Selfies seem to be this integrated hard into this generations culture

how often do you take them, that is if you do? I never understood as to why people do it so if you know why yourself, do tell. What are your thoughts of people who take selfies if you don't?

General thoughts?:0

It becomes a "selfie" if you start annoying your friends with it on whatsapp. That's the definition.

I have the habit of stopping and taking a selfie whenever I'm somewhere with a full body mirror.

In my bedroom, in a hotel room, in the bathroom at the Chinese restaurant down the road, in the bathrooms on campus, in a store, etc.

Hate the concept. Always have always will. I just see it as narcissistic. The fact that some phones are marketed as "selfie phones" also pisses me off to no end.

As long as the people taking them don't shove them in my face every chance they get I won't have a problem with them.

It's proof that they "experienced" something. And more importantly they can prove it to other people.

Not my cup of tea, then again I have never liked to have my picture taken.

It's a photo or pic. I wouldn't call it a portrait even though it is one since portrait often implies professional photography.

I don't have a problem with them. Before the whole "selfies" became a thing, I'd either ask strangers to take photos for me, or use a tripod whenever I wanted to take holiday souvenir photos. Selifies are handy in the sense that you decrease the chances of someone running off with your phone/camera (though obviously it won't stop more forceful mugging).

I don't really bother taking them in more mundane situations.. though I am not particularly bothered if others are into that. At worst it's a bit narcissistic, but there are far worse a person can be.

I take them from time to time, but I'm pretty tactful about it, I just take it to share with close family or friends. I don't go shoving my face around everywhere.

There is a narcissistic part to it, of course. When I was in Germany people were taking selfies at a concentration camp.

I think I take a selfie like... only 2 or 3 times a year? Usually because that's how often I get a new haircut which is the reason for the selfie anyway. During those rare moments however, I do take roughly 20-30 shots until I'm satisfied but only post that one "perfect" shot. lol

And I really hate it when people overdo it. I have this one relative who takes multiple selfies nearly everyday and posts ALL of the pictures she takes on Facebook which I think is ridiculous seeing as she looks EXACTLY the same in almost all of them. -_- Unsurprisingly, I unfollowed her just so I'd stop seeing her face every time I get on Facebook.

Technically when someone is confident about anything (their looks in this case) they don't have to show it to others. The others notice by themselves.

Well I enjoy taking selfies and posting them sometimes. It's fine to have confidence and show it to others. People like to post them because they want to be loved, accepted, and want to matter- it's human nature, I don't see anything wrong with that.

Some people go a little bit too overboard with their selfies - had a friend that used to take them practically non-stop when she had spare time and she'd post them on Instagram just to get people to tell her she was pretty, etc. Kind of like she needed constant validation or something.

I take selfies but I also don't post them on public. I post them privately (I'm the only one who can see it) So that, if I'm bored.. I can see what I looked before and compare what I look now.
