Why are Wit Studio works listed as part of Production I.G.'s?

Wit Studio and Production I.G. are owned by the same company but they're separate entities so why is I.G. credited for their works?

Because they serve as producers and assist in production. Look at the credits of attack on titan, both companies appear.

The parent company of both Wit Studio and Production IG is IG Port. Wit Studio was founded and is lead by current Production IG producers.
