I haven't watched as many in this genre but Im a firm believer than Ashita no Joe is one of the greatest in this genre. Whether its anime, series or movies it is amazing how good this show holds up and even tops the others after 40 or so years.

What do you think? If not list the other manga/shows that you think are better.

If it is so good... why it has just 14k members?

Numbers are power.

Hajime no Ippo looks better... it has the same proposal... Anyway, I never watched Ashita no Joe though.

Not to sound defensive or anything, but popularity is not = quality.

We are opposites in which I haven't yet watched Hijame (trust me I intend to one day) and you haven't seen Joe but as an anime fan I urge you watch Ashita no Joe if you're interested at all, I take it you already are since you're in this forums.

I agree that Ashita no Joe is probably one of the best ones overall, but I feel like Haikyuu might be just as good. Another contender is Slam Dunk but my memory on it is fizzy but I remember enjoying it.

There's also another sports anime that recently caught my eye, Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru, which has a lot of potential, but it only has 2 episodes out so I guess it's time to wait and see.

Don't worry about being lame now, you were always lame anyway!

Well... you are not wrong at all... in the most cases numbers mean quality.. but there are exceptions.

In my experiences, I always get disappointed on anime with low members, usually below 100k, and anime with high members are not excpetions... This is why I'm little bored with animes.

I'm not willing to watch old animes, I never was... there are silly reasons for this... But if you say that it is good, so alright.

IMO in terms of boxings, I think Hajime no Ippo has a good development as a character. In term of sports overall, I think Kuroko no Basket or Hakiyuu can be better.

Believe it or not, but Ashita no Joe is legenday in Japan. When a certain character in the story died, they held a REAL LIFE funeral in Japan. That's how big this anime/manga is over there. However since the TV series was never dubbed and the manga never (officially) translated in English, most people don't know about it in the west.

Well... If a guy with the same name of the anime is telling me it, so what can I do ?? All there is left to me is believe it.

Ippo S1 is my favorite season of a sports anime I watched so far, but in terms of the series as a whole, Joe is my favorite more or less tied with Major.

He visto pocos de este género, pero de los que vi Ashita no joe es el mejor, y sin dudas en cuanto guión, trama, drama, personajes, soundtrack y hasta la animación para la época, es símplemente excelente.
