Dirty tricks aside, if they want to deliver letters for people who couldn't otherwise afford them, go for it. Just hope they don't die in the process. Next episode looks good.

Filler or not, I enjoyed it. But that's all. I'd like it to go back to the gripping story it presented in the first episodes...

It seems like the 2 teams should trade horses. The Bee's pink horse matches the Pigeons scarves, and the Pigeons horse with sunglasses looks like the one Connor always has. His horse always has sunglasses too...

At the end when the Bee's said "Farewell Letter Pigeons" and the guy said "Not Letter Pigeons! Letter Flies!...Oh..." It reminded me of that one episode of Pokémon where someone, I think it was Cassidy, called Butch by his actual name for a change and didn't get it wrong, and Butch was like "It's not Butch it's Butch! Oh that's what you said..." xD (Because everyone always gets his name wrong)

This episode is the worst episode so far, in my opinion, although The Promised Land and Escape of Love certainly are strong contenders for the title as well. Some of my complaints might be only nitpicks and it's okay if you don't agree.

If I consider the flashback, the trio of the Letter Pigeons appears to aim to run a delivery service free of charge for people who can't afford the stamps for the Letter Bee service. Now that's all nice and sweet. But why didn't they just start doing the work they believed in? They didn't even give so much as an excuse for this question. In other words, what did they have to gain by challenging the Bees?

Nothing. The challenge would have made sense if they had set up a bet so they could use the money to fund their volunteer organization. Or they could have asked for a reward for the winner to obtain their funding. But simply counting on the Bees to run out of work was a terrible idea. I mean, even if they had just done it in order to raise awareness, their free service could have functioned alongside of the Bees.

A street race has pretty much nothing to do with the duties of a Letter Bee. For one, how fast the mail arrives to the receiver is not the first priority, at least most of the time. In general, safety of the delivery personnel, privacy of the sender and reliability of the overall service are supposed to be top priority.

Lloyd gave his permission for this silly race. He even said it would be fun. He let these untrained teenagers participate in a race that involved going outside of town despite knowing very well how deadly the wilderness was for people who had not received sufficient survival training. Then he even says the race is fair and square, but the Bees have two shindan weapons while the Pigeons only have a single traditional firearm. Basically, Lloyd is either naive if he counted on two Bees protecting everyone else, who were for all intents and purposes, unarmed, or evil if he was fine with the Pigeons getting killed during the race.

Now all this I've said so far wouldn't have necessarily made for a bad episode. But all these errors in judgement and contradictions were never addressed, and that was why it ultimately sunk. All that happened at the end of the episode was Lag carried Rose into the finish line, repeating the same lines we've heard a hundred times by now, and then Rose admitted that the job was not something anyone could do. And that was it. Not even close to enough.

Otherwise, the race itself was probably the least boring part, but it just kept jumping from one cliche to another. The horses looked beyond ridiculous, so these scenes weren't even pretty to look at. And the character designs for the Pigeons were super bland. Not to mention the script which sounded even cheesier than usual.

The idea that an episode is a filler should be no excuse. To me, this lack of effort shows how little thought went into this adaptation, and that though the staff may have cared about other episodes of the series, they didn't care about this one, which is a little disheartening.

Guys, not sure why do I even watch this in 2023 but holy shit. This anime never made sense but this episode is a boiling point for me. I agree with everything said in comment #23, but also would like to point out that how the hell do white pigeons(or whatever they are called) expect to SURVIVE the first trip out of the city? If you think for like 1 second the whole world stops making any sense. Do they even have a military or any way to defend their cities from monsters? It feels like the whole fucking world revolves around mailing letters. The best part about this show for me is to point out all the dumb shit.
