I wondered why we don't have that kind of poll yet..
(don't kill me cyruz if there is/was already one. :p )

So what music do the anime and manga fans listen to the most?
From looking through clubs and last.fm I noticed that, except the to be expected high percentage of JMusic and some Rock/Pop Music most people listen to some times also other genres are highly represented.
So there are a lot of Metalheads but also some Hip-Hopers, Ska and Electronic Fans, what is not really that much to be expected when you look at the Otaku scene in general (imo).

Most Music represents some opinion, live-style, way of thinking or a feeling, so I think it is quite awesome to see what kind of different music fans gathered here.

But enough of this talk, now we want some numbers and your opinion to your genre or the music you listen to most.
Yes you have to decide for what you listen the most to, and I think it would be great if you write more than just one or two words in your post. :)

Lol Mathes.

I don't have a fave genre. I enjoy a variety of music from j-pop and j-rock, over a few classics, to metalcore and rap/hiphop.

Hmm, no favorite, really. I like to say I have extensive musical tastes, ranging from jpop, jrock, and anime/game OST's, to rap and hiphop, to soul and R&B, to rock. The only genre I maybe don't like is deathmetal. It scares me. ;-;

Oh and I blame Karura for getting me into rap.

I really suck with tags :C. Though according to this thing I am appearently most into Rock / Alternative / Japanese / Indie.

I'll vote Rock, but there are a lot of different genres I like and I can't really name one favorite...
Anything but rap. Rap sucks.

Death Metal is not scary. Black metal is scary. ;-)

For me:
I mostly listen to metal and some hard rock.
Few years ago I was quite into punk rock and such too but not really anymore.
For hard rock bands there is a german band called 'Böhse Onkelz', which still fascinates me a lot after years of listening to it.
For Metal: When I started exploring the genre I listened to a lot of power metal (with bands like Freedom Call, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Gamma Ray, etc.), what I still do now and then. Then I explored Kamelot, which got me a lot into the symphonic and melodic direction of metal and I started to listen to Nightwish again a bit more (which I listened to before already) and similar bands like Epica, Therion, Within Temptation, etc.
Symphonic sounds - well there it is not far to folk so I found the folk metal genre next. First mostly german folk metal (and folk rock too) like Subway to Sally, Schandmaul and In Extremo and after a while other too (Ensiferum, Eluveitie, Vintersorg or Finntroll).
I still was (and am still) into melodic things so then I explored Soilwork - a melodic death metal band, that fascinated me right from the start. And throught that and thanks to karake (a swedish viking in the darkanimeclub irc) as well as last.fm and some other metalheads I explored other Melodeath Bands like Norther, In Flames, Children of Bodom, Mors Principium Est, etc.
That is were I am now - at the moment I mostly listen to power-, melodeath and folk metal bands as well as the older hard rock things.

But I'm mostly open for any kind of harder or melodic music style or bands so dunno where I'm going next. :D

What really got me into music at first was mostly Nightwish, Within Temptation, Rhapsody, Luca Turilli, Evanescence and Helloween... However the only band I still listen to of those are Helloween from time to time, and I even hate Rhapsody/Luca Turilli now.

Got a really mixed taste now, and I usually say I listen to anything that's good when someone asks me.
Though some of my favorite bands are The Killers, My Chemical Romance, Mindless Self Indulgence, Kent, D'espairsRay, The Strokes, KOTOKO & some others...
But really I'm pretty open-minded and open for recommendations. :>
As long as it's not Rap/R&B or anything they play on the radio :/... At least not the Swedish radio stations. They all fail.

Metal and only metal.

I mostly listen to death and black metal, but also progressive and symphonic metal.
My current favourites are: Hypocrisy [death metal], Dimmu Borgir [symphonic black metal], Satyricon [black metal], and Slayer [thrash metal].

Very true.

There's pretty much no music I don't like; danceband (an, as far as I know, exclusively Swedish genre - thank Haruhi for that!) and RnB would be the only things I can't force myself to like, but there's still the occasional song even within those premises I find myself liking. For all my eclecticism, I still prefer rock and metal. It seems the majority* of musical talent in the world was focused there.

*not that there's not massive amounts of talent in other genres.

Probably progressive rock, jazz, or electronic. It's pretty much impossible for me to hate anything jazz, though I'm not a big fan of most jazz fusion. Electronic is important to me as a genre because so many great things have come out of it. I don't even want to imagine where music would be now without electronic. Of course, there are plenty of other genres that are important to music, but electronic is probably the most important to me.

Progressive, then metal (Ranging from Viking, Folk and Troll Metal to Melodic Death), and lastly, FF OST's and various Anime OST's.

I can't say I have a favorite genre, but if I thumbed through my record collection it would be dominantly punk or indie. I have a pretty eclectic taste though, so regardless of genre I just listen to what resonates with me.

Ska. Hard to find much of it unfortunately since it never really caught on with the masses; same with orchestral rock. I can appreciate quality music regardless of genre most of the time though, so I've got a pretty wide mix on my hard drive.

Damn, it's hard for me to decide what my fav genre is. Though I'm similar to Neverender; Progressive Rock/Metal, and Electronic. Of course, before I start listening to SGX, I have to get some drugs. (LOL, Theorys, not all people have to be on drugs to enjoy Electronic)

My electronic addition started when I browsed onto this site via OCRemix; A remixed VG music site. Things continued from there. I plan to start listening to a lot more Metal this year. (starting with Slayer, Soilwork and Nightwish)

I also like Australian Hip-Hop. And my Anime OST collection is starting to grow.

I can listen to most stuff, hell, I'm even up for some country or rap now and then, but mostly metal. The main exception to this is Akira Yamaoka - the Silent Hill soundtracks own all other types of music period. Other than that, just expect me to be listening to a great big mix of metal varieties with some intersplicing of such bands as The Cure and Muse, amongst other things.

At the moment, I've been listening to a lot more hip hop then usual, but I do listen to a variety of different genres.

I don't really label anime soundtracks as Japanese, as a lot of them can fit into other different groups (electronic, instrumental, rock, orchestra etc).

I guess I would hip hop/japanese/electronic/soundtrack though.

Basically, a mix between rock & rap. I think I'm developing an ecletic taste for now. Still, my favourite genre is rap. Favourites are Everlast, Urban Dance Squad, Cypress Hill, Jay-Z, Swollen Members & Fort Minor (Well, FM got me into Hip-Hop).
I'll get a sig... Someday...

I listen to anything that is worth my while, I listen to Heavy Metal, Mainly Black Metal. The thing I dont like about rap is that, It has the same rythm over and over again, I dont blame the rappers, There are lots of talented rappers out there and I do support them.

My Music Timeline.
