Maou_heika said: Oh it has (in manga form),it's just that series like Given don't get picked to be animated and consequently all that people see is the rapey stuff. If my memory is correct, the only other animated BL series in recent times that is strictly shonen-ai with a healthy relationship is Doukyuusei. I don't have a fetish for rape and Stockholm syndrome, the characters being gay or sometimes selectively and questionably gay doesn't make it an exception to that rule so overall I dislike shounen-ai and hate yaoi. It would have been quite a different story if the genre had more series like Given and less of rapey stuff like Junjou Romantica but the genre has reached a point where simply having a healthy relationship would be praised even if it's otherwise uninteresting and bland. |

Not interested in it myself, but not exactly having anything against it either. It's just not my cup of tea, but if someonelse likes and enjoys it, that's fine. To each their own, but please don't come to me rambling about how good/bad your latest BL-read/watch was because I can't say anything myself ^_^; |

And I know Ten count will be getting an anime in 2020. I dropped Yuri on Ice 8 episodes in, I felt like strangling all the characters and mentally cringed at every interaction between the main characters. The 2nd yaoi was an absolute horror, sat through all 12 episodes just because it was on crunchyroll; DAKAICHI. To put it simple gay sex and rape then become lovers and more gay sex. Disturbing in every way possible and the characters were horrid. One main character is a tsundere and just loves being sexually assulted by the other dude but at the same time doesn't consent to it and whines. Also the actual name for the yaoi is 'DAKAICHI -I'm being harassed by the sexiest man of the year-' which basically explains the story. Put it simply yaoi is fucking disgusting. Thank you for reminding me that DAKAICHI exists, I intended to watch it awhile ago and forgot, lol. @024 That there is the real gud shit. More niche but still pretty great. |

Yaoi anime is quite horrible but I like doujinshis if they are well done. Shounen ai is mostly a lot more realistic so I like it more. I don't read manga so I don't have an opinion about yaoi manga, but I bet it's much better than anime adaptations. |

I don't have any problem with yaoi. In fact, I find the idea interesting, but not enough for me to watch a show JUST for yaoi. In fact, I won't watch a romance anime if there's JUST romance, period: it needs to have more spice, like Spice and Wolf (get it? SPICE and Spice and Wolf? Fuck me...). From what I've heard, most yaoi anime star a very toxic and manipulative relationship that is glorified, so I don't want to watch those. Although I've heard Killing Stalking is a disturbing thriller that involves romantic Stockholm syndrome, so I'm very curious to read that. If gay relationships in anime, means that they have to be toxic, than I'd rather there be no gay relationships in anime. |

i usually dont like yaoi anime because how... rapey the couples are. but as an lgbt woman myself of course i can enjoy a well written and fully consensual compelling romance, regardless of the gender of the partners involved. doukyuusei is one of my favorite anime films for example. i did have a "fujoshi" phase when i was 13-14 and looking back at it i can say i also dislike the fujoshi fandom very much lmao |

I dont really like the rapey stuff all that much or the ones that just look... weird or wrong in general and prefer the more cultivated shounen-ai categorized stuff. (Junjou, KS, Loveless, HmH) I dropped Yuri on Ice despite it being the really big one? It didnt catch my interest and Katsuki just makes me want to die I really love shit like Banana Fish and No.6 though! The gayness isnt the focus and its a lot more gritter (one being a mafia conspiracy fiasco and the other being post-apocalypse dystopia) but it doesnt like. Ignore the gay? The gay only influences the plot so much. I intend to watch Given and Dokyuusei soon though, aswell as... Shiminonami Tsugure? Is that how you spell it? that manga. And does MDZS have good gay? I might look into that as well if it does then, I just thought the posting was all fanshipping. |

I'm a girl and usually female otakus like myself loves shit like this, but - I haven't seen any yaoi and shonen ai other than maybe, Yuri on Ice. I find them okay, but they're not the type of shows I root for. So I don't have any full opinions on them. Although, I can say things about the yaoi/shonen ai fanbase - aka the fujoshis. I'm a female otaku who loves shows such as Code Geass, Bungou Stray Dogs, Black Butler and Durarara just like any other female otaku. But I don't love those shows just to do yaoi ships like LelouchxSuzaku, DazaixChuuya, CielxSebastian and most irritatingly IzayaxShizuo, but I love the shows because of the characters and how they play out in the story. I would even say the same thing with Yuri on Ice and probably other sports anime I haven't seen yet like Free. As for my thoughts on fujoshis, yeah, they're pretty annoying tbh. |

Personally I'm a little mixed, I've really enjoyed anime with yaoi overtones, like Black Butler and Free! but I get frustrated because I know the characters will never get together. On the other hand, overt yaoi anime typically has very low quality writing and animation, but at least delivers with the gay. If i could find a well made true yaoi then that would be neat. I hear doujins are better, so i ought to check those out |

I like them as long as they don't just fuck, fuck and fuck all the time. Or if they force it too much. I guess I think of yaoi/shounen ai the same way I do about IRL gay stuff. Great as long as it's porn, uninterested otherwise. I used to read various original yaoi doujinshi, but I must admit that in the latest years it's been mostly stuff with shotas, even better if they crossdress. Yes I really like Boku no Pico too. |

honestly haven't found very good ones out of both genres. shounen-ai is generally just queerbaiting 90% of the time, which is boring, but that seems to be changing in more recent shows as LGBT people gain more acceptance and understanding around the world. most yaoi usually has the same generic portrayal of gay men, i.e very feminine and flamboyant, and believe it or not lots of gay men aren't actually like this, so it gets old real quick seeing the same trope being used over and over again. |

I think they're great. I'm completely a sucker for them. I haven't really watched yaoi as much though. I think that there is a common theme in yaoi and shounen ai that I like. There is typically a stronger more dominant character, and a passive character and I enjoy that power play dynamic. A lot of the anime romances I see, besides the few tsundere characters have pretty uninteresting or boring leads. I think another thing is being a male and knowing the typically societal role, these types of anime just defy that so it's just is a guilty pleasure. Man, I'm weird. |

One word: Lube They need to familiarize themselves with lube and how anal sex works. Also, gay people don't just do two things. Sex between two men is different from between a man and a woman. There are other things they do. No excuse not to know the stuff in the age of Google when you draw gay sex for a living. |

I don’t hate it, but it’s definitely not my cup of tea. I’m not a huge romance fan in general, and that doesn’t change with yaoi. But if you like it that’s cool just don’t completely fetishize gay men over it or something. |

I care not for your bourgeois overemphasis on a character's gender. Especially with cartoon characters where a man's gender is often little more than a haircut, or indeed just an informed ability in an infobox. "gender" in these cartoon characters is often as impactful upon the visual design as blood type. |
It is obvious that "obscenity" is not a term capable of exact legal definition; in the practice of the courts, it means "anything that shocks the magistrate". — Bertrand Russell |
