Haven't watched anything good in a long time

I thoroughly enjoy anime like akame ga kill, tokyo ghoul, parasyte, seven deadly sins, ao no exorcist, FMA brotherhood, hunter x hunter( killua was a boss), attack on titan, Etc.

basically something with lots of action and a badass main character but with a dark twist ( i realize all the animes i listed dont have that) and some romance.

MUSTS: newish anime ( i hate old art style with the exception of dbz), thick plot that will keep me really wanting to watch the next episode, absolutely no mechas ( i hate them, dunno why)

Probably the reason why you haven't watched good anime in a long time is because you're too picky.
I recommended you to try older anime.

Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Ghost in the Sell probably could satisfy you for good action and more mature theme.
