A friend of mine who works at Crunchyroll said to expect some long anticipated dub news to come within the next few days, so there's a chance that he was referring to a Psycho Pass 3 dub, though there are many other shows that could qualify as long anticipated.

Thanks for replying! I wanted to ask something about backlog dubs since well Psycho-Pass sadly qualifies for it.
So my question is does CR only work on backlog dubs for anime’s with upcoming seasons or installments? Thats just a rumor I read somewhere. I really hope that is not the case since waiting till Psycho pass season 4 would be an absolute nightmare. If you know whether or not this rumor is true then great. If not well that’s ok

Question. Since Kaiju No 8 is coming out which is produced by Production I.G. Does that in anyway even in the slightest raise the chances for you know Psycho-Pass season 3 getting a dub? You know since they’re both Production I.G works??? lol sorry if it’s a dumb question. This is my 3rd post regarding psycho-pass too. Probably bothering yall by this point. Just wanna experience s3 of my fav anime in English already! 5 installments out of the 6 have Eng dubs. As a fan it’s just tragic…. Anyway any hope would be nice thanks :)

Crunchyroll has announced that they are releasing a few AI produced dubs for older shows as a test, with potential to expand to many more anime depending on how the results turn out. I was kind of expecting something like this after The Verge article last month came out with an interview with the CEO of Crunchyroll who spoke out about the possibility of potentially using AI for subs and dubs in the future.

That being said, I didn't think it would be this soon. On the bright side, it's only being used for a few old shows at the moment, and it's unlikely that it will be used for current anime for at least the next 5 years.

Final Statistics for Winter 2024:
In Winter 2024 there were 35 English Dubs completed, which is the lowest amount per season so far since keeping track from 2021, the previous lowest being Winter 2023 with 42 dubs completed. It's even less than the seasonal average of 40 during the Covid year of 2020. There were 13 Released Dubs and 22 Finished Simuldubs.

There were 2 dubbed films and 33 dubbed shows (only anime titled as a movie on MAL are considered films, the rest I am considering shows). Winter 2024 shows (not films) had the equivalent of about 130 normal length released dubbed episodes and 288 normal length simuldubbed episodes (= 418 episodes).

For those wondering where the monthly stats posts went, I decided to list the monthly stats here instead in a very compressed way.
January 2024 - 5 Released Anime + 18 Simuldubbed Anime = 23 Anime
February 2024 - 6 Released Anime + 1 Simuldubbed Anime = 7 Anime
March 2024 - 2 Released Anime + 3 Simuldubbed Anime = 5 Anime

Just as a side note, I only included entries here that were fully dubbed, meaning that all the episodes in the MAL entry it corresponds to were dubbed. This excludes shows like Boruto: Naruto Next Generations which was dubbed by VIZ Media (273/293), One Piece which was dubbed by Crunchyroll (1061/????), Pokémon Horizons: The Series which was dubbed by The Pokemon Company International (20/??), and The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse which was dubbed by Netflix (11/24).

Additionally, this isn't including theatrically released films that haven't yet been released in physical or digital formats, like THE FIRST SLAM DUNK, Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning, Gurren Lagann The Movie: Childhood's End, Gurren Lagann The Movie: The Lights in the Sky are Stars, and The Boy and the Heron. Lastly, this list doesn't include the many special episodes/OVAs/recap films/etc. that get dubbed. It's just for TV series and movies for the most part. This also doesn't include "adult anime." Remakes and reboots are allowed as well as ONA series and OVA series. There may be a couple of exceptions, but that is the general rule.

This season really underperformed. There's no point in trying to sugarcoat it. On the bright side, at least there were a relatively decent amount of backlogs either released or announced. Hopefully this season is just an outlier and the next 3 seasons showcase larger amounts of dubs.

Just came across this... I know a lot of this thread is about new and upcoming dubs, but seems like the CR/Funi merger has caused a lot of shows to become inacessible . With anime such as Heavy Object, A Certain Magical Index, ARIA: the animation, Black Butler, Dagashi Kashi, Steins;Gate and many others being... totally inacessible now? I think what makes this worse is now that the Funimation website is now gone, with the brand being shutdown and merged with CR, who have yet to re-acquire these shows or haven't put them on their site yet. Idk, just think it's a bit concerning that there's no legal way to watch or rewatch the Steins;Gate dub or Saiki K (which used to be avaliable up until like 2022), just a shame.

Maybe this will change soon but knowing the CR backlog and the upcoming dubs, I doubt these shows will be made accessible again. Funimation shutting down is really heartbreaking.
