Kino no tabi is a good adventure series.
made in the abyss is good.
log horizon is intresting.

Akatsuki no Yona, Now and Then Here and There, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, Haibane Renmei, Wolf's Rain, Vision of Escaflowne, Kekkai Sensen, and Eureka Seven are a few worthwhile series that haven't been mentioned yet.

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi!

I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom:

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.
You should be watching Carole & Tuesday."

Shingeki No Bahamut. Easily one of the most beautiful art styles and I love the world scenario they introduce in the very first episode. Who doesn't like Gods, Demons, and Dragons blowing each other up? :D

Okay, what do you think of Flip Flappers, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita and Ninin ga Shinobuden?

All of those are weird animes, but great at the same time (at least for me)

Hunter x Hunter (2011) is the one you're looking for without a shadow of a doubt. Besides that, Made in Abyss and Magi fits that nicely.

Sword Art Online does it well, but you already know that. You also know Dog Days.
Nasuverse series has good world-building, but isn't very beautiful, because it's urban fantasy.
Danmachi has fine worldbuilding, even if it would not win in a beauty contest.
Mononoke Hime might win in a beauty contest.
Rokka no Yuusha has excellent worldbuildng, and looks pretty good too.
Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu has notable worldbuilding, but it has a bad case of incomplete adaptation that leaves too much questions unanswered. Same can be said for Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou.
I have heard Kino no Tabi is more about worldbuilding than actual adventures.
Last Exile might be quite good if you like the aestetics. I don't.
Tenkuu no Escaflowne is memorable for its fantasy mechas.
Dennou Coil is memorable with its augmented reality.
Scrapped Princess has a very unusual world, but I don't remember it being beautiful.

The answer is always One Piece.
The word elitist is stupid since it's just used by people who can't defend their favorite shows and use it on people who criticize their favorite shows.

I'll add Girls' Last Tour which is currently airing. Two girls travel around in a post-apocalyptic world that is gorgeously rendered by White Fox.

I'll warn you that "not much happens" in this story. It's all about the atmosphere and the chemistry between the two girls, voiced brilliantly by their seiyuu who also obviously have a lot of chemistry as well.
