th son' theory, Saori as the secret 5th son is my current bet!

Anyways, anyways, anyways… After the introductory scene it was all about laying the perimeters. The yakuza associates of the Kamui family refuse to actually kill Hidemine themselves. They echoed the same sentiment that Morita did with his tree metaphor. No one from the outside can cut down the Kamui family, only the decay within the tree can do so. Family business should be resolved within the family! With this in mind, the yakuza will help the Kamui brothers prepare but will not risk killing the headmaster themselves. They will simply give the brothers cellphones for contact, and three guns! It is up to them to do the dirty work. It is also essential to make it look like a suicide, no shooting him in the back, no shooting him in a way where the truth could be ascertained. As for Morita’s group, Saori stopped them on the best floor for hiding and the three of them, in the dark, have one samurai sword and many hiding places. They must go about escaping but must face three men with guns, and the preparation of an 8 man yakuza group! This is fun, there's enough stipulations to make every move quite thoughtful and I look forward to seeing more. Immediately however, it struck me that Saori and Morita could potentially be taken hostage or killed and by means which are not coherent with suicide. That could lead to complications.

Lastly, Hidemine Kamui has shown some serious guts as I suggested earlier. Whereas his moustache’d son is freaking out and screaming that the yakuza must do what he orders, the old man, well outnumbered and with a single sword, is chuckling and speaking very casually, he is holding it together. It makes me think that he is not all talk, that he is a genuinely strong leader and he wants to make sure the next in line can uphold that legacy! Whether or not you would like to take moral issue with the raising of his children and his high standards, what I see is integrity. And a cute trio!
