Is Thorfinn the best character in Vinland Saga?

To me Thorfinn started out as an OK protagonist but over the course of the series I realized that not only does he get better over time but he is the best protagonist for this kind of series(really reminds me of how Eren Yeager developed) .After re reading Vinland Saga and analyzing all the characters I have really come to appreciate Throfinn's character arc more and more however is he the bets character in the series stacked up against side characters that are written just as beautifully as he is?

I think Askeladd's better, because I've always found him to be harder to figure out.

Thorfinn is one of my fav characters of all time. Askeladd was great, but imo Thorfinn's development makes him my fav character.

He's not my favourite, but I would consider him the best character at this point. He's been through all kinds of development, and he's still developing.

Ah yes, he is like Eren. I've read 63 chapters and I feel he is more like takezo.

yeah true he does feel the same as Takezo. Also both had a farming arc for their development.

Askeladd was my favourite when I first started reading the manga. But I loved Thorfinn's journey and overall character development throughout the story so they're both my favourite in the series!

Thorfinn is the best character in the series for me.

simply because i think he has the most beautiful character arc i've seen in decades and i'm not
talking only about anime/manga

while Askkelad was a masterpiece of a character and there are other characters like Sigurd, Canute, Einar that are good enough for Yukimura to be given an oscar i just love Thorfinn more simply because i could relate with him the most( except the crazy brat who wanted revenge part)

Thorfinn is definitely the most well written character. While Askeladd was also well written, no character in the story came even close to the peak of Thorfinn's character that was during Farmland Saga.

I'm so late for this thread but I wanted to say my opinions. I'm currently reading Vinland Saga and I'm on chapter 110 also I've watched the 1 season and currently watching the 2nd season (only 1 episode remained to be aired in season 2). So I think Thorfinn wasn't that good as a protagonist in the 1st season, he was still better than most of the shonen protagonists as well. His character developed in the Slave Arc and became a better character for me. I think he is one of the best written protagonists ever. 1st season's best character was Askeladd, 2nd season's best character is Thorfinn. My top 3 are:
1. Thorfinn
2. Askeladd
3. Canute
