Angel Beats. Probably the closest I've gotten to crying because of a show.

I'd also like to add Sola, Kanon (2006), and, if you're looking for a "happy" cry then Usagi Drop.

Recently, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso or Your Lie in April, same show english name. Older shows Angel Beats, AnoHana, Clannad & Clannad After Story(don't watch the movie until after Clannad AF, it will spoil it for you), all made me cry like a baby. Golden Time made me sad and laugh well so did the others. The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi also made me cry at the end mainly out of happiness and relief. Air and Kanon had me in tears, but for different reasons; by the way, if you can find both versions of Kanon, then watch the oldest version first. It was good in spite of the dated graphics. After watching the older version, it took me a year or two to watch the updated version, because I thought it would have little to offer. Boy, was I wrong. It was great in its own way. Also, there was more to some parts of the story which I found informative. Also, Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki and Nerawareta Gakuen are both great movies that are somewhat recent that have tearful moments. I have heard about and watch some of the others listed by others, and I agree that you should give them all a try. Be forewarned, Grave of the Fireflies is very sad, heartrendingly sad, maybe even depressing but worth every minute. Go have a good Cry!

I would recommend Anohana to be the first on your list, followed by Clannad After Story (once you finished the first season Clannad). Also recommended is FMA Brotherhood for one particular scene.

toradora it's a love story the show itself doesn't make you cry and it isn't sad but there are episodes that will have you in tears and the OST (lost my pieces) just adds fuel to the fire really worth the watch
