A fan of the manga and anime series, Hayate no Gotoku, bought 398 copies of the magazine Shounen Sunday. The issue came with a free card from the series' trading card game of the character Sakuya. The number 398 is apparently a play on the character's name, the reason why the fan bought that amount of copies.

To complete his task, he visted 82 different 7-11 convience stores. In each store, he would leave a few copies for others to be able to purchase a copy of the magazine.

Haha... that kind of makes me angry. I just want that person to give me their money and I'll use it for better purposes. Of course, I guess I'm just not that rabid of a fan. :D

I'm kinda wondering what exactly he's going to do now that he has 398 copies. :/

well as far as wasting money goes...he wouldnt spend that much if it didnt mean that much to him. i am sure there are things that people spend money on where as others would kill you for buying them.

if he[truly] realizes that it was a mistake, he wont do it again.

What isn't a waste of money? I suppose donating 100% of your income to starving children in africa, but seriously, if your are financially stable enough to afford doing so what better way to spend your money than on something you like? Money is meant to be spent...

Hmmm, this guy walked around with $1000 cash.
Not to mention he had to carry around all the magazines.
It's a wonder he didn't get mugged.

Crazy guy. It would make more sense if each issue came with a different random limited edition card or something, but 398 of the same exact thing? lol... More power to him though.

Considering how worldwide anime is, he could ebay half the cards and turn a profit. This is really no different than buying game systems as they are released and selling them online. Unless you can import this worldwide with the collector card and all, this is a pretty smart move. Even the news is doing extra advertising for him for those that didn't know this was released but would still have wanted even one copy.
